What a pisstake, and it’s not the only airfield that’s been sold and being replaced by housing developments either.

It’s sad as we keep losing our army bases and training grounds too, it’s all because of this stupid housing crisis that the government are talking about, please excuse my views here but the country is overflowing and there is only one reason behind it…

It’ll be a really big shame if this is all being done by some private contractor, who will no doubt reduce that “30% affordable housing” amount for their own profits. Goodbye old Top Gear test track then I guess. Barely anyone will know it was even there with all those houses on top.

It’s like Brooklands, parts of where the track used to be got developed on meaning we lost another historical land mark in British racing history, no doubt the TGTT will go down in racing history too, it wasn’t just TG that used the track, I remember Renault do something there and it was a stop for the Gumball Rally at one point, they have to at least name the streets in the new developments after the famous corners on the track

We lost Westwood to housing development also. It is a shame that we have to build over so many historic race tracks.

well, it happens, sadly.

Linas Montlhrey is still there, as is Indianapolis. so we still have some preserved.

If this isn’t bad enough, it’s even worse if an actual race track is demolished to make way for a housing development. Oran Park and Amaroo Park were a pair of permanent road courses near Sydney, NSW, both of which hosted ATCC/V8 Supercar rounds for several decades, but urban expansion meant that, eventually, both tracks had to go.

After the closure of Oran Park in 2009, what is now known as the Supercars Championship had to make do with a street circuit in Homebush, which turned out to be such a financial failure that it was removed from the schedule at the end of this season, and will be replaced next year by another street circuit in Newcastle, almost 100 miles away (but it’s better than having two full rounds being held at the same venue, as has happened in the past). Besides, after Eastern Creek was redeveloped as Sydney Motorsport Park in 2012, there was less reason for the Homebush street circuit to be retained on the calendar, especially since the fans didn’t like it very much at all.
