1996 Saloon Shootout - {RESULTS}

Ah, the nineties. What a cool decade. The birth of some of the most coveted items such as Nintendo’s domination of the video game market, some of the most “rad” TV shows, and, of course, some of the coolest cars, like the Toyota Supra MKIV and McLaren F1. In the 90’s, it’s cool to be cool. And, nothing screams cool more than your car. That said, midsize sedans were never known for being cool; yet they dominated the market then and continue to now. And your companies? They must have sold them by the millions… Or did they? Have your company enter a cheap and cheerful midsize saloon to compete against the likes of the Honda Accord, VW Passat, Alfa Romeo 156, and BMW 318i, and we can see who is the best.

Please, if you don’t have the steam version of the game, use vanilla parts only. Only your latest build please.

—Regulations—
Trim Tech year 1996 - Model may be of different year to simulate an earlier release date.
A recommended market price
and not production price price range of over $15,000 and under $25,000.
Cars can only run on unleaded fuel.
Wheelbase 115 inches/2.92 meters or under.
Only 4 doors.
Not really a regulation, but if you want to succeed, try not to make irrational decisions.

—NEW—
After closer inspection, I have decided that, since it is so common, catalytic converters are now required on every car. If you don’t have one, I will PM you.

Thank you so much for making a challenge about building an everyday sort of car, they’re the reason I love Automation! Just a quick question, when we go to submit the car, is there a naming convention we should follow?

Interesting that Drivability apparently isn’t important at all… Hmm…

Hope to enter later this week. Stock, boring cars are my favorite to make, just not usually so “new.”

As for a naming convention, not this time. I’ll sort cars by year, they should all come up.

As for drivability, well, I’ll leave it up to you to see how civilized you want your car to be.

EDIT: I’ll add drivability and safety into the weights, since, after careful thought, people don’t want to crash into a tree.

(Begins taking notes)

Don’t… want… to… crash… into… a… tree…

Well now I have to start over, thanks.

Quick note: is the current standalone build 151208 or 151211? Because the Steam version is the latter.

Whoa, what? When did 211 happen, what’s new?

You know what, I’ll just put the required build as the latest to be released.

Earlier today - I think it’s just some bugfixes, but I haven’t seen a changelog.

Yes! So much yes! Be assured Centauri is hard at work, I only wish the superchargers were ready.

I’m important! I drive a dodge Stratus!

Should you perhaps set an engineering cost limit? It might set up some variety as to what people choose to spend their development money on.

Presenting the 1996 Bogliq Bastion Traveller!!!

Sounds like a challenge I can get behind. I’ll come up with something, I’m sure of it.

yay for another 90s challenge.

Centauri is in with Our entry level “midsized” Voyager, it’s a solid and dependable platform that’s been in production for almost 10 years now, new for 1996 is the Gypsy trim level aimed at the affordable premium market with a stronger focus on economy and luxury then previous trims.

I don’t mind telling you that even though I tuned towards this challenge it’s a big hit with the marketplace

well let’s just see just how ‘eco’ is a V6 or a assumed 4.1l engine really is

Roughly comparable to real life midsized v6 equipped car of the era. This was a fun challenge and the voyager will definitely become a centauri staple in the future.

Well this is a bit awkward, my own car has similar market scores and a 4.1L V6 as well. I was even going to use the same body, but decided it didn’t fit with the design choices I’m trying to stick to in regards to my company. So at least that will be different haha. Hopefully will be able to show mine off within the next couple of days, I’m still not set on the styling.

My car gets slightly lower scores, but i use a 2.0 liter inline 4, with VTEC, YO! And a smaller body.

^well another awkward situation.

2.1l i4 with the smaller body. but… 27% efficiency engine with only SOHC at year 1996
