2002 Mont Royal MV EL
The MV received a substantial facelift in 2002 to update it with the brand’s more angular design direction for the new millennium. This included fully revised front and rear end styling and an updated interior while under the hood remained unchanged. The main mechanical change was a shift to a RWD layout instead of the previous FWD in order to better compete with European luxury models. This was made possible with little fuss due to a driveshaft tunnel that already existed for the AWD models.
This meant the same 3.4L V6 producing 209 hp and 216 lb-ft. In the entry level EL trim with a 4-speed automatic, this meant a 0-100 km/h sprint in 8.1s and 23 MPG. The main thing reducing the weight in the EL trim was the absence of the hydropneumatic suspension found on other trim levels.
