The Speed Ep1 - It's On!

Yellow Fruit Tuning Shop and their craaazy cat-mobile!
This grandpa car got a new look, new threads, and two turbos—just for teh lulz.

John Word - Writer; Lily White - Photographer

A Pingu Helitro—beloved by grandpas across America—is not your typical sighting at drift shows or tuner meetups, yet here we are. We had a chat with the folks behind the build.

So, why a Helitro? “We just liked the look of it” says Jannik Ananas, owner of Yellow Fruit. “We wondered how it’d look going sideways, so when the opportunity came we went for it.” Apparently the donor car originates from Germany, and was sent to Scandinavia for modifications before finally arriving here in L.A.

Two’s company
Bored out to 2.7 liters and fitted with a set of twin-turbos, power is just about tripled from its stock form. “The only thing cooler than a turbo is two turbos, isnt’ it?” 398 horsepower may not be recordbreaking, but being sent to the new 285-wide rear wheels it sure makes for some impressive numbers: 3.4 seconds to 60 and 11.3 down the quarter mile.

With its unmistakable rear wing, front splitter, sealed underbody, wide tires, and a rather low weight—just over 2500 lbs—it seems capable of going not just forward, left and right too. Mind you, it does all that with a four-speed stick shift. “If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. All we changed when rebuilding it was to swap the final drive.”

Easy listening
There is no gigantic subwoofer in the trunk, though they did at least give it a CD player. “Who needs tunes when you have turbines in stereo right in front of you.” And they are loud; After a demonstration we found that we agree with the assessment of the entertainment situation.

Another thing that surprised us is that it still runs on premium pump gas. “Ethanol is hard to come by back in Oslo. We needed easy access to test it properly.” With that and the still unoccupied trunk, YFTS’ TwinTurbo Helitro remains surprisingly practical for everyday use.

The room in the elephant
We couldn’t help but notice a rotund black-furred friend quietly relaxing in the rear seats. “The cat stays” said Mr. Ananas calmly. “It adds 9 horsepower.”

A lot fruitier inside and out than the stock trim, in keeping with its tuner’s promise, and the perfect foil to the tuned Axxus Sabre, which is much more of a sleeper by comparison.

I KNEW when you accepted the Axxus, something great was gonna happen, and i couldnt wait to see the final product. You really did that car justice, real shit!! Ive always wanted to tune it but never got around to it, i definitely seen the potential, and apparently you did too!! I love everything you did to it, especially the fender flaring, i would have never been able to pull that off!! Great work, thats dope!!

The Need For The Speed

“Are you sure this will work?”

A woman put a hand on her head as a man taped a flyer to a lightpost. Sunlight scorched the ground as the palm trees lining the streets swayed in the wind.

“Do you have a better idea, Ryujin?” A man ironed the tape down.

“Well, no,” The woman rubbed her foot into the ground, “But this seems like a sure-fire way to attract the wrong kind of attention, Jan.”

“You mean the heat?” Jan turned around. “Trust me, the cops have bigger fish to fry than some lowly street racers like us. Do you have any idea how many drug lords live in LA alone?”

“Do you have any idea how much the police chief hates street racing?”

“He won’t focus on us,” Jan said. “Besides, it’s only a harmless drag race. How much danger does that pose to the populace?”

“You’ve never played Need for Speed Underground, have you?”

“Should I have?” Jan raised an eyebrow.

“Never mind,” Ryujin shook her head. “Let’s just hang up the rest of your stupid flyers and get this over with.”

Rev Up Those Racers

Axxus Sabre Wagon LE1 (Stan “Brougham” Springfield)

“This is the second weirdest thing to show up here,” Ryujin facepalmed.
Jan and Ryujin walked towards a beige wagon. A man grinned as he leaned against a flared wheel arch.

“I see you’ve seen my ride!” The man opened his arms wide. “I’m Brougham, the mastermind behind this.”

“It doesn’t look very flashy.” Jan examined the chunky car body.

“I hate all that underglow stuff.” Brougham waved his hand. “Besides, how does a sub-5-second 0-60 and almost 400 hp sound? Plus, it’s RWD.”

