By 1985, the long running Sisten Gran Eagle personal-luxury coupe was running on its last legs. With a downsized design and engines, undesirable styling and outdated technologies, the Gran Eagle didn’t really find any customers. This is when the development for the Corsica Altair began. With a young and fresh name, it was meant to be a return to form for the volume-selling personal luxury car. And it actually sort of managed to achieve that. A bit. Slightly.


Corsica Altair

from 1991-1998

The Corsica Altair made it’s debut in 1991 and went on sale the same year. It is named after the brightest star in the constellation of Aquila and the twelfth brightest star in the night sky.



Because Grandpa doesn’t care about trim-levels, every Altair was came in the Exclusive V8 form. The Exclusive came packed with the all-new GTA2, being the first models to include this engine. It made 252 horsepower when new and included highly advanced technologies called pushrods. Standard equipment included a high-end Phelps cassette deck, electronically adjustable seats, traction control and a sick rear spoiler.

239 km/h was the top speed, 0-100km/h was achieved in 7.5 seconds and the average fuel economy was 14.2 MPG. Because it was American, every model came equipped with a 4-speed Automatic, including the next version below.


Grandpa’s retirement gift got fast in 1993 as Corsica rolled out the Altair Supersport. Instead of the 4.5, under the hood now was a 5.5 Powerblock V8, producing 398 horsepower and 517 Nm of torque. The top speed was electronically limited to 250 km/h and the 0-100 time went down to 6.1 seconds.

Outside, the entire car was lowered by about 6 millimeters and a cool and good, bigger rear spoiler was added. The lower front grille was made more aggressive, the rear bumper received some fake vents and the tail lights… got two additional plastic strips. Two exhaust tips melted into four and surprisingly, a glass sunroof came as standard. It was reported that nearly 88% of all Altair Supersports sold were white.



The Altair received a mild facelift for 1995. The '91 GTA2 was replaced with a newer version, now outputting 257 horsepower. The main design change was featured on the front bumper - the foglights and bottom grille were completely redesigned. Elsewhere, the mirrors were replaced and the tail lights featured a slightly different design.

The Altair was considered a success by the management at Sisten as it sold quite strongly in the first years. After the facelift however, sales were down by nearly 50% and the Altair was finally discontinued in 1998. The Altair ended up being the final personal luxury coupe to come out of the Sisten Motoring Corporation.

In 1992, two models would be launched from Corsica, the first of which being the C900 sedan.

Corsica C900

from 1992-1998

After the 1981 launch of Corsica, the C900 full-size sedan started development in 1983. The name comes from a naming scheme which would have been used on every Corsica passenger car. This scheme however stuck around for just two models; the C900 and later the C700.

Kenneth Carmichael and his team were given the task of designing this model and the final version was frozen in 1988. A sleek and low design was chosen as the main design theme, and that stuck with it until production. The front of the C900 features the main grille inside the bumper, aiding aerodynamics and making the vehicle look more futuristic.


As a successor to the old Oakwood, the engineers and designers made sure to make this model highly more advance. Underneath the bodyshell lies a monocoque chassis, with MacPherson strut suspension in the front and Multilink at the rear. Unlike the Oakwood, just 5 seats can be found inside, a choice that was inspired by German and Japanese full-size sedans.

A fatal flaw with C900 owners has always been the rust. Due to the Sisten Motoring Corporation cheapening out, the body and chassis are made of cheap metal with just a slight hint of rustproofing.


Three trim levels were available through its lifetime: The V8, the Exclusive and the Classic.

Standard equipment on the V8 was a sunroof, a premium looking cassette deck as well as a 4- speed TranShift automatic gearbox and front foglights.

The Exclusive trim made the option of having a wood finish on the dashboard standard. By 1994, an aluminium finish was also available to choose. Other standard features include power adjusted mirrors and an automatic interior boot release. The gearbox and engine remained the same.

The high-end trim, the Classic, came standard in a black color, though other colors were on offer. The three panel design in the front between the headlights was now painted chrome and on the sides, each wheel had whitewalls. The whitewalls were removed for the 1997 model year. Inside, the cassette deck was now even more high-tech and soon, a CD player came standard alongside the cassette player. Each seat was made of either velour or leather, buyer’s choice.

Each version came with the same engine and transmission. For the engine, it was the same modified version of the GTA2 engine also used in the Altair. Outputting 252 horsepower and 376 Nm of torque, 0-100 km/h was achieved in 7.3 seconds. The transmission was a 4-speed TranShift unit mentioned above. Nothing special about it really. Unlike many of its contemporaries, the C900 still stuck to a rear-wheel drive platform.


Sales of the C900 were considered a success, being the second best selling vehicle in their fleet by 1994. It met its end in 1998 however, when the smaller, mid-size C700 took its place.

