Will you be getting Car Mechanic Simulator 2018?

With some huge discount, maybe. 2015 was good for channeling my inner Edd China every once in a while.

Have you tried owning a car?

And thatā€™s a routine, and Im not a mechanic. Iā€™d rather this than spend my time doing that same thing in a game.

I have. Taking the diff out to replace seals and bushings, Mercedes Specialist charged ā‚¬50 for it along with replacing some other miscellaneous bits and bobs not in that particular area. Itā€™s the joy of living in a third world country.

Are you going to call me not a true enthusiast for not working on my own car? Itā€™s fine. I donā€™t mind being an untrue enthusiast if it means I donā€™t have to look down on others.

I donā€™t care whether you are one way or the other, but playing a game because you want to work on a car instead of for example just doing minor maintenance or detailing on a car that you own, and then paying somebody to do what you could do yourself just sounds plain stupid to me

Wellā€¦by that standard, you just said that most of the ā€˜simulatorā€™ games are stupid because you could just do it irl.

Itā€™s fine. You donā€™t know I am personally so go ahead and use all of your assumption. Itā€™s okay. It is the internet after all, and on the internet nobody know who we are.

I read threads such as yourā€™s [hoonicomp] a lot. Theyā€™re things I wish I have the resource, will power and general knowledge to do. I am envious of those who can achieve things such as that. Would you say stop reading those because itā€™s also stupid? No? Hell, with that logic, me spending time replying to this thread sounds plain stupid as well. I should be going out and do engine swaps and coil overs conversion and megasquirt injection tuning and such instead of typing shits that have no meaning. No? Yeah it sounds pretty ridiculous to me.

One thing Iā€™ve learnt is that never assume the others are in exactly the same situation as you are. And that theyā€™re the lesser because of it. Enjoy the life youā€™re having. And the others are enjoying theirā€™s.

Please? Car people already have enough nemesis ready to bring down the whole thing. We donā€™t need any more friendly fire.

God no, I hope I do not have to buy my own Boeing 737 because I can just do the real thing instead of playing MS Flight Simulatorā€¦

Iā€™ll go build that spaceship, take part in world championship soccer, win the title of street king in a street racing community, right after I build my car manufacturing plantā€¦ itā€™s a car mechanic simulator. Your requirements to do it irl is ā€œcarā€.

@conan. All you needed for that diff job is a jack, set of wrenches and a Google. Nobody started out as a mechanical stig. Still, car mechanic simulator simulates a simple activity, you can try it irl. So to me that game is not worth any time

A few euro would buy you a goat as well. Would you?

I always wonderedā€¦ Does that goat simulator even remotely simulate what a goat is like???

More serious question: for a mechanical noob who doesnā€™t have space in their garage for a restoration project nor the time to acquire one, does the Mechanic Simulator at all help with teaching how to get into these things?

The cars I buy are very similar to goats, do thatā€™s a yes

@strop only very crude basics. It doesnā€™t really explain what does what, only roughly how to replace it

If you canā€™t spin a spanner to save your arse then itā€™s a good game, at least in the idea that it shows the basics of working on a car.
That being said, you can also get at any bolt on the car with ease, My Summer Car (the game) makes it a bit harder to get at the bolts and is a far superior car builder since you actually have to tune and service the car, but it canā€™t replicate the real effort put into ripping the starter motor out of a FWD Nissan thatā€™s sitting on a pallet and 3 blocks of wood inside a shipping container while a New Zealander sprays you with a hose while heā€™s cleaning his Dune Buggy.
(And yes, that happened)

The answer to that question simply is no. Itā€™s far too simplified for that. Unless youā€™re really starting from absolute zero then maybe. Doesnā€™t stop it being a good hour or two for me when thereā€™s nothing else to do. Hench why I might buy it if thereā€™s a huge discount. (And by huge I meanā€¦ like 70-80% off).

Try My Summer Car if you want something a bit more challenging and authentic.

Itā€™s about as realistic as Surgeon Simulator. Maybe that illustrate it better for strop. :stuck_out_tongue:

CLEAR!!! Wham Wham Wham

*Your requirements to do it irl is ā€œcarā€, ā€œmechanical knowledgeā€ and ā€œconfidenceā€.

If I took apart a diff Iā€™m not sure if it would go back together. With simulators, thereā€™s no real consequences if you fuck up.

Iā€™m not a big fan of simulators as well, and I used to giggle at people playing farming or truck driving simulators (because I live on a farm and I have multiple truck drivers in my family) but I can see why it might be a fun game for some people.

And I also do respect and to a degree envy people doing project cars and stuff. But Iā€™m 100% sure if I would start such thing with my mechanical knowledge it would end up as an unfinished project on ebay.

Having tried the previous car mechanic sims, IMHO the issue is that they tend to be very repetitive.

Their DLC strategy is also not really great.

If you ask me, my summer car is a much more enjoyable game if you want to assemble car parts. It involves more adjusting and adds the fun part of driving your car with proper physics (and probably dying in the process)

Well, I just got done playing it for roughly an hour, and I gotta say, the gameplay is quite involving. You really have to do quite a bit more in this game than in the previous CMS games, even for the simple tasks at the beginning of the game. One of the first jobs involves swapping tires, and you actually have to use a tire machine to separate and reinstall tires, and you canā€™t put them back on the car until you balance them on the balancer.

Itā€™s not perfect, though. The tutorial doesnā€™t really teach much, as you basically walk through a max-level garage to see all the tools available. Itā€™s also extremely graphically demanding on GPUs. Even with my RX 480, I gotta turn down the settings to Low to get anywhere near 100 FPS with only one car in the basic garage (since I play on a 144 Hz monitor), and it basically maxes out my GPU, ramping up the fans higher than any other game I play. And mouse acceleration is annoying, and you canā€™t turn it off (yet).

EDIT: Plus, 10% off sale with 10% off coupon for owning CMS 2015 is really nice

I have been having fun with the game so far, but it still needs some stuff some example are: sandbox mode, Hot keys, visual/performance upgrades and engine swaps. The new features i like include are the engine lift, new wheel system, new paint system(Need a Little More work), Warehouse, and once itā€™s fixed the shopping list.