“I like that,” Jan nodded.

“Aren’t you worried it’ll be a little underpowered?” Ryujin said.

“I’m just here to have fun,” Bougham said. “Plus, this thing doubles as my daily.”
“Fair enough,”
Jan nodded.

Pluma Turbo Green Menace (Thiago Maciel)

“This thing is tiny!”

Jan scrunched up his face as he walked towards the small, green car.

“And pimped,” Ryujin said, staring at the green neons stretching around the car. “I wonder if this guy is compensating for something.”

“Yo!” Thiago climbed out of the small car. “This is the right place to meet for the drag race, right?”
“You bet your ass it is!” Ryujin put a hand on her hip. “You mind telling me what this green booger is?”
“The fruit of my hard labors!” Thiago patted the hood of his car. “This thing’s got grip for days and acceleration that’ll snap your spine in half!”

“Then why’s it so tiny?” Jan furrowed his brow.

“For lightness and agility.” Thiago grinned. “There’s nothing faster around the city streets, I guarantee it.”

“Yeah, sure,” Ryujin said. “That’s what they all say.”

Curassow MRX-II 200R Teir 4 (Miguel Sánchez)

“We have a sedan here.”

Ryujin and Jan examined the navy blue car.

“It looks like it’s still stock on the outside.” Jan walked around the car.

“I can assure you that it isn’t.”

Jan and Ryujin turned as a man walked over; a scowl hung on his face.

“And you are?”** Jan raised an eyebrow.**

“Miguel.” The man furrowed his brow. “And how dare you assume this thing is stock after all my hard work.”
“Then what did you do to it?”Ryujin said.

“I gave it a clutched LSD, wider and stickier tires, outbored and redid the engine internals for the improved turbo, and much more.”

“Yet, you brought a sedan,” Jan said.

“I daily this thing,” Miguel said, “And the extra doors and cargo space come in handy.”
“If you say so,” Jan shrugged.

“Let’s look at someone else’s car,” Ryujin tilted her head to the side.

“I agree,” Jan nodded.

Iron Daisy (Diana Marbella)

“What the hell is that?” Jan said.

Jan and Ryujin stood beside a truck in the parking lot, hot pink paint glistening in the lamp light.

“Does this racer even know that we’re supposed to be racing?” Ryujin dragged her hand down her face. “This is an utter joke!”

“Hi there!”

Jan and Ryujin turned as a woman walked over. Booty shorts rode up her thighs as she flicked her long, brown hair back.

“I’m Diana,” She smiled. “I’m here for that drag race. Is this the right place to meet?”

“Uhh, yeah,” Blood rushed to Jan’s cheeks.

“I’m Ryujin,” Ryujin walked forward and held out her hand. “I helped this idiot organize everything.”
“So,” Diana shook it, “Were you the dumbass who put up all those flyers?” Diana put her hands on her slim waist.

“That was him,” Ryujin pointed behind her.

“I had to get the word out somehow!” Jan walked up to Diana, “I’m Jan, by the way.”

“You might be getting the wrong type of attention with all those flyers you put up,” Diana shook her head.

Ryujin elbowed Jan.

“I didn’t have any other ideas,” Jan shrugged.

“Whatever,” Diana waved her hand. “Don’t blame me if the heat shows up.” She smirked as she pointed at her truck, “What do you think of my ride?”

“It’s unorthodox,” Ryujin said.

“I think it’s great,” Jan nodded.

“You think so?” Diana’s blue eyes glinted in the lamp light. “I have over 1,300 ft-lbs of torque, plus the stickiest tires known to man!” Diana gestured at the pink truck. “This thing will pull for ages!”

“And it’s all on a giant, pink brick,” Ryujin facepalmed. “Why didn’t you get a real car?”

“Don’t diss it, Ryujin,” Jan elbowed her. “I think it’s great!”

“Is this heat getting to you?” Ryujin turned with an eyebrow raised.

“So,” Diana’s tank top swayed in the breeze as she put her hands on her hips, “Who else is coming to this?”

Conduit Q Sport Wagon (unknown)

“This is interesting.”

