I love the turbos I managed to get 2250bhp out of a V8 it failed on the stand but who cares!
Trying to convert one of my pre-update engines to turbo crashed the game. I’ve attached the engine.
What I was doing before it crashed:
Year 1996 → 2013 (was doing an update)
Block Cast Iron → Al
Fuel MPFI → DFI
This worked fine UNTIL I tried to stick a turbo on.
4A-GE 20V Black TopRev0.lua (25.6 KB)
The turbos need alot of work. There are alot of restrictions and stipulations now.
In the Aspiration category it has Compressor size, Turbine Size, AR Ratio, and Max boost.
which sizes are the compressor and turbine? Inducer or Exducer?
The sizes dont work right either. You should be able to go higher then 100mm on compressor and 109.5mm on turbine.
Make Single or Twin turbo choosable.
I also feel you need to introduce more fuels into the game. 110 octane, 116 octane, 120 Octane race fuel, Ethanol E85, and M1 Methanol would be nice.
Indeed they need some work but, other than that its fooking awesome
Making idiotic engines with crapton of boost is fun but when it comes to turbocharging engines i have saved just for that its freaking hard to make it reliable and not to burn the turbo itself O_o i can hardly see mysefl using turbocharged engines over N/A engines when we finally get campaign. go 1 single barrel carb turbocharged 1.0!!! XD
PS. one thing, why does the turbine nearly ALWAYS turn red at around 4/5k rpm -_- is it because we only have short cast headers atm?
What is the “boost preview” telling me? I.e. what do the lines stand for?
When you move sliders with Turbine/Compressor/AR ratio/Boost it shows you how will your turbocharged monster perform like where zeh boost starts and drops

ok, but what is the difference between the blue and the red line? Sometimes, when not limiting the max. boost, I get a big peak in the blue line but a much smaller, steady red one. What’s the meaning of this?

Its a boost curve line. I havent really paid much attention to it. One might be ideal while the other is what your settings produce.
As we still haven’t implemented tool-tips (they’ll be coming though!) the info on what the curves are is difficult to guess: the higher one is the theoretical maximum boost, and the lower curve is what effectively gets produced (including thermal losses, etc.).
ah so Blue Line is Max possible boost without loss, Red line is Boost available with loss okay now I get it!
now the NA engines behave totally different and less realistic and turbochargers a very steep torque curve.
Did I do something wrong with the update or turbo isnt available in the demo?
Turbos are in the pre-order versions only (same as Inline 6 and V8).
Hi there,
Why is it when I create an engine and it has Fuel Octane (RON) of let’s say 90.9 and when I add a turbo it has 102.9? So I have to lower compression A LOT and mess with the settings.
Was trying to create the Seat Ibiza 1.2 TSI engine with 105 HP…compression 10.0:1
I don’t understand it. I’m not getting any more power with turbo
I have already created a monster a 2250bhp engine that fails on the stand back off the rev limiter and it will back off the power but make it usable now its time to put that V8 monster inside a car -laughs evilly-
@jagermeister: boost increases you effective compression, that’s why the octane requirements go up. You can counteract that by giving the engine more fuel. If you’re unsure about turbo designs, I suggest you use the presets and build the engine around that turbo instead.
Ya, I’ve definitely had a difficult time rebuilding the engines that I have made with the turbo. It seems you really have to design the engine around the turbo. I’ve had lots of compression problems with my originals.
Thanks Killrob, I’m getting better at it now.

Uhh. We have not made any major changes to N/A engines, what’s less realistic about them now?
