it should be exactly the same on both places but I guess it’s easier to read on the performance tab
(I tried starting from scratch with a different body and managed to get something that is hopefully rule compliant…)
2015 Kiyume Kitsune Racer
Time for something a little different - how about a mid-mounted naturally aspirated 2.2L Flat-4?
Just to confirm, it doesn’t have to be an mx-5 body, right?
Not necessarily.
no, it does not.

2.4L mid mounted Boxer 6 (DOHC) redlines at 8500 rpm
Mitsu Flowery
An Aluminum semi-space frame with double wishbones and multilink suspensions.
The only car with active aero and also very surprisingly, only 165 mm tyre widths.

Rule infractions: Too low wing angles + engine and trim techpool at +5
MM Tobago Cup
Steel/Aluminum monocoque with double wishbone suspensions all around.
2L mid mounted V10 (90 deg) (DOHC) redlines at 8600 rpm

Rule breaks: Engine a trim techpools at +5
Ridgewell Capuchin Clubsport
Aluminum monocoque with double wishbone and multilink suspensions
2.2L front mounted Inline 6 (DOHC) redlines at 7500
Minussian NX
Aluminum monocoque with double wishbone and multilink suspensions
3.2L front mounted V8 (60) (SOHC) redlines at 6400
Gazelle Paul V8
Aluminum monocoque with macpherson and double wishbone suspensions
3.26L front mounted V8 (90) (DOHC) redlines at 7200
Diehatsoo Morela Coping
Aluminum/Steel semi space frame with double wishbone and pushrod suspensions
1.47L mid mounted I4 (90) (DOHC) redlines at 11600!
note on the rule breaks:
- the consequence to these entries is that I’ll very quickly fix(try to) them myself if possible. Removing downforce is easy, however all the follow ups from removing techpool might be too bad and the entry maybe DQed because of that.

Ah thanks for not just binning the rule breakers
An interesting mix of entries! Keen to see how they go & compare
Ok, so and here’s the final cut. 4 cars had to go to make room for the final 10 and it was not an easy choice. I’m in general extremely happy with the cars I got and amazed by the amount of variety in the solutions while maintaining high driving standards.
And… the first bin is…
Mitsu Flowery
The first red flag was the meme toy design, 2nd was the rule breaks. But under the hood there are more, starting by being the only car with so thin tires (165). Then there is this engine:
which has almost no power band.
It has the worst acceleration stats on all levels and an almost 15 sec 1/4 mile time. everyone else is at most at 13 secs. It is also one of the heaviest cars of the field
Second bin is…
Gazelle Paul V8
I get where it comes from but for the ones who don’t know, this one is a recycle job from a previous challenge I hosted. That was for 80’s hatchbacks though and the transition to a modern light race car did not really work. Apart from the above mentioned, this design looks the most distant from the subject for this challenge. Not having an interior also does not do any favours to it. It’s previous iteration was a super fun AWD with a powerful V8 but its RWD 200hp counterpart is not very wieldy and comes with a dubious brake balance to help. (no abs)
The Third bin is…
Reveriata
This one was a more difficult choice because it’s not very far from the ones that are not binned.
The design, while ok, does feel a bit rushed. Notice the lack of interior materials. But the biggest difference happened while driving it. It lacks traction, nimbleness and consistency while not feeling really fast. looking at the engineering choices one can start finding what might have been wrong.
It’s the only entry with full MacPherson suspensions, it has an open diff, the rear sway bar is non-existent and the rear springs are much stiffer than the fronts, its ride height is the highest of the field, and, it has a manual gearbox instead of the better option, the sequential. The engine however, while not giving out the best music, is pretty good. One wonders with all these engineering downsides, where did all the budget go?
The Fourth and last bin is…
MM Curacao Cup
Hmmm, what’s wrong with this one? Not much actually. It’s just that someone submitted a double entry under the condition that only one would be allowed in the final cut. The engineering is very good, design also and it feels fast and wieldy on track. However its partner, the MM Tobago Cup, beats it by being smoother, turning better at lower speeds, feeling very safe under braking and having a V10 engine which sounds insanely nice. Did I mention it’s the best at accelerating from the whole field.
Congrats to the final field and the more intensive test driving will start shortly. (also a poll for aesthetics will be online(soon))
Aesthetics Voting
…finally…
Ok, so I was going around in circles on which method/website/app I would be using for the aesthetics voting only to not be really satisfied with any of the “free” options (or maybe I was just procrastinating) and so ended up coming back right at square zero and opted for the most basic method, this forum.
First, here are all the cars again: in no particular order.
MM Tobago Cup
Fulgor Pista
Goldberg Mirage
Kitsune Racer
Foork Cordelia Eline
Chirurgico Pugno
Minussian NX
KFC Ringen Cup
Diehatsoo Morela Coping
Ridgewell Capuchin Clubsport
If you would like to vote, everyone is welcome, all you need to do is to send me a dm with a list of all the 10 cars ranked by preference. (From 1st to 10th)
- Rank them relative to each other, from 1st place to 10th place with a car at every position, no ties.
- If you also submitted a car, you do not need to rank your own car. If you do, that rank will be ignored anyway.
- Please also take in consideration the context of the challenge(date and type of car).
- Please don’t vote “strategically”, that is, trash the car you think is in more direct competition with yours
- Anyone can vote, each vote will count equally as much.
- A couple of design experts(that is, designers who have had their own designs featured on the official Automation posts) will also be asked directly to rate the cars. These will be weighed a bit more than the ones from “normal” mortals such as us.
- No deadline as of yet, but at some point in the very near future I’ll stop accepting votes.
little update: one of the judges already drove all the cars, so this means we’re 1/3 of the way to go.
ps: feel free to scroll above to see more pictures with different angles of the posted cars
Huh, could’ve sworn I got rid of the Pugno’s windshield with cutouts
you are correct. On my previous photos of your car(With exactly the same model) the windshield is not there. (see previous cars presentation) . I’ll take a look later tonight at what went wrong and replace the photo on the post.
Ok, so, it’s about time for some results.
First up, the aesthetics part:
5 cars made the podium, yep, two cars share first place and another 3 share the 3rd spot.
In 3rd are:
- MM Tobago Cup by @ctesiphon
- Foork Cordelia Eline XP2 by @Ananas
- Diehatsoo Morela Coping by @stigx24536
and sharing first, as predicted are:
- Chirurgico Pugno by @azkaalfafa
- KFC Ringen Cup by @FrederikLenius and @KenShiro
Not only are these amazing designs but the amount of detail and precision is mindblowing. They are eye candy in beamNg as well and make for a very very enjoyable experience.
Aesthetics Results:
1st - KFC Ringen Cup + Chirurgico Pugno
3rd - MM Tobago Cup + Diehatsoo Morela Coping + Foork Cordelia Eline XP2
6th - Ridgewell Capuchin Clubsport + Goldberg Mirage Mk3 NS
8th - Minussian NX
9th - Kiyume Kitsune Racer
10th - Fulgor Pista
It's foorking fast!
The Foork Cordelia Eline XP2 by @Ananas is the car that went the fastest at the chosen track, which was Hirochi Medium.
Lap time results:
1st - Foork Cordelia Eline XP2 by @Ananas
2nd - MM Tobago Cup by @ctesiphon
3rd - Diehatsoo Morela Coping by @stigx24536
4th - tied - Fulgor Pista by @arthur_mp and KFC Ringen Cup by @FrederikLenius
6th - Ridgewell Capuchin Clubsport by nocturne
7th - Kiyume Kitsune Racer by @machalel
8th - tied - Chirurgico Pugno by @azkaalfafa and Goldberg Mirage Mk3 NS by @hazafi_8
10th - Minussian NX by @Nolan_Cables
At least the speed of my Fulgor wasn’t as bad as the looks hahahaha
Yes yes, I know I took too long but here it is…
The results for the drivability section are....
...…
1st place for Fulgor Pista
Well, it does not look the best but it sure is the easiest to drive and you need to make quite an effort to crash this one, and is very easy to push. It’s not the one with the best balance as it is a little bit understeery but it’s the overall best drivable car.
2nd place for Kiyume Kitsune Racer
Glued to the track, sounds awesome and it’s almost perfectly balanced in all aspects
3rd place for Foork Cordelia Eline XP2
It just turns so easily! No understeer and no oversteer either but sometimes the brakes catch up with you (no abs).
Drivability/funness/raceability Round:
- Fulgor Pista by @arthur_mp
- Kiyume Kitsune Racer by @machalel
- Foork Cordelia Eline XP2 by @Ananas
- MM Tobago Cup by @ctesiphon
- Minussian NX by @Nolan_Cables
- Diehatsoo Morela Coping by @stigx24536
- Chirurgico Pugno by @azkaalfafa
- KFC Ringen Cup by @FrederikLenius and @KenShiro
- Goldberg Mirage Mk3 NS by @hazafi_8
- Ridgewell Capuchin Clubsport by Nocturne
Both the Chirurgico and the Ridgewell bottom out while braking and the Diehatsu’s brakes become fire after a few laps.
Final results tomorrow, I promise
FINAL STANDINGS!
CONGRATULATIONS @Ananas for an amazing car. Looks good, drives good and it’s fast.
Thanks you all for participating.
