Themed Design Challenge 2 - Streamliners

1709970385307

During the 1930s, as the automobile evolved from a simple horseless carriage, aerodynamics began to take importance in automotive design. Streamliners, as they are known, eschewed the upright and boxy styling of their predecessors, opting instead for smooth, rounded shapes which would allow them to reduce drag, thus increasing efficiency. Now, with the advent of electrification, increasing aerodynamic efficiency is once again at the forefront.
The challenge, then, is to design a modern, mid-2020s sedan with styling that follows the principles of streamlining – increasing aerodynamic efficiency and reducing drag through the shape of the car. Though originally heavily tied to the Streamline Moderne and Art Deco styles, this design doesn’t need to follow the principles of said styles.

Rules
  • This challenge will be run on the stable version of the game.
  • Must look like a mid-2020s design.
  • It doesn’t need to strictly look like an EV, it can have ICE-powered characteristics.
  • Must adhere to the design principles of streamlining – its shape must look like it can cut through the air with the least resistance – but doesn’t need to adhere to the principles of Art Deco.
  • Must look like a sedan or sedan-adjacent (say, a liftback or a somewhat tall sedan without quite being as tall as a “coupĂ© SUV”).
  • Wheelbase must be between 2.6 and 3.1 metres, rounded.
  • Body style and wheelbase will be evaluated independently of what the game says. You can use whatever body type you want, as long as the end product looks like a sedan. It must have – visually – four doors (five if it’s a liftback).
  • Interiors will not be judged.
Judging criteria

In no particular order:

  • Adherence to the theme
  • Proportions
  • Surfacing, detailing and quality of execution

Alpha or Stable?

Good point, I’m gonna stay on stable for a while so the challenge is going to be on stable.

Can we use the coupe body models if they fit the wheel base? Instead of a sedan body

Yes, you can use whatever body type you want, as long as the end product looks like a sedan. The main thing is that – visually – it must have four doors (five if it’s a liftback).

There are no restrictions on model/trim/family/variant years, though - it just has to look like something believable from the mid-2020s.

Guess it’s time to make the Aerodynes successor

Could you Change the lower limit to 2.6 to allow a larger range of bodies?

does this pass as a streamlined car?

I mean, not really, that’s a pretty traditional design, but you can definitely work on that as a base.

Does this count as a “rounded” body?

i mean, i can’t just be giving everyone “the answers”, especially after submissions already opened…

Modern bodies are really limited honestly, that’s not much you can change about them, I mean if it was at least super cars we could’ve done something with some of the mod bodies

Probably might have to try some 3D work
