The Scrapyard [IDEA]

@killrob i have a suggestion, i think it’s intresting to have varius type of rocket engine in the game, like the mythbuster rocket car or the thrust SSC, maybe with a dlc :stuck_out_tongue:

I concur, I would love to build this

like this one ?

here ladies and gentlemen is the LVC - daehkcid, a rwd hooligan
a body made out of scrap metal, welded together by people we found sleeping under bridges.
painted with plasti dip in a can. the headlights you see are recycled from a hatchback, and blinker fluid is filled to the top.
the suspension, you are maybe thinking that its pushrod, like every supercar. but no you, you get macpherson strut suspension lifted from a ecobox car
the engine is a 5.9 liter V12, like a proper supercar, the engine block was found on the side of the road, but with few fiat carburettors, pushrod head, cast pistons, and some duct tape. you get a monster that makes 257HP at 5000rpm.
the gearbox, now you expect a dual clutch 7 speed gearbox, but no, you get a 5 speed manual gearbox, from a 90s wagon.
the tyres are conventional ones, bought from a tyre recycling plant, which were used on a lorry.
now you ask yourself, with that much power and a mighty gearbox, you need carbon brakes to stop this beast, but drum breaks will do.
the interior is made out of cardboard and gauges that are not even plugged it. with that comes a cd player, bought from a heroin addict for only 5 bucks

Not exactly, but the end result may be something like that, to build your car for the challenge you must combine parts from a catalog of premade cars.
Where’s this catalog? In my head, in this days i don’t have my first PC so i’m waiting to have it back, but don’t warry, probably thursday, you can have a first peek of it.
In the catalog there will be some supercar, but very old and crappy ones, the majority of the parts and cars itself are family/city cars, the types you most likely found in the junkyard. So, you can bild that car in the final challenge? No, it’s a 2011’s body (if i remember right), but you can build a supercar from '70s with a '90s city car engine.
The last question that might came up in your mind is: Why have you asked for cars in a previus post? To junk it! Now i’m selecting a dozen of cars to crate the product list where you can choose.

Sounds like we’re making rat rods. Count me in!

Hopefully this inspires the devs to include a scrapyard market/amateur garage mode.

ded?

Somewhat

No, luckly i’m still alive, but in this time I have university exams, I’m slowly working on the catalog but I’ve had some delays, when I have something concrete I’ll show you. Excuse me, but now you have to have some patience.

Is it alright if we make some cars to put into the scrapyard. Should help speed things along a bit.

Yes, i’m glad if you send me

Sorry, i can’t do this challenge anymore, there’s too much work to do, i don’t have enough free time to spend on it, if anyone want to host it, i will partecipate. I’m truly sorry, but the university is very time consuming.
Check my new challenge (yes i’m full of idea :stuck_out_tongue:) the TGRG

I would be interested in taking this on if people are interested in competing.

In fairness to me and to make it simpler as it would be my first competition, I would want to set several events the cars will compete in, 1/4 mile race, race over several laps, aesthetics (with vote) as examples. The winner being decided by points from those events.

Are we keen? (I also don’t mind if someone else wants to run it, who may well do a much better job)

I’d be interested in joining.

As before, I would be happy to send a couple of my own cars over to be crappified. I don’t know how F17Francesco planned to do it, but I’m guessing the logical method is to take each of the scrapyard cars and engines and retrim/revariant them in whatever the competition year is with enough negative quality that they perform worse than new.

yeah, i’d be interested aswell, and ya can’t get much more crap than the first 2 generations of communitasia

We should try it at least once, I am very interested in seeing how this would play out.

Well, just as an idea, what I was thinking was, getting people to submit cars that can be found in the scrapyard, then I’ll take parts from them to make a catalog. I’ll fill in any gaps.

Here, I release the catalog and you guys go and try to make good cars out of them, only being allowed to tune certain things. (I.e. like in the first post). The cars you make compete in several events and the overall winner is the champion of the scrap heap.

Only thing I need to work out is how to split up the parts and what to restrict, but, that shouldn’t be hard.

It might turn out it’s too restrictive and just a bit crap, but that’s why we just try one to start.

Thoughts?

If you want to start and make a car that’s cool, aim for “cars you can imagine seeing in a scrapyard”

This is pretty close to my original idea, on monday, when i come back to my home (and i have my first computer) i’ll send you all the submission i had (plus some of my creation).

Makes sense! Honestly, the thing I’d most want in a scrapyard is lots and lots of cars, so I might go through my files and see what’s reasonably up to date and send a bunch of stuff over. (Might be some duplicates with what @F17Francesco has, of course.)

Are you thinking of doing it in the current release build or the open beta? I had a vague impression that that might hit release soon, but I have no sense of time.

I have no idea on that. Honestly, I’d prefer to use the current release build.