Jan and Ryujin stood by a black station wagon, paintwork absorbing the streetlights.

“It’s almost as weird as that stupid pink truck.”
“Don’t be dissing on the truck now,” Ken said.

“Why are you so defensive over it?”
_“Can we just focus on this?” Jan pointed at the wagon.

“Whoever modded this knew what they were doing,” Ryujin said, scanning the wagon. “Look at those fat tires. I bet it’s good in the corners for what it is.”
“I bet there’s some serious power, too.”

“I wonder where the owner is.” Ryujin scanned the sparse parking lot.

“I think I see someone else pulling in.” Jan turned and waved his hand, “Come on, let’s go check out this ride!”

Soni Pirhana SST (James Blake)

“This car looks depressing.”
Jan and Ryujin shook their heads as a man furrowed his brow.

“What do you mean it looks depressing?!” The man said.

“It looks like a malaise special, James,” Ryujin said.

“Me and my buddies worked very hard on this thing, you know,” James crossed his arms. “We gave it active suspension, a billet crank, a huge supercharger, and some hardcore aero.”

James grinned, “You won’t be saying it’s malaise when I sail past you on the streets.”
“I like the stripes, though,” Jan said. “Not sure about the color scheme.”

“Says the man with a purple and green car,” James shook his head.

“Don’t insult my car like that!” Jan retorted

“Then why did you insult mine?”

“Ladies, you’re both beautiful,” Ryujin said,

“Now shut up!” She turned to Jan, “Let his driving do the talking, yeah?”

“Sure,” Jan grumbled.

“Whatever,” James rolled his eyes.

“Let’s just go to the next car,” Jan walked away.

F&N Taiga GP Stargazer (unknown)

“This one’s got a sick bodykit!”
Jan nodded his head at a green car as Ryujin scanned the parking lot.

“Where’s the driver?” She said.

“Does it matter?” Jan said. “This thing looks fast! Look at all the aero parts bolted onto it.”

“They do look like they’re for performance, not show, unlike the rest of the car.”

“This one may be a worthy rival to my epic ride!”

“You barely know anything about the car, man.” said Ryujin

“Oh, I wish I could meet the guy behind it all.”

“Wherever the hell he is,” Ryujin shook her head.

Daisen Colima Ultra Sport (Marcus “Mack” Rivera)

“What a sick ride!”
Jan ran over to the orange hatchback as Ryujin followed him.

“I love the vinyl work on this,” Ryujin nodded as her eyes followed the black stripe down the car.

“The owner clearly loves it.”

“I sure as hell do.”
Ryujin turned her head as a man walked over.

“I’m Mack,” The man grinned and held out his hand. “I’m the mastermind behind this hatchback.”

“The car looks great!” Jan shook his head.

“You should’ve seen the state it was in when I bought it,” Mack grinned. “It was one sorry looking scrap heap, but I’ve turned it into a monster!”

“Based on the other cars here,” Ryujin put her hands on her hips, “Aren’t you a little rattled by how much faster they seem?”

“I’ve examined their rides,” Mack said, “And I’m confident I can take them.”
“There’s a difference between confidence and foolishness, you know.”

“Then you have a lot to learn about me, lady,” Mack pointed at himself, “Because I’m one of the best there is!”
“I’ll buy that once I see you driving,” Ryujin said.

“Just you wait.”

Novara Marlin GTX - ESR - ‘V’ (unknown)

“What a big ass car!”
Jan nodded as he crossed his arms, purple neons glowing on the violet car.

“This thing looks ancient,” Ryujin put her hand on her hip, “And I bet it handles poorly, too.”
“But I bet it’s got a great sounding V8 MODUR under the hood! Plus with those tires, it looks like a serious track weapon!”
“How come we can never find the owners to some of these cars?” Ryujin scanned the parking lot.

“Who cares when they got rides as sweet looking as this!” Jan grinned. “I love this thing a LOT!”
“You already made that known,” Ryujin shook her head.

Kairu 560T Firenze (Jamar Brown)

“This one looks like a supercar, Jamar.”

Jan pointed at the silver car as Ryujin and the owner stood by him.