1992 would be the first year where in Corsica would launch 2 new models. After the C900, the Yosemite SUV followed with its announcement just a few months later.

The C900 looks quite boxy for a 90s car, but I can forgive you for making it resemble a rolling brick because of the sheer amount of standard equipment offered on it. If I am not mistaken, the body you used was introduced in the open beta build.

I may be biased but I think it looks great. I dig the whitewalls. That body the car is based on lasted until 1997 so it’s believable enough for an American barge at the time imo, even if the last few years might look dated.

I don’t think the C900 is too boxy. Shape is similar to the '92 Caddy Seville. Those years (early '90s) were the transition from boxy cars to jelly-bean shape.

1992 would be a hugely successful year for the now 10+ year old Corsica. Earlier in the year, the C900 sedan went into production and became a decent sales success for them. However, the next model from 1992 would become the best-selling car for Corsica starting from 1995 and staying at that position for nearly every year to follow.

Development of a new, light-truck platform started development in 1985 and would be finished by the 1992 announcement.


Corsica Yosemite I

Introduced in 1992 for the following model year, the 1st generation Yosemite was a big leap for Corsica. With it being an SUV, the supposed “sporty” image of the brand was on the edge of fading out - despite that, it was still a momentous sales success for them. Being one of the first modern American SUV’s to go on sale, it gained an advantage in front of a lot of the competitors who had yet to put out a big Utility Vehicle such as this one.

The Yosemite I, along its stablemates from Sisten and Taluvec, rode on the DE65 platform. Improvements included better off-road readiness and a more compact design. This platform, a successor to the older DA65, was once again a success for the Sisten Motoring Corporation. Among the three versions, the Sisten became the leading seller with the Corsica following closely behind in 2nd and the more niche and upmarket Taluvec model following in 3rd. These three models helped Sisten get out of some of the financial worries it had gathered up during the 70’s and 80’s, but this wouldn’t last for long.

The three models were manufactured at the Sisten plant in East Detroit, alongside the second generation Cheetah and the Sisten Sunburst. Production lasted there until 2000 when the next generation models were introduced. However, the production equipment was carried into a plant in Mexico where the original Yosemite continued production until 2012 under the name “Corsica Yosemite Classic”.

A total of 1,596,388 first generation Yosemite’s were produced in the US, not counting the later Classic versions.


For the duration of its lifetime, 4 trims were available from launch with a 5th one added in 1995. Two engines were offered and just one transmission option covered every engine.

The base model was the El Capitan, offered with just the CET7 2.8 liter V6. Making 170 horsepower, the 0-60 time was 10.5 seconds. Standard equipment included a PHELPS cassette deck and ABS, Traction Control became an option for the '94 model year.

One step up was the Mojave trim. Essentially the El Capitan trim with a 4.5 V8, most of the equipment stayed the same. A two-tone paintjob also now became standard and the suspension was stiffened up slightly.

The Mojave Deluxe trim came standard with traction control alongside some other standard features. Essentially being the mid-line version, the Mojave Deluxe was consistently the best selling version of the Yosemite.

The highest end version was the High Pass. Still using the same V8 engine and 4-speed automatic gearbox, equipment additions included a better and more expensive PHELPS cassette deck with 7 speakers. The wheels were now alloys and not steelies. Additionally, the brake sizes were also increased to keep up with the weight.

In 1995, the R A D (terms may apply) Yosemite Surf was introduced. A base Mojave was colored in beautiful 90’s teal blue and livery was added to the rear and sides. A roofbox was added and that’s about it, really. The Surf was in production from 1995 to 1999.


When the production of the DE65 platform ended in 2000, the tooling was sent from Detroit to the Sisten factory in Ramos Arizpe. Some design elements were changed before the model went into production, such as a new front grille and the addition of an outboard spare wheel with an integrated license plate. In 2001, the factory started making and selling these Yosemites under the Yosemite Classic name in parts of South America.

The engine was modified slightly to meet emissions regulations, this would be the last car to use the GV 4.5 liter V8. The Classic was made until 2012 when it was discontinued.

Sisten and Taluvec have joined the Corsica thread yay


Following from 1973, the Sisten Corporation kept on downsizing their models. This included the Sisten Country Cruiser, the wagon equivelant of the GS full-size sedan. Starting production in 1979, the sixth generation Country Cruiser lasted until 1991 after it was replaced by the seventh generation model.


1979 SISTEN COUNTRY CRUISER

The sixth generation Country Cruiser is based on the T-platform, sharing it with the higher-end Taluvec Custom Callahan, Grand Callahan and the aforementioned Sisten GS. A total of 4,945,971 units of the T-platform were made.

