WOSSOM: Join Anytime! (Speed Record Submissions now closed. Live competiton on the 12nd)

Weight doesn’t matter so much for a straight-line haul, but the Catelletto’s +14 quality advantage goes a long long way towards cleaning up its aero.

Other than at the last challenge where I solely relied on Automation’s stats, this time I actually tested the Tipo 48 in BeamNg and refined it over and over until I was satisfied with it’s performance. I’m not gonna spoil any numbers, but it’s unrealistically quick… and it needs a looooong time to get to max speed. Hopefully the runs will be long enough to see that happen  :crossed_fingers:

Going live soon! I’m still working around a few issues due to the computer’s formatting, and there’s a chance I won’t be able to activate Windows since I can’t find the CD with the activation key. (For you Gen Zs, a CD is a type of disk we used to store data back in the day!) Hopefully, this won’t cause any issues beyond the activation warning popping up during the live stream.

Alright, apparently I am dumb. I optimised the T48 on tarmac while the challenge takes place on a salt lake… :man_facepalming:
My bad. On tarmac the T48 reaches 400 kph airspeed.

I apologise for that mistake.

Huge congratulations to @moroza for the win!!

I know what a cd is :man_facepalming:
Also I think you may have misunderstood me, I slept through my alarms and didnt wake up in time to join at the beginning, I can handle 2+ hours of stream! TikTok hasnt killed my attention span that much (yet).

Hah, neither of us tuned for the salt flats, but for tarmac, where mine topped out at 340 and needed a bit of downforce to be controllable. Mind, that was ground speed, not airspeed; I wonder why the discrepancy unless there’s major wheelspin?

I expected the Catelletto to win, primarily because +14 aero is rather massive. I wonder if 1. the Catelletto ran any downforce, and 2. if the Jawad’s weight gave it the grip to actually put the power down, instead of just spraying salt everywhere?

:sob: But why does the exporter make it look so wrecked?

NB: my standard practice with a Beam export is to have a mannequin driver of several fixtures with their own paint slot, in this case set to transparent just before export.

Excellent challenge! I may launch a new brand to improve my sales numbers, though, built on the base of a certain French booze limo.

  1. Nope, no downforce. AT ALL. On my first build I tried hard race tires, which caused the T48 to have wheelspin when coming close to 390 (due to the massive lift at the rear). I did not want to create drag so I added grip by using medium race tires. It was enough grip to scratch the 400 barrier. Also I used all the engineering power I had to move as much weight as possible to the rear of the car, but I did not count the salt flats into the equation. Some downforce would have surely helped…

I will post the exact numbers of lift once I get back from work.

  1. Yes the weight probably helped. Spraying salt everywhere is exactly what my T48 was doing.

I hope I learn from my mistakes

It’s yours, fair & square :wink::+1:

Do you really consider to manhandle such a beauty for the next races/challenges? :astonished:

Edit:

The lift at 400 kph would be way higher, but by Automations calculations, it wouldn’t go that fast…

Just messing with you. I know you know what a CD is. Maybe not a floppy disk, though. Haha!

It’s not his fault he’s not old enough to know about the Dubstep we had to listen to, to connect to the internet.

Thank you all once again for participating—I had a fantastic time! I’ll be competing in an online sim racing tournament tomorrow, so I’ll likely post the blog update with our official results in two days. As for the next deadlines, I mentioned in the livestream that I’ll be pushing them back a bit to focus on my upcoming surgery. With the holidays approaching, the new deadlines will probably fall after that. By then, hopefully, we’ll have some exciting new features ready to share!

Some feedback - your voiceover is a bit too quiet compared to the engine sound and would benefit from bumping up the volume slightly so we can hear you better

EDIT: Also @rafles - could you please clarify how the next factory car submission works - should we be submitting another car? and updated version of the same car? Is the year still set as 1946? Does the previous car count for anything in the next round?

Yeah he said well be submitting new cars still 1946 for the year. (The second deadline i mean)

Guess I needed to make mine a bit more drivable, I did test it on a salt flat but if you let the wheels start spinning they just never stop thanks to its horrible torque curve.

It says quality slider is 0 on factory cars, is that the maximum quality or is negative quality also banned?

Thank you for the feedback, Machalel! I’ll work on improving that.

Everyone, I’ve been struggling with pain over the past few days. My next surgery is scheduled for Monday, and unless I make a sudden improvement, I’ll need to delay posting the blog and instructions until late next week. Please don’t worry— as I mentioned earlier, the deadlines will be postponed until after the holidays, so you’ll have plenty of time.

To start clarifying a few points:

  • You can submit one car per company per factory car submission deadline. This can be a facelift, an improvement, or an entirely new model.
  • Keep in mind that the more models you have, the more saturated your market will become, increasing the risk of “cannibalization” between your cars. If you’d like to remove a model to avoid this, just let me know.
  • You can make one competition car for each model you submit.
  • Quality bonuses are calculated per model, while overall scores are calculated per company.

Regarding the next competition:

  • It will feature a time trial at the old Monza circuit, including the iconic banked turns, as well as a tight city street rally on BeamNG’s Italy map.
  • Strategy tip: If you already have a large factory car, consider using it at Monza and building a smaller car as the base for your rally car—or vice versa. If your current car is small, aim for a medium or large car this time around.

I hope that helps clear up some questions. I’ll get back to work as soon as I start feeling better.

It hasn’t been easy, guys. Over the past few days, I’ve had to rely on a couple of morphine shots just to keep the pain manageable. I’m doing my best to recover and get back on track, but if that doesn’t happen, I’ll make sure to organize the spreadsheets and share them with you. This way, you can continue the challenge if you’d like. I’ll also provide one of you with my Wix account login and password.

A word of advice for the younger folks: always prioritize stretching, or you might end up with a body that feels like a twisted beetle chassis by the time you hit 43.

The image shows the needles used to burn my cervical nerves, and the red area highlights where my C2 and C3 vertebrae have essentially fused into one.

You guys probably have no idea, but you’ve done a lot of good for the well-being of someone living with chronic pain for decades.

take care of yourself man. fused discs are no fun amigo.

Ooof! That definitely sucks, sorry to hear.

I hope everything goes well :S

This.

I very much hope you get better, or better yet, cured (is that a possibility?). Meanwhile, is WOSSOM suspended altogether?

Hey everyone,
Sorry for the disappearing act. I’ve been going from one doctor to another lately. Just to clarify: yes, the challenge is suspended until after the holidays. If I’m unable to return, I’ll hand over control to you all as promised.