“Indeed it is,” Jamar grinned. “I came here to win, not to loaf about.”
“And what makes this one special?” Ryujin said.

“700 HP, one huge supercharger, 0-60 in the low 3s,” Jamar patted the hood of his car. “Plus, I learned my driving from an ex-GT racer, so I have the skill to wield something like this.”

“It certainly does look like a race car with that roof scoop,” Jan said.

“This thing sticks to the road like a magnet, too,” Jamar said, “So I’m ready for whatever may happen.”

“We’ll see just how fast your car really is when we race you,” Jan grinned.

“And you will be blown away,” Jamar said.

Renwoo Nissa KEN Edition (Ken Lagamine)

“What the hell is this yellow turd?”

Ryujin shook her head as she walked towards a yellow convertible.

“It’s pretty dope looking,” Jan nodded. “I love the wing.”
“Don’t tell me you actually like this.”

“Hello there!” A man walked over.

“Are you the mastermind behind this?” Ryujin shook her head.

“I sure am!” The man beamed. “I’m Ken, and this is my beauty.”

Ryujin stared at the massive rims, “RIght. A real beauty indeed.”

“I put so much work into this thing, you know,”
Ken leaned against the transparent hood.
“I converted it into a convertible and bumped it up to almost 500 HP!”

“Don’t tell me this is FWD.”

“Like that’ll stop me!”

“I love this giant dial you have back here,” Jan pointed at a large knob over the trunk.

“That’s for the bass.” Ken scanned the parking lot, “Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to look for my dumbass sister.”

“There’s two of you?” Ryujin facepalmed.

“Later!” Ken waved and walked away.

Rocket - Apollo GT-S (Anthony Harper)

“This one looks like it’s falling apart,” Jan said.

Jan kicked the front bumper of the green car as Ryujin poked at duct tape.

“Hey, don’t touch that!” A man ran over.

“Oops,” Jan put his foot on the ground. “Sorry, ehm, what’s your name?”

“Anthony,” He kneeled and adjusted the front bumper.

“Why all the duct tape?” Ryujin said.

“Because I spent all my cash on engine and aero mods,” Anthony stood. “Plus, the plastic was cracking around the front bumper mounting points.”

“What did you do to it?” Jan said.

“Added a turbo, a splitter, a massive rear wing, and added racing seats. Plus, I have a CD player and a banging stereo for me tunes.”

“Because that obviously makes the car faster,” Ryujin facepalmed.

“Just wait until I hit the streets with this sucker!” Anthony pointed at himself. “They won’t see it coming!”

“They will in that shade of green.”

“Let’s move on,” Jan nudged Ryujin.

“Gladly,” Ryujin said.

Sparkhill - MS (Mausil)

“Another small one.”

Ryujin patted the hood of a small coupe as Jan scanned the body.

“It’s got a V6 under there,” Jan pointed at the glass engine cover. “And it has two turbos.”

“I see you two have found my masterpiece.”

Jan and Ryujin turned as an old man hobbled towards the car.

“And you are?” Jan raised his eyebrow.

“Mausil,” The old man smiled.

“No offense,” Ryujin said, “But you look a little old to be doing this.”

“I’ve been doing this longer than you’ve been alive times two, sonny.” Mausil chuckled as he stopped by his car, “I first started running moonshine down in the south, which turned into NASCAR.”

“No way you helped found NASCAR!” Jan’s jaw hit the ground.

“I had a big say in it,” Mausil smirked. “I was the fastest shine runner in the Carolinas, so don’t count me out of this just because I’m old.”

“I guess we won’t now,” Ryujin scratched the back of her head.

stalwartness TA (John Park)

“This thing looks like a race car!”

Jan pointed at a matte black car as he and Ryujin walked over. A man climbed out of the car and waved.

“Hey there!” He closed the door. “This is the right location for the drag race, right?”

“It sure is!” Jan grinned and walked around the car. “Tell me more about your car, though!”

“It’s a highly modified Stalwartness to resemble an old Trans-Am racer.” The man patted the roof, “There’s over 870 HP in this thing and a turbocharger large enough to kickstart a jet engine! This thing will even crack 200 MPH!”

