So, based on my drag racing city car hearse (yeah…) I made this, and somehow I feel there is a bug or glitch:
And half kilo of downforce? Not to mention other cars I made get to have -6 kg of downforce, that can’t be good.

The line going out of the graph is a bug, the calculation itself probably is accurate though. Read this to understand better what is happening:

The downforce “issue” is not an issue but pretty much reality. Check this out for reference:

So… it under steers a little till the rear goes out spinning like mad? Good, good.
While I don’t get how a car can achieve lift instead of downforce, if a Corvette does it I’m fine with my results
Thanks
I am pretty sure that it is because the natural shape of a car is similar to the shape of a plane wing, with a short, straight floor and a longer curved roof. the air passing over the car goes faster than the air moving along the bottom of the car, creating a lower pressure area at the top of the car, which generates lift. Happily the amount of lift created is small enough to be countered by adding spoilers and diffusers to the car.
I’m no physics professor, but 5-50 kilos of lift is probably not enough to lift 1,000+ kilos of car. I could be completely messing up the laws of gravity though, so don’t be sure.
5-50kg of lift is enough to lift 5-50kg of car
Well, now I know that my Peel P50 will take off at 200kmh. If it can reach that.

Apparently a New Beetle is so wing shaped that it generates about 300kg of lift at 190kph… Kinda scary.
I’ve been thinking that with a moderate amount of lift the car will “lose weight” at high speeds right? So while it won’t do any good once you need to turn, as long as the tyres still get enough grip, in a straight line that can make the car go faster!
Off to see how much lift I can achieve!
currently it’s limited to like -37kg or something, all bodies are the same right now, but won’t be in future iterations
More lift won’t make you go any faster, although if you’re getting that extra lift by removing downforce (taking off wings and stuff) that’ll reduce drag and make you go faster

One day I’ll make my Qirex… one day…
