If it had a rear seat and a hardtop, it’s possible it was a Triumph GT6. It was essentially a coupe variant of the Spitfire paired with a tiny straight six.

I’ve seen those in person, I don’t think it had that shape at the rear, I remember it being more fastback. Guess I’ll have to ask!

the last car before he died was an green Ascona C-CC
I can keep this quite short , not much of an extended family and no real car persons among them. (And not the actual cars - but the actual colours - shown.)
After my father’s Alfasud had rusted through the chassis at the tender age of 2.5yr and wouldn’t have stood a chance to pass the first TÜV inspection, he switched brands and got
a 1980 Honda Accord
and then a 1987? 88? Honda Accord
(Guess the brand he is driving today…)
I also spent some time in my grandfather’s 1978 Volkswagen Derby
and then in his 1991 Nissan Micra

The vaguest of memories (I was less than 4 years old) of a Toyota Crown. The engine decided to surrender ownership of a fan blade to the bonnet one day, then it got a little warm.
Ford Falcon XB Wagon. We needed more space, 5+2 seats = perfect. 250ci inline 6
Then came the early teen years, and we traded that in for a Nissan Prairie. We even used it for our early morning newspaper deliveries (5 routes, 3 brothers, parents drove)… and, later, my first (illegal… yay, the supermarket car park!) driving lessons.
Moving on, a (then) brand new '91 Nissan Pintara. 2.0L 5 speed, it took some serious abuse. 3 brothers on L and P-plates, an angry uncle, and a mother who never put more than $5 AU of petrol in the tank. A Gearbox and 2 clutches over 6 years.
Supplementary cars included my uncle’s 504 (my first RWD experience)
and my brother’s Datsun 240K
Then… I got my own wheels.
Side Note: There were other cars around the house (my dad being a qualified mechanic) that I barely recall including an LJ Torana, a Hillman Imp, and at least one FIAT. There was even an old Beetle in the back yard for a while, and two of dad’s associates were into aussie Valiant Chargers and Zephyrs… so he did some work on them.
last but not the last the paternal aunt’s fiat 1100 TV, this car was used from 1957 to 1987. (I was born in 1982)
Righty-o, long post incoming, figured I’d post an entire essay here while I have nothing much to do
When I was a literal child, my family owned 3 generations of the absolutely beautiful gorgeous sexy Mitsubishi Galant, my dad in particular owning two Galant Super Saloons (not at once though). One of them a 6th gen in a slightly faded red (which was sold a few years after I was born in around 2009-ish?) and the other a 7th gen in a gorgeous green colour. (images not of the exact car, but closest i could find)
My dad would always tell me how my grandad absolutely loved the Galants when he first got them, because they were fast, comfortable, and spacious. I loved the Galant as well because of how it looked and how spacious it was too. Also, technically didn’t ride in the back of this, because my dad let me sit on his lap a lot of times and let me move the steering wheel.
The one thing my dad complained about was how huge it is (for Philippine streets, anyway), and the abysmal fuel economy. But he absolutely loved how they pulled on the highway.
And did I mention, it had a manual, too? You won’t get a FWD midsize sedan with a manual anymore nowadays. (Unless you count the Civic as a midsize…)
In the Philippines, I’m pretty sure these would count as those “cool cars owned by cool titos”, and so I guess my dad was one of those cooler uncles among my cousins, and his coolness factor probably increased when he taught my eldest cousin how to drive in the green one.
Another interesting story with the green one, I’m not exactly sure if it was because of parking lot design, but when going into the basement parking of a certain shopping mall, the bumper would often scrape when hitting the ramp landing. So either the overhangs were incredibly long, or that parking area was just poorly designed for larger cars.
Unfortunately it had to be sold in the mid 2010s after gas prices began rising, and instead he bought a Corolla with a 1.3 engine, and later a Honda CR-V which became the first car I learned to drive in, which I wont get into because I’m writing more about the Galants.
On the other hand, my uncle bought and still owns an 8th gen Mitsubishi Galant in red, which I’m pretty sure he’s slowly installing a VR-4 bodykit on and was planning on engine swapping to a turbocharged 4G63 engine. Last I’ve heard of it, the engine (iirc, a V6, could be wrong), was slowly being eaten out by rats though, and it couldn’t break 100kmh on the freeway without some issue going on. Paint is still mint though (again not exact image but closest there is)
Now this car, I don’t have much stories about other than its reliability issues. It was like buying a car with 70% damage in Motornation or something. I remember coming home from school, and my uncle would park his car in our garage because they had to fix some issue with the car and my dad being more tech savvy and more of a mechanic than my uncle, would help him mend it.
But reliability issues aside, it was really cool when my dad, and my two other uncles would convoy during roadtrips in their Galants and my uncle’s Mazda Familia when that thing still ran. I have a picture of the two Galants at the beach though I’m probably not gonna be uploading them here for privacy reasons.

Actually, IMO the Galant have always been one of the most stylish japanese vehicles in its class, so I understand you.
Oh, for sure. The 80’s and 90’s Galants alway had a nice Japanese BMW vibe going for them. They kind of lost the plot in the 2000’s though. But, then again, Mitsubishi as a whole went a bit meh.
I forgot the 2000s model Galant since it was never sold here, the 1997 generation was the last one we got. So I sort of agree with you but then again, Mitsubishi overall got quite bland from the mid 00s onwards or so…
I had a 2000 model Galant as my 2nd car. It was solid enough. It still had some remnants of personality unlike the 2004 and later ones.