“Woah!” Jan’s eyes sparkled.

“What else can it do?” Ryujin said.

“It’ll spin its wheels at almost any speed, even with the thick rear tires I put on this.”
“Where are the headlights?” Ryujin glanced at the front of the car.

“Don’t need them in a city,” The man waved his arm. “Besides, it makes it harder for the cops to find me.”

“What if you go onto a backroad?”

“Then I’ll crash and likely die.”

“That kind of confidence is rare in street racers,” Ryujin put her hands on her hips.

“I’ve been doing this for a long time.”

“What’s your name?”
“John Park.”

“Hey Jan,” Ryujin turned her head, “Let’s go find the next one.”

“Sure thing.” Jan nodded at Park, “I love this thing.”

“I’m glad you do,” Park said.

ACZ LUB “Recordbreaker” (Lin Lagamine)

“What the hell is this?” Ryujin furrowed her brow.

Ryujin and Jan walked towards the navy blue van. Lights pulsed on the side skirts as music poured through the speakers.

Oh, hey there!” A woman by the van waved. “You two must be the organizers!”

“We sure are!” Jan grinned. “Ehm, what’s your name?”
“Lin.”

“You look a little young to be doing this, sweetheart,” Ryujin said.

“Says who?” Lin grinned. “This van has a few tricks up its sleeve.”

“Like what?” Jan crossed his arms.

“How does helical AWD and a supercharged V6 sound?”

“Very nice,” Jan nudged Ryujin, “Right?”

“I guess it’s fine,” Ryujin shook her head.

“Wait,” Jan scrunched his face up, “You look familiar.”

“You probably met my brother, Ken,” Lin said.

“OH YEAH!!” Jan’s face lit up. “I remember him.”

“You two have similar tastes in cars,” Ryujin said.

“Somewhat,” Lin cocked her head to the side. “I hate his stupid French snail thing.”

“Let’s move on to the next car,” Ryujin turned to Jan.

“Gladly,” Jan nodded.

Isehara Vistina B4 RS (John Brown)

“Are the stripes really necessary?” Ryujin facepalmed

Ryujin and Jan stood by a white liftback, blue stripes running down the top.

“I think so!” Jan said. “Everyone knows that stripes add horsepower!”

“I hope you know that’s just a legend,” Ryujin turned her head.

“Duh?”

“It looks pretty good, though,” Ryujin said.

“With no sign of a driver,” Jan scanned the crowd. “Weird.”

“Anyways,Ryujin said, “Next car.”

Argon Tempest GSC “Stacked Deck” (Darius Silverton)

“Where have I seen this livery before?”

Ryujin scratched her head as she and Jan walked towards a red and black coupe.

“Why do you say that?” Jan said. “Did you bet on it or something?”

“Maybe.” She stood beside the sleek coupe and reached her hand out, “It just looks familiar.”

“Don’t touch it!”

Ryujin pulled her hand away as a man in a red coat walked over, scowl on his pale face.

“Oh, sorry!” Ryujin said.

“What brings you here?” Jan said.

“I’m Darius,” The man in the red coat pointed to himself, “The best racer there is. I came here to win.”

“With this old thing?” Jan nodded towards the car.

“I have over 1500 hp.” Darius grinned, “No one can touch me.”

“We’ll see about that,” Ryujin grumbled.

“What was that?” Darius said.

“Uhh, I’ll bet on that!” Ryujin forced a smile.

YFTS TwinTurbo Helitro (unknown)

“Isn’t this an old man’s car?” Ryujin said.

Ryujin and Jan stood before a yellow coupe, orange flames stretching down the sides.

“I’m so used to seeing these in beige,” Jan kicked a tire, “I forgot they can come in other colors.”

“This had an I6, right” Ryujin said.

“If I recall, yes.” Jan glanced down the car, “The body kit is very nice.”

“It did have some extensive aero work done to it.” Ryujin turned around, “If only the owner was here so he could tell us more.”

“If only,” Jan nudged Ryujin. “Let’s go.”

Macale Manta 4.4 GT LM (Kelly Parker)

“You’re the second person here to show up in a super car, Kelly,” Ryujin said.