As the Taluvec was the high-end model, a base Country Cruiser started at $6500 and went up to $8000 when fully optioned out.

Due to the domestic wagon business starting to fade out, the designers made sure not to take risks while designing the '79 model. One part where the designers took influence from the imports was the placement of the front badge, which was set to the right of the grille. A long standing Country Cruiser tradition, an integrated exterior indicator display was removed. The wood on the sides of the car was a standard feature and as such, could not be de-optioned - however, some workshops did offer to remove it later.

From 1979, two V8 engines were available: the 5.0 liter TRE and the 5.8 liter Quadra. Both make a combined horsepower rating of 251. The 5.0 engine features a 0-62 time of 10.5 seconds and achieves 9 mpg while the 5.8 achieves 0-62 in 9.4 seconds and also gets 9 mpg.

In 1983, a 4.0 liter Inline-6 was added to the lineup. With 92 horsepower, it gets to 62mph in 16.5 seconds. This option was discontinued for 1990, before the final model year.

Every model took advantage of a 4-speed automatic.

The sixth gen. Country Cruiser signaled the downfall of the domestic wagon. Sales were down from previous models and the following seventh generation model was made from just 1991 to 1994 after it was discontinued due to low sales. Today however, these models are gaining value quickly since they’re getting rarer by the day. Also hipsters.

Sisten and Hokuto Have Teamed Up on a Global Electric Car Platform

Hokuto and Sisten both announced yesterday a new electric car platform, called the SHEP. The platform has been developed by the two companies with more than $5 billion invested into the project from both sides. SHEP will be the basis of all upcoming electric cars from Sisten and Hokuto, spoke a representative from Sisten, with plans to manufacture 400,000 vehicles using the SHEP platform over five years.

The first known model to use this platform will be a crossover SUV from Corsica, most likely to be announced at the upcoming Frankfurt Auto Show in Germany. Announcing the new model in Europe will be an important step for the brand as sales have been slow after their return to the European market. The highest priority market for the new SUV however will most likely be China, where sales of Corsica and Taluvec models have been booming as of recently.

Seeing the slow progress on EV’s from Sisten, this partnership is a huge step for them.

At the New York International Auto Show in 2013, Sisten announced the 10th generation of the S-Series with the all-new S1500 and S3500 High Duty pickup trucks.

The S1500 line starts with the 2-door SXC model. Equipped with a 3.8 Powerjet V6 and a 6-speed Automatic transmission, the SXC starts at $29,000. Standard equipment includes a 4,2" screen reserved for the radio and Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control and front foglights.

The SXE model is a direct upgrade to the SXC adding chrome bumpers, a 6" screen with EDGE infotainment system and the 4x4 powertrain. The SXE starts at $31,560 and has the same engine/gearbox as the SXC with the V6 producing 321 horsepower and 387 Nm of torque.

The 2013 S1500 runs on the updated ST TF3 platform, which is shared with the 8th generation Sisten Tenaya and Taluvec Courser full-size SUVs.

The LXE is the lowest-level 4 door model. The drivetrain is the same as the SXE, standard equipment features bigger, 18" wheels, a rear-window defroster and the Power Slide© rear window. Leather seats become an option here as well as alloy wheels, a 5.0 V8 is also optional. The LXC starts at $37,915.

One step above the LXC is the LXS from $45,000. Safety features such as Active Trailer Park Assist and a 360-degree camera come standard, alongside a bigger center screen and leather seats. The 5.0 Turbulence V8 is now standard, with it making 406 horsepower and 491 Nm of torque.

The double wishbone front- and leaf rear suspension has been carried over from the previous S1500 with minor updates for improved stability and carrying ability, this means the 2013 model can carry over 4000lbs of cargo.

Ranch Master is the range-topper of the S1500, starting at $62,050. The 5.0 V8 is equipped as standard alongside a sturdier 6-speed automatic gearbox. Alloy wheels, a heated steering wheel, adaptive cruise control and the active park assist are now also standard. The exterior body cladding is body coloured and the window trim is painted chrome.



Along with the S1500, the new S3500 High Duty also went on sale in 2013. The S3500 features less-aggressive styling than its smaller brother, focusing more on utility and workmanship.

The line starts with the LXC. Starting at $38,000, it’s equipped with a 2x4 drivetrain and like all S3500 models, a 6.1 Supertorque V8. Cloth seats might be included within the price.

The second trim level is LXE, with a price of $39,980. 4x4 is standard from the LXE onwards. This trim includes a 7" infotainment screen with EDGE, a chrome front-end and LED lamps in the rear bed.

The LXS is the mid-level range, starting from $46,155. Cruise control and a two-tone paint scheme are standard. The two-tone applies to the lower body cladding, which can be 5 different colors. A leather interior can be optioned.

