You’re absolutely right, more weight generally means more weight where it’s needed, especially in an FF car. I guess I had spent a bit of time tweaking and found this tiny little sweet spot (and believe me it is tiny) in the engine tune to the weight ratio.
Likely I’ll just switch bodies for the Group B trim with its ridiculously phat tyre accomodations. A pish to insufficient traction!
Also Vos, had you said that after I had hit post (I got ninja’d), I would have been annoyed, but since you said it first, that’s exactly what I’ll likely be doing!
Sub 2:00 in the test track I’ll be impressed of you can get it under 2:05 with an FF.
@Vos: It’s more the fact that one cannot simply pile on more weight and hope for the best, I have to rebalance the entire car in order to use different materials, which for my purposes, since these are relatively quick builds, just means might as well build an entirely new car.

Grouse all you want Strop. You bought this game to build cars. I’m merely giving you double the chances to do so.
Yeah yeah I know I’m really just whining because of my own personal circumstances, having just gotten back from holidays and about to start work tomorrow.
But it’s all good, I’ve achieved my aims despite being unable to use CF and will be sending in my entry tonight
Okay then, I’m pleased to reveal a horrible travesty in which the GG guys take a cheeky dump over a legend of automotive history.
As you can see from the decal, it’s a not Qwattro! And by not Qwattro, I don’t mean the way in which we customarily name our car replicas so we don’t step on anybody’s toes, I actually mean, it’s not a Qwattro, as in, the AWD drivetrain that made the Quattro what it was has been removed and replaced with a 2.7L V8 with quite a bit of boost… but not so much that it renders the car completely undriveable. And for the purposes of these races, the engine is kind of running a bit hot (i.e. we duct taped most of the vents shut). But nonetheless the parts are top notch and the engine itself is good for 813hp, which, for a car weighing 785kg, is adequate for our purposes. Had we kept the original drivetrain and tuned from there, the car would have weighed considerably more, yes, but probably the car would have been able to hustle around the track a fair bit faster again… but since this was our FF experiment, we’re able to declare that with some fancy tricks, FF cars can indeed race due to their lightness. On that note, braking forces of up to -4.0g were recorded, and on tight corners, the forces were off the charts! It’s worth mentioning that absurdly wide front tyres, only made possible through previous work done on racing versions of the Mephisto, did help.
That being said, we don’t expect to be competitive in a straight line. The car has ridiculous amounts of drag owing to the astronomical downforce bodykit.
Ah, Strop managed to pull traditional Gryphon Gear creed and has more horsepower than kilograms.
And yeah, I know I’ve probably lost. I did it as an experiment in four-cylinder engine technology (I love my turbo-flatplane V8’s, I’m sorry. I don’t do 4-cyl often enough) to see if I could make something fun out of it.
I’ll just go back to patiently waiting, then. Not so much for the conclusion of this contest, but for something much more… wild.
While more horses than kilos is definitely my imperative, in the case of FF cars (and anything that isn’t AWD really), more horses isn’t necessarily a good thing… an overly steep torque spike actually completely ruins the vehicle dynamics and it’s impossible to accelerate properly out of a corner. I ported some of the insane overboosted engines to Beam.NG actually, and found that out for myself
I really should build something batshit crazy for this, something that will rip your eyeballs out while braking, and put them back in their sockets with BOOOOST!
Or should i? Hehehe, you’ll be surprised.
Darn it, went to get this all together with a tweak or two…and somehow all the files have disapeared! the car no longer shows in the sandbox screen.
I can find the engines in their folder, but nothing in the car/models folder.
I was worried my car wasnt going to be the fastest so I toned down the downforce, it was over 300mph before I added a lip and wing but it had even less grip in corners than a deer on ice. BTW Vos, can you list power figures?
EDIT: Once I read that Strop was having issues getting under 7mins on GH I decided to not try for cornering and just went for speed he would need to sacrifice a lot of speed for grip so I KNEW I could get him there
