What’s the max engine size it can hold?
Snicker well… if you massage it in there you can fit a 11 liter v8 in longitudinally. Not that anyone would do that, 11 liters is too much even for my maniacs.
Well, I’m about to check out the first few entries so I’ll see what kind of cars you people have sent in.
Your cars all comply with the rules, well done so far.
I’ll probably be entering this one.
One quick question though. It says we have to use standard 80s safety at a minimum, is there anything stopping me from using -15 quality on that safety package?
Absolutely not.
My drivers wont like that, but the few extra pennies will be helpful to get the ridiculous amount of power to the ground
One week left to enter if you haven’t done so already.
Quick question about the track times: when you say add 30 seconds per pit stop, do you mean to the total race time, or to one lap of the track? Coz that’s a hell of a lot for a single lap, but for a 24 hour race, that isn’t very many pit stops!
I couldn’t tell you myself really. I was only really planning to do one lap but obviously it’s a “24 hour” race. Unless someone can work out a calculation to make the tracks somewhere near 24 hours, then it’s going to stay one lap.
You know you have absolutely no idea what you’re doing when you stuff a 500HP V8 in the Carbon… transversely. Yes, my prototype is faster with front wheel drive. I’m serious
Give each car an X gallon fuel tank (40-ish is normal for a lot of race cars). Figure out a reasonable number of laps to run each track for that would get close to the 24 hour mark. Then figure out how many miles are going to be run on each track by multiplying length by laps. That will allow you to figure out how many pit stops per track.
A little on the calculation heavy side, yes, but it would definitely incorporate that pit stop idea, which I think is the first time I’ve seen that in a community challenge (and is an intriguing idea).
Not the first ever though. OldGreg ran a 24 hours of Le Mans a while back, though the exact calculation system was not publicly disclosed, it did run along the lines of what you said.
I also initially had an endurance racing format for the BSLL before I realised that illegal races on semi-street circuits would have to be short otherwise they’d get interrupted by the cops
I’ll see how I can use what you said tomorrow, Vic. It’s like 9PM and my brain does not function at this time of day.
You have until tonight to enter your submission… and I have until tonight to get everything sorted out still
I’ve been away for a few days so I haven’t had time to do any of the stuff regarding the competition, so I’ll try and get everything sorted by the deadline.
So far I’ve figured this set of calculations for the pits and such.
Work out lap in seconds,
There's 86400 seconds in 24 hours.
86400/seconds = #laps,
#laps*#miles,
40 gallons of fuel per pit,
Fuel mileage*40 = miles on 1 tank
Total miles/miles on 1 tank = #pits
1 pit is 30 seconds, give or take 10s
Note: I made this so I could read it, if you don’t understand a certain part of it, I’ll elaborate.
The results for the first race on Circuit Gilles Villenueve are in, and I have to admit, the results were not what I expected at all. Also, the Canadian won on a Canadian track, who would’ve guessed?
Wow, I expected to be in the last place. Good results for being this the first challenge I enter.
This is only race 1 of 5, remember that
Could we see lap times too? I’m curious how close we all eere.