The 2013 S3500 rides on the same platform as the previous High Duty, due to cost savings. This also means the suspension setup has been maintained from the older model. The 2013 model can carry up to 4000 pounds.

The high-end Ranch Master of the S3500 starts at $62,100 and includes features such as a leather and wood interior, heated steering wheel, beige or body-colored cladding and adaptive cruise control with emergency braking. Alloy wheels are standard, steel wheels can be optioned.

The Ranch Master is the most popular trim of the S3500, making up nearly half of all sales. Overall sales of the longrunning S-series trucks have been strong as ever, with 2016 being the best year for the S1500 of all time; it also continues to be the best-selling vehicle in the Sisten lineup.

The clear standout in 2019 was Asia. With new compact models from Sisten and SUVs from Taluvec having been introduced throughout the year, sales increased by more than 30 percent. The Sisten Sunburst compact sedan gathered more than 190,000 sales in China alone, being the highest selling Sisten model in all of Asia.

The re-introduction of Corsica for the European market has been a success. Despite the opening of only 12 dealerships throughout Europe, 534 models were sold in total in 2019. The Corsica Cheetah made up nearly 50 percent of all Corsicas sold in Europe.

The introduction of the Taluvec Aileron SUV and the continuing popularity of the Avigate and Courser SUVs brought considerable increases to Taluvecs earnings this year. As we stride towards bringing the consumers what they want and demand, the outlook for 2020 is good.

SISTEN PACIFIC Mk. I
from 1989 to 1997

In the 1980’s, the minivan was unleashed onto the world and became a popular choice for families of all sizes. Minivans replaced station wagons as the go-to choice for family transportation and in 1985, Sisten introduced their Starcruiser model. As it was based on the platform shared with the Vantango full-size van, the Starcruiser was noted for its truck-like features and in turn was not as successful as its competitors among families. Fleet companies loved it though.

Work on the successor began around 1986 based around the new FE platform, derived from the full-size GS sedan. Along with the similar platform, the engines and gearbox would also be derived from GS in order to checks notes “give the minivan more normal car-like properties”.

The first generation Sisten Pacific was unveiled in 1989 and started production the same year for the 1990 model year. A rebadged version, the Corsica Solar GTS served as an upmarket version of Pacific and went on sale the same year.

Engines were shared with the GS, which wouldn’t be announced for another year - this led some to consider the GS to be a sedan with the engine from a van. Sisten management loved that. The engine, a 3.0 Freefire V6 making 158 horsepower was mated to a 4-speed automatic gearbox which would be updated in 1995. Unusual for the segment, the Pacific incorporated a longitudinal RWD setup.

A digital gauge cluster was an option on both SE and LE models. A driver side airbag, cassette player and air conditioning were standard on the base SE model - LE added a cassette changer and an optional CD player along with other options.

A facelift in 1995 introduced the luxury Limited model which came equipped with a passenger side airbag and CD player as standard. Alloy wheels were also included along with leather seats, which were an option on LE and unavailable on SE.

Bud Johnson, the designer of the Pacific, envisioned a new mechanism for opening the rear sliding doors (since the early design concepts for the van because what kind of an idiot would forget to put rails on a minivan amirite). Trademarked as the SmartSlide™ system, this mechanism allowed the rear doors to slide open without any visible outside rails. SmartSlide™ was however prone to fail and due to its complicated design, it was also expensive to maintain and replace. This mechanism has not appeared on any other Sisten vehicle.

Mainly intended for fleet sales, the Sisten Pacific TC panel van was produced from 1991 until 1996. Originally intended to be sold as the Pacific Tango after the full-size Vantango, the TC was offered mainly to fleet services but a private customer could place a special order on one at a Sisten dealer.

The TC was offered with the same 3.0 V6 and 4-speed auto and curiously. As the TC was discontinued in 1996, it did not receive the later 3.1 engine.

1995 brought with itself a facelift. The main update was the replacement of the 3.0 Freefire V6 with the all-new 3.1 GTY V6, making its debut in the Pacific. This new engine increased the horsepower from 158 to 183, achieveing 0-100 km/h in 8.8 seconds and averaging around 20-21 MPG. It was one of the first engines from Sisten to also introduce variable valve timing, named VariaSystem™ here. An updated version of the 4-speed automatic gearbox was also introduced.

The front- and side indicators were recoloured to translucent and at the rear, the indicators were made red. The rear Sisten badge was recoloured from red to black. On the inside, a passenger airbag was made standard. Another option made standard was the driver-side rear door, which became an option for the 1994MY. These updates bumped up the price noticeably and given that the model was nearing its end of the lifecycle, the updated Pacific underperformed compared to its rivals of the time.

Production of the Mk. I Pacific ended in 1997, the Mk. II model was unveiled the next year.
