[hide=]Truth be told, there’s no car my company makes that can hold a candle to some of the hypercars that are being entered into this round - and boy, they look fantastic by the way - so I decided enter my company’s very best. And in turn, I decided to show it off as best I can.
The Scarlet is a drivers car. It’ll happily compete with other premium sports cars in its price range, but its killer difference is how it drives. How it makes you feel. Sure, this is the most advanced car Erin has ever made. But what matters is that wherever you drive it, however you drive, whatever you do in it, it feels like the best car in the world.
In town, its simple and easy. On a motorway, its quiet and comfortable. On a twisty backroad over the Yorkshire Dales, its as close to perfection as you’ll get. This trim is the X 3.8, the top of the range. The ultimate 2 seater sports car from the company that’s been building and racing them since 1959.
The steering is sharp but not twitchy. It feels dynamic and responsive. It’s hydraulic - none of that electric nonsense - so you feel the wheels properly. The suspension is an advanced active setup with an uncomplicated control system that adapts to the road. Engage X Mode and it firms up to provide an uncompromising and balanced ride that will let you fully experience the brilliance of the engineering behind this car.
The engine is a 3.8l Flat-plane V8. It bellows its way to 9400 rpm and knocks out 523 bhp, and sends all that to the wheels via a 7 Speed DCT box. 0-60 in 4.2 seconds*. Top speed: 209 mph.
All-aluminium construction, 51/49 F/R weight distribution and a well proportioned wheelbase**; this car has been designed to be lightweight and nimble from the ground up. The chassis is, without a doubt, a masterpiece.
On a day-to-day basis, this car is fantastic. Superbly reliable, comfortable even on poorer road surfaces and fairly practical too; in exchange for the lack of rear seats (pointless anyway), you get a proper sized boot. And sure, it’s nothing to write home about, but with an average economy of 21.1 mpg, it’s decently efficient for this sort of car too.
And then just look at it. Classic sports car lines meet sharpened up, clean cut 21st century design. Its a joy to behold from every angle. By no means a beautiful car, but certainly a stunning one.
This is not the fastest car here. But it doesn’t need to be; this is for the refined driver. The one who wants something to blast about in on a Sunday afternoon and then commute through the city on Monday morning. Look no further than the Erin Scarlet X.
*In reality, with the aids of traction control and launch control, this car would have a 0-60 time of sub-3.5 seconds. But, the only way to achieve that realistically in the game currently is via AWD, and including that would kill the spirit of this machine. So instead, it’s 4.2 seconds.
**While this body in particular has a WB of 2.74m, in reality, the Scarlet would be quite a lot smaller, more in the 2.5/2.6m range. Akin to a Jaguar F-Type, Aston Martin Vantage, Mercedes AMG GT etc…
