Steam Game not launching at all

I just bought this game off Steam and when I click play in Steam absolutely nothing happens.
I don’t get any errors or anything, literally nothing happens and I have to kill off the process.

Gamelog attached.

Hmm this looks very much like something does not work in loading some files. Have you tried to “verify game cache” on Steam?

Yes I’ve tried it a couple of times.

I grabbed the manual download and then realised that I wasn’t going to get very far without a license key.
The demo did launch fine though.

I also tried deleting it completely and re-downloading on Steam but had no luck with that either.

That is a very peculiar issue then! I wonder why the demo is working :s

One particular thing I’d like to know is your soundcard/headset configuration. My working copy of the game gives me this log (to compare):

[14:33:56] Engine: Loaded texture assets/ui/textures_manual/trash.dds
[14:33:56] Engine: Loaded texture assets/ui/textures_manual/copy.dds
[14:33:57] Lua: Initialising Sound Manager
[14:33:57] Lua: Initialising Music Manager
[14:33:57] Lua: Start Theme

So the place the game hangs is when it tries to initialize sounds, etc.
If you have any headset plugged in, please try to remove it. If you have an external soundcard running, you could try to pull it out to see if it makes any difference.

Cheers!

My headset setup is my headphones plugged into a DAC running off USB (USB2.0 if that’s at all relevant).
I just tried pulling out the DAC and plugging the headset into the monitor (my onboard sound has static so I never use it) and the same result.
Tried no headphones at all and again, same result.

When running the demo your sound worked as you’d expect, I assume?
If you deactivate all but the internal soundcard drivers it still reacts the same way? (Not suggesting that you should run that way, just trying to figure out what the problem might be.)

I’m not the programmer/technician on the team, who right now is out filming the “Race to the Sky” over the weekend and won’t be back until late Monday.
Very sorry you are having this problem, Cas may have a solution to it!

Yep the sound in the demo works perfectly. The tutorials are bloody awesome by the way, teaching me stuff I could never understand properly.

I tried deactivating them all and the same thing happened.

Something I just remembered, I was getting a different error before (I didn’t save it though) and then I noticed that it was saying something along the lines of DisplaySettings.xml was missing. I manually dropped the xml in from the manual download into the steam My Games -> Automation folder and then started getting the current error.

I would suggest removing the XML file you manually added, and troubleshoot the original error. What is in the XML file you added? (and I don’t see any sound settings on my XML file)

In case you think your problem was solved by the inclusion of said file, here is what my working DisplaySettings.xml file looks like.

<?xml version="1.0"?> -<DisplaySettings> <Width>1366</Width> <Height>768</Height> <WindowType>1</WindowType> <SSAO>true</SSAO> <FXAA>true</FXAA> <MULTIPLAYERENGINEGFX>true</MULTIPLAYERENGINEGFX> <ViewportRes>1</ViewportRes> <Language>en_UK</Language> </DisplaySettings>

XML is as below

<DisplaySettings> <Width>1920</Width> <Height>1080</Height> <WindowType>1</WindowType> <SSAO>true</SSAO> <FXAA>true</FXAA> <MULTIPLAYERENGINEGFX>true</MULTIPLAYERENGINEGFX> <ViewportRes>2</ViewportRes> <Language>en_UK</Language> </DisplaySettings>

If this cannot be fixed is it possible for me to swap out my Steam game for a key for the standalone game instead?

I don’t want to be impatient but if it’s simpler to do the above I think it’d be a good solution.

I’ve been having a very similar problem, and I can’t even kill the process nor can I find the gamelog file, wherever that is. :frowning:

Maybe this will help?

Thanks for the assist, 07CobaltGirl. Truth is, though, I couldn’t find anything in any of the log files that conclusively indicated any problem, and the game was working just fine this last Friday.

The only thing that looked suspicious was this:

[quote][18:14:32] Engine: Force deleting asset of type 0, with 1 references (ID: ./assets/meshes/Engine Bay Bounds/Bounds_Arrows.kjc_127, DB: , File: )

And that’s it.

I have the same probleme here :frowning: Steam only say (preparing to launch Automation…) for ever
