First prototypes. Tips welcome.
I’m still thinking about leaving the power curve as it is on the turbo models (the N/A ones looks pretty great), or tweak to make it smoother, at the loss of some horsepower.
The name codes follows this pattern:
1st digit: Type (so far, P for Performance, E for Economy. I’ll be changing this when different engines are produced)
2nd and 3rd digit: Displacement, rounded.
4th digit: Aspiration (A for N/A, T for Turbo)
5th digit: How many cylinders
6th digit: Separator, always H (for Horsepower)
Following digits: Horsepower, rounded.
They all (but the P50T8H1700S) run on 91 Octane petrol.
Great detail with the engine codes, I’d definitely think about cranking back the power a bit though, the first two are good solid engines, but engine life and economy for the sports line are really low for production engines.
I made the engine code with base on the Nissan code, with a few tweaks for easy listing on the engine configurator! Bit long, but pretty neat.
Yeah, the fuel consumption is terrible. I can’t kinda make turbos powerful enough and with good economy. Most of the time, the power increase doesn’t compensate for the increased fuel consumption (not to mention the turbo lag on them).
Idk if I’m modeling it wrong or if the game still has a simple form of turbo.
I’m not sure which percentage is good enough for fuel consumption, so I assume around 20~25 is pretty good. The consumption on the turbo ones is horrendous, and the cost for DFI ones is too high. I’ll have to give a more patient shot at it later.
The engine life is a little bit weird, as the engine sandbox has a kW per litre limit, and when the engine surpass this limit, it’ll get a MTBF penalty (a dev said that). They mostly get ~70000km MTBF when mounted on the car (given it has enough cooling).
I did for a quick test, but they’re pretty generic with no interesting features.
Still got to think about the design, some visual identity and stuff. They’re all too modern too, I’ll make some classic models later.
(And I cheated on the GT-R and Pantera V8. there are grills overlapping one another, and it counts as a valid, thus increasing the cooling lol)
You got it! I started trying to make a efficient green engine… but couldn’t, so I just went crazy. Wish I could feel this engine IRL, it would make quite a punch on the chest.
There’s another one I like. Mid N/A phase, mid turbo phase. Nice for going from point A to B fuel-efficiently, and for track days! The torque curve is a bit weird, though.
Yeah, it’s just a showcase. I’ll make one of every “Sport” engine in future projects.
And for the MTBF…

I don’t really know why there’s this penalty. They are, but the P50T8H1700S, rated 70000+km. I don’t know how much is good enough, but I can’t kinda squeeze more km from it.
The P20T4H560 is also 0.0MTBF, but…
