Tokyo Motor Show 2019

The All-New 3rd Generation Tanaka Atlantis for 2020

For the first time in history, Tanaka will have a dedicated reveal room in the Tokyo Motor Show. All the journalists went inside the room and wait. Then, 4 girls open the cover to reveal 4 cars. Introducing, the all-new Tanaka Atlantis.

From left to right: Tanaka Atlantis 2.4 B, 2.4 G, 3.0 G and 3.5 S

The Atlantis has always been Tanaka’s mid-sized sedan. With the previous generation produced all the way from 2010, it is clear that the market and us demanded a new generation.

Design

Again using this body and design language, it is a hatchback/fastback sedan. The front is similar to the recently-revealed Tanaka Aventis at the 2019 Frankfurt Auto Show. But some revisions were made to differentiate the car such as the front lower grille. But still retains the big front Tanaka grille visually connected to the headlights. Like the new Tanaka design language, the door handle is visually part of the side trim piece. The fuel cap is right beside the taillight to blend in even more. Again, the blacktail design still applies to this. The black roof with part of the trunk being black makes it look virtually one piece.

Interior

Being a Tanaka, the interior is also a high expectation. For the 2.4 G, standard synthetic leather was used with piano black trim and a Tanaka Premium Infotainment System used. For the 2.4 G and 3.0 L, premium real leather was used with piano black trim with a Tanaka Premium Infotainment System used. For the 2.4 L and 3.0 L, same interior as the G models, but with wood trim and a Tanaka Premium HUD system together with the Tanaka Premium Infotainment System. For the 3.5 S, it uses a brushed aluminium trim with the Tanaka Premium Infotainment System. All trims come with ambient lighting.

Engineering

It shares the same chassis as the Aventis, but was made longer. Of course, AWD is standard across all trim models for easier control and all-weather capability. Like the Aventis, the usual torque converter advanced automatic transmission is replaced by a DCT to reduce power loss and increase fuel economy.
