1984 230ce

Hi All,

My name is Chase, I’ve been lurking on the forums for the last couple of days, just getting a feel for things, and I thought that introducing my car would be a good place to start.

I have a 1984 Mercedes-Benz 230CE, of the W123 body type. She was a grey import brought over to the US from Germany in 1986 by its original owner. It is a fairly unique vehicle over here, as the fuel-injected 4-cylinder was not offered as an option on the later W123’s. She also came equipped with a 4-speed manual transmission, I would have preferred the 5-speed, especially when travelling at highway speeds, but this gets the job done. Perhaps later on in my ownership I’ll be able to find a 5-speed to drop in place.

She is pretty basic, interior featuring cloth seating, manual windows, and manual climate control; No A/C! I have some goals for her, including getting her sunroof operational again (previous owner siliconed it shut, I’m sure it just needs the drains cleaned out and a new set of seals) and possibly getting a vinyl or leather interior, or sourcing the original cloth and having the front seats re-covered. The latter may prove to be a little difficult.

Without further ado, Here are some pictures!

(New Euro headlights installed, much better light output)

I came to the Mercedes-Benz from a MINI, however the MINI met a tragic end while I was pulled over for a speeding infraction. Another driver wasn’t paying attention and hit it going 60 M/H I was okay, but there was no fixing the Poor MINI.

Welcome Chase! Nice looking MB! Sorry to hear your Mini met such a tragic end but glad you are ok.

Welcome Chase, that’s a lovely Benz you have. The W123 is one of my favorites, if I had the space I would probably have a 300TD myself.
Shame about the 4-speed though.

Thanks T-5 Killer.

Thank you, too. I have to say, it isn’t a bad drive, I was expecting it to be an utter boat, but it has turned out to be surprisingly sprightly! I’m just glad the 4-speed was even there; the overwhelming majority of the W123s here in the states have automatics

What kind? You would be pretty awesome if you were to say a 240 wagon…

Any sort of Volvo will do …I love all of them.

Good man! I miss my '86 240 and '89 740 Wagon.