Ryujin, Jan, and Kelly stood by a blue coupe under a flickering street lamp.

“It was a birthday present from me, to me!” Kelly’s blue eyes danced in the street light. “Pretty sweet, isn’t it?”

“You must have an ass of gold to get this at your young age,” Ryujin muttered.

“What was that?” Kelly furrowed her brow.

“You must be so bold to buy a car like this!”

“I know! And the LM Kit bumps the power up to 550 HP, gives me firmer suspension, and some of the stickiest tires money can buy!”

“I kind of like it.” Jan peered through the glass engine cover, “And it’s still NA?”

“Yep!” Kelly said. “I don’t need turbos to beat the competition.”

“You haven’t seen any of the other cars yet, have you?” Ryujin said.

“Nope!” Kelly raised an eyebrow, “Why do you ask?”

“No reason,” Ryujin said. “Let’s go, Jan.”
“Sure,” Jan said.

M.H Ragnarøk S-6x2 “Entropy” (Grant Wolfram)

“Are you sure this thing’s street legal, Grant?”

Ryujin scratched her head as Grant crossed his arms. Jan walked around the low slung coupe as Grant nodded towards his car

“It was at one point,” Grant said, “But the mods I’ve done make it more of a race car.”

“It sure does look like one,” Jan walked over. “It seems like you brought a gun to a knife fight.”

“I want to prove my tuning to the world, to show that I’m the next great name in performance tuning.”

“It’s a good thing you’re extremely humble,” Ryujin’s words dripped with sarcasm.

“Besides, this sucker’s 3.3L flat 6 churns out over 800 HP, and in a car as light as this, this thing will sail right past everyone else.”

“We’ll see about that,” Jan chuckled.

“You dare doubt my tuning skills?!” Grant balled his hands into fists.

“And your ego isn’t fragile, either,” Ryujin shook her head.

Coston - Blazen S3X (Hannah Stewartson)

“Who knew there’d be two pink cars here?” Jan said.

Jan and Ryujin walked over to a pearlescent pink sedan, paintwork glistening under the street lamp.

“And they’re both driven by women,” Ryujin spotted a girl climbing out of the car.

“Oh, hello there!” The woman waved as she closed the door. “I’m Hannah. Are you two the organizers?”

“We sure are.” Jan grinned and pointed at the car, “Do you mind telling me what this is?”

“It’s my ride!” Hannah grinned. “650 HP from 2.1L thanks to two huge turbos and some handy ethanol. Plus, big enough brakes for this thing to stop on a dime!”

“You’re the first person to mention their car’s brakes,” Ryujin said.

“They’re the single most important part for a performance vehicle,” Hannah said. “My dad was a longtime GT racer. He was always on about how ‘races are won in the braking zones’, so I made sure my car will deliver on that.”

“What’s your last name?” Jan cocked his head to the side.

“Stewartson,” Hannah said.

“I think I’ve heard of him,” Jan scratched his head. “He must’ve been before I was paying attention to it.”

“I’m excited for this drag race, though,” Hannah grinned. “I came to win.”

“So did everyone else,” Ryujin said.

Katami Identity GT Sciel (Martin Lopez)

“This is the second ugly green car I’ve seen tonight.”

Ryujin shook her head as she stood next to a green convertible.

“Wishing you made a bet on it?” Jan nudged her with his elbow.

“I do now, yeah,” Ryujin put her hands on her hips. “The purple accents are nice.”

“I like to call it the Green Eyed Monster.”

Jan turned as a man walked over, “So you must be the mastermind behind this then?”

“That’s me,” The man pointed at himself. “The name’s Martin. I’ve fitted this RWD vert to be the best there is at racing.”

“What does it have?” Ryujin said.

“Semislick tires, forged internals, a huge turbo, plus many other mods.” Martin nodded, “As I always say, if it has less than 500 HP, it’s not worth it.”

“Ooo, I like that saying!” Jan said.

“So how much power does it have?” Ryujin said.

“525 horses!” Martin beamed.

“That’s barely more,” Ryujin shook her head.

