What are you listening to right now?

My other favorite Black Sabbath song:

For comparison, here’s the same song in the Super NES port of Rock 'n Roll Racing:

And here’s what it sounds like on the Genesis/Mega Drive port:

RIP Ozzy!!!

Probably the best song in the entire Ridge Racer franchise:

The way it makes you feel unstoppable is especially fitting for the Ultimate GP (the secret Grand Prix available only on Hard difficulty) - and even more so if you’ve chosen the Rivelta Solare (one of the fastest cars available, but also among the most difficult to control), which I’m mentioning because one of the QFC62 entries shares its name with it.

One of my favorite songs. It discusses how people tend to compare real-world events to things they have encountered in media like TV or movies instead of pointing out how the art is itself a reference to real world experiences. We alienate ourselves from the experiences of our fellow humans and the artists who create our favorite works by reducing actual life to a reflection of media, when the original media was itself created as a deliberate expression of the artist’s own reflections on life. Instead of acknowledging that the artist has been here before and has something to say about us, people will often assume it was happenstance that an especially creative person invented a concept which later manifested in the real world.

“even if she see it, she will probably not believe it
If it ain’t bein’ projected in a wide screen theatre
If it spins on a reel, it’s gotta be real
But ‘real’ in real life just remind us of film
And now you saying something’s like a movie when it’s real
Like a film’s much realer than anything you feel”

This concept was originally described by Sergei Eisenstein, the famed Latvian Soviet director who made the 1925 film epic “Battleship Potemkin”.

“They say you learn a lot out there
How to scorch and burn
Gonna have to bury your friends
Then you’ll find it gets worse
Standing out on the ledge
With no way to get down
You start praying for wings to grow
Oh, baby, just let go”

Praying for those wings right now, folks…

A timeless classic of the early ‘90s dance music scene:

And here’s a later remix from 2008 for comparison:
