1973 Rally di Fruinia [FINISHED]

Finally I have ready my first 4 cars for the rally, now I present them:

C1 : F.E.A.B 141 1140cc Rallye Team Ali-Taglia n°5

F.E.A.B 141 represents a popular common car presented in 1973 shortly before the start of the Rally. With the only available engine of displacement of 1140cc four cylinders in line, two valves, it is presented in 2 different configurations, C (comfort), E (economy), with small variations also in the engine technical settings.
The version presented is Rally configuration, and in addition to having a new exhaust system, the engine has been upgraded directly from the parent company under the guidance of Team Ali-Size, owner of the car at the Rally. Ali ', owner of the Team is a Persian man who made his fortune with a company of pre-cooked pizzas.

C3 F.E.A.B 181 1600cc Rallye Team F.E.A.B. n ° 6

Model 181 Represents the sports coupe of the House. On the market there are 2 versions, 1600 in model S (sport) and C, the model 2000 only in S versions, is the maximum expression of 181.The particularity of this car is in use for the first time of glass fiber by of the manufacturer on standard models. The engine is always a four-cylinder in-line, with 4 valves per cylinder, developed here by the official team.

C5 ARPOS Corvina n ° 17 3000cc V6 Team Arpos Scuderia

In 1973 L Arpos decided to market a medium-powered sports car to compete with the high contentendi in that category. Thus the Corvina was developed, using the base of the Agata chassis, which came out on the market in 1965. The car present at the Rally is still a laboratory car, although it has all the technical characteristics present in the production car. The only exception and source of Test still regards the engine present on this car. The house is in fact evaluating whether to mount a 2500 displacement or 3000cc present on this version in a superquadro version, ie with bore and similar stroke in size. 3000 v6 60 ° 4 valves per cylinder is the corvina heart.

C6 KOPO Dakota n ° 90 5700 V8 90th Team Star And Stripes (Private Team)

The Star and Stripes Team is an American racing team that likes to participate in rallies with cars made in the USA. For this competition it is presented with a Kopo Dakota LSA modified by the same Team under construction and with work on the engine. The Dakota (available freedownload tread KOPO) is a good basic car and the technicians have worked on the engine to give it mainly more engine revs for more sprint use, as well as a 5-speed gearbox.

Thanks, Have fun

Well, what’d you know? Got another entry coming along, so I’ll claim #41 please. Thanks.

TBA Motorsport

Tannberg Automobile Motorsport is going to send 5 cars to the 1973 Rally di Fruinia qualifications.

C2 and C3 class:

The Genius (MK II) RS

Already known as a good road car with a sporty nature, it has yet to prove itself in a competitive environment.
Two cars are going to be send to the qualifications.

Nr 37 powered by a 1.6L I4 engine and Nr 38 powered by a 1.3L I4 engine. Both engines derive from the standart engine, which was designed to go up to 2L capacity, just with different displacement and fine tuning.

Both cars at the test track

C4 and C5 class:

The Arcus RS

The Arcus is the spiritual successor to the Gladius. It is not yet decided if the car will be sold to the public in a road going version, or if there will only be a small number of cars for homologation reasons.
It´s mid engined platform is adaptable to different motorsport applications, Rally aswell as track racing.
For the Rally di Fruina, the cars will be powered by either a 2.0 L or a 3.0 L Boxer engine.

C6 class:

The Arius V8

The Arius was never intended to be a race or rally car, more a luxurious road barge. However, a rally version was prepared just a year before the Rally di Fruinia for a different event which, unfortunately, the car was not finished in time. This Rally version could quickly be adapted to the Rally di Fruinia Homologations, so it is going to participate in the qualifications anyways.
It is powered by a 3.5 V8 engine producing 213 bhp. We shall see if that is competitive or not…

Further details, including the drivers, will be announced if a car actually makes it past the qualifications to the real Rally.

Well, it’s time; on October 26, I reveal my car of category C6… ominous message of impeding doom and also failure

Darwin Automotive Brothers

C6: '70 D-A-B Owlette Esse

Little is known about this oddball North-American car company. Monia Darwin and her older brother Sonny Darwin set up DAB in 1968, and the Owlette remains the company’s sole vehicle. A classic American pickup, the Owlette was somehow successful, perhaps to its strong utility qualities.

However, when the fuel crisis came knocking, DAB decided to shut down their entire company, as opposed to reworking their trusty pickup. The already-baffled workers were only further baffled, when the brothers showed up on a Fruinian newspaper, announcing the entry of a green Owlette Esse in the 1973 Rally di Fruinia.

Bearing the number 765, this strange pickup is based on the most powerful version of all; the Esse. But while it comes with a 429c.i. V8 engine, its pedestrian tune is more “Old McDonalds Egg Farm Run” than “beating Markku Alen at Fafe”. And that isn’t the most archaic aspect of this car; on the way to the rally, the Owlette broke down. A fellow engineer, presumably a member of the Hugi-Anhultz Rally Enterprise, was “convinced” to work on the car in exchange for transportation to the team’s meeting point.

What confronted the poor engineer was something out of a horror movie. A pushrod V8, mated to a suspension setup which consisted of nothing but live axles. In short, a small recipe for a very big disaster. Eventually the limp Owlette was taken to a near car shop, where some parts were procured to make the car at least predictable on Fruinia’s tough dirt roads.

Thus, somehow, this incredibly dangerous car, made on a whim by two people who clearly didn’t know what they were doing, survived the journey to the Rally. Even with a blower on the hood, the Owlette was accepted by the race’s organizers mainly because the blower is not actually connected to anything, therefore making it a very pretty paperweight!

But perhaps there is ingenuity behind the insanity. In a class where cars range from experiemental concepts to FWD muscle cars, perhaps the Owlette can strike rich for a company with no home or common sense…?

And here it is, my final entry for this massive rally event. Again, many thanks go to @Elizipeazie for helping out with tuning and finding a design language for a car I made on a whim.

Now if you excuse me, I have an appointment to attend to in the UK

The cigarette-reeked air never had a moment’s rest as the fans blew on high-blast in the Arizona heat. In the room sat a man getting his tobacco fix in his office. The mahogany desk was worn at the edge facing the seat, from years of the boss kicking his feet up on it, most likely. A tense intern walks in the doorway. “Come in” boomed the boss. “Sir, you know how you’ve been wanting to have a car after the 1968 Rally di Fruinia?” “Yeah?” “Well, here’s your chance.” A leaflet was placed on his desk, a rather corny drawing of a rally car flying through the air with a giddy racer smiling inside like a dolt. It read “The 1973 Rally di Fruinia wants YOUR cars! Following the included form, send us a notice at…” He got wide-eyed and immediately said to the intern “Get me my pad and pen, now.”

3 hours later, the Hyperion Rallye was born, a 116 horsepower (100 hp for the C2 version) FWD whippet of pure adrenaline, made for class C2 and C3.

The Japanese engineers at SPE have, in collaboration with manufacturer Hunson, examined an older sedan.

The original Hunson Judgy Super SII (second gen.) Is being converted by both parties to the annual rally in Fruinia for the C6 class.
Hunson is engaged in the construction of the modified chassis and suspension, while SPE specialists are deploying to adjust the original engine block and drive.
The original engine includes the robust 225 slant six. The entire engine is upgraded in terms of cylinder head and an extremely modern mechanical injection set is installed. The power increases from about 110 hp to 220 hp and a torque of 154 ft lb to 236 ft lb (320 Nm).

The race team this year consists of two people led by Kim Putin. Driver: Donald Jung un, 22 (PRK) Co-Driver: Vladimir Trump, 23 (USA)

[DATA EXPUNGED] 1973, SOME DESERT IN ARIZONA
Testing for upcoming Hyperion seems all well and good, need to get rid of the stupid spare wheel on top though, or move it. It handles itself quite well, and the smaller C2 version handles even better. Easy to control but still quick as hell. I’ll get back to you later.

“Oh, Leonard, terrible news!”
“What is it Mr. Wellsworth?”
“You only have 2 days to create the poster for the Mk.2!”
“Yikes, what’ll I do?”
“Just copy the one for the Benson.”
“Ok…”

Ciao! Straight from Alquet, is the 1973 Mk.2 rally car! We will be entering it in C3, which, in our opinions, will spell sudden doom for the rest of the competition! Addio!
.
.
.
And I gotta say, the drivability of this thing is insane.

Amber DelForcose:
Pretty, and fast. Boom.

Hubert Gulleyson:
One eagle eyed co-driver! This guy could dodge anything.

Kevin McKenny:
I’ve seen this kid actually disassemble and reassemble a '67 FAAL Mk2 Mesaia. And drive it away!

Ray Lemont, Peter Dribblings, Mandy Moore, Garry Everstone, and Burt DeGavinston:
Good. Very good. Wow…

“Yo! Leonard!”
“Yes? Mr. Wellsworth?”
“We don’t have time for lore, so rap it up!”
“Uh, ok sir.”

Mitsushita Motors Corporation: 1973 Rally di Fruinia

In 1973 Mitsushita decided to participate in the notorious Rally di Fruinia. They decided that they wished to promote the brand in preparation of their expanding attempt in the world market. And that would require as much different types of cars as possible.

They’ve chosen 4 distinct classes to ran in. C1, C4, C5, and C6. Each of which is an effort of a subsidiary in all over the world. Some are very much basic road car with few modifications. But others are pretty much prototype effort loosely based on their existing model.

The first model is of the C1 Class. Mitsushita decided to submit the Kitty 100GT by Yumalauto, the official importer of Mitsushita in Finland. This is just a basic Kitty 100GT with few modifications done and is very much related to the road car. Sporting number 111. This is an attempt to showcase the newest small model, which has recently become a huge success all over Europe.

The second car is a very modern and sleek design. For C5 Class, this is the Mitsushita 3200TCSI. It’s a very latest sport coupe and is part of the new Mitsushita Spada lineup. While the engine is standard 4J-E 3200cc unit intended for export market. It has been fitted with off the shelf Fuel Injection system. Also, the front clip has an aerodynamic design which differentiate it from normal Spada. The 3200TCSI rally car was developed by the effort of official importer of Mitsushita in England.

From the smallers to the biggest. C6 Class car is represented by a substantially more modified car. On the face of it this isn’t much different from the normal Mitsushita Kuruan of the era. But inside this is not the same at all. Mitsushita Kuruan V8 was developed at the headquarter in Japan. The standard 2600cc Inline 6 engine has been replaced by the 4.4-litre V8 from the most luxurious car Mitsushita made, the Emperor. This car is the brute. And should promote the brand that is mostly known for cheap, economical car.

But here’s where it gets interesting. People thought Mitsushita would only participate in 3 classes from the development news. But comes the trials day. A car that nobody knew appeared in the paddock. Apparently participating in the C4 class with none of the teamcrew being able to speak English. Apparently it’s the Ananda Loke 2000 SR, and from asking Mitsushita officials, it’s the effort of a subsidiary of Mitsushita in Thailand. What’s interesting is that the 2-litre V6 engine apparently is sourced from an Italian company with great historical significance in motor racing. And it certainly sounds good.