“More is more, and besides, just wait until I hit the corners with this.”
“I’m sure the convertible body type won’t hurt you there at all,” Ryujin said.

“I’m not worried over it,” Martin said.

Tarantasia Ghoul Lyxn GTO (Lynx Len)

“Ooo!” Jan pointed at a red car, “We have a retro ride!”

He and Ryujin stood by an old red supercar.

“Miami Vice called,” Ryujin stared at the low slung coupe, “They want their car back.”

“I see you two have seen my ride.”

Jan and Ryujin whirled around as a man in a sports coat walked over.

“It’s very nice,” Jan said. “How did you afford this thing?”

“Let’s just say I’m not new to the racing scene.” The man held out his hand, “I’m Lynx.”

“So what makes your car special?” Jan shook his hand.

“740 hp of pure mechanical fury and grip for days,” Lynx grinned. “This thing will beat the pants off of many newer vehicles, as long as you can control it.”

“Which I’m guessing you can?” Ryujin said.

“If I couldn’t, I wouldn’t be here,” Lynx said.

“I wish all the rides looked as sweet as this,” Jan nodded.

“So do I, kid,” Lynx said.

Steigen Yaksha V-4TC “Dutch Spec” (Jan Vander Plas)

“And now for the best car here!” Jan grinned.

Jan’s face beamed as he stood by a purple car.

“You can’t just claim that yours is the best car here,” Ryujin facepalmed.

“Why not? I have a sub 2.5 second 0-60 and a top speed of almost 210 mph! What’s there to not like about that?”

“You’re comparing yourself to a car with over 1500 hp, you know.” Said Ryujin

“Eh, that thing will just be spinning its wheels. I actually have grip.”

“And you have a CVT.” replied Ryujin

“Hey, I’ll be sailing right past you while you’re changing gears.”

“And straight to the autoshop when that transmission of yours explodes.”

“I’ll bet you a hundred bucks I’ll smoke you in the drag race,” Jan held out his hand.

“You’re on,” Ryujin shook it. “You do know I made my cash making bets like these, right?”
“Even the best gamblers get it wrong sometimes,” Jan grinned.

Kurosake Sunlight GT1 (Ryujin Kim)

“Now this is the best car here.”

Ryujin grinned as she patted the hood of her white coupe, golden rims glowing in the street lamp light.

“Right,” Jan shook his head,“Because you’re not biased at all.”

“I’ll have you know my betting money went to good use for this baby.” Ryugin leaned against her car’s fender, “AWD, sub 3 second 0-60, plus a top speed of 230 and enough lateral g to rip your face off in the corners. I wanted carbon fiber panels, but my supplier fell through last minute.”

“I’ll admit, that’s not bad,” Jan nodded, “But, you’re still going to lose to me.”

“Says the one with the Joker-looking-ass car with one of them shit CVTs.”

“Just you wait until I cream you!” Jan fist pumped. “Then we’ll see who’s laughing!”

“You wish you could in more ways than one, loser!”

“What’s that supposed to mean?” Jan scrunched up his face.

“You’ll figure it out eventually,” Ryujin grinned.

Props to you for getting it right about every character’s lore (mine included). Fingers crossed the actual racing portion (which should happen very soon) goes off without a hitch.

my thoughts exactly, thats why I didn’t put it in mine, better to win with something more exciting

Reliability, not flexibility, was the key reason why I spurned a CVT and went with a proper 6-speed manual gearbox instead.

I did have to put like +12 quality in it though

What’s poppin Jimbos?

Here’s the stats for all the tuned cars (in no particular order), plus the intro before the character introductions.

Introduction

“This is conspicuous as hell,” Ryujin muttered.

Ryujin shook her head as she and Jan stood in an empty parking lot. Streetlights glinted off their cars as the moon hung over the city.

“Have faith, Ryujin,” Jan said. “Someone will show up.”

“They better do it soon,” Ryujin checked her watch. “The last thing we want is the heat to notice our meet first.”

“I told you the chief is too busy with drug lords to notice us.”

“That doesn’t mean we’re not on his radar, genius.”

“Relax.” Jan turned his head as an exhaust note echoed off the buildings, “See? Here comes our first racer now.”
