At first I thought that DCOE carburettors were better then 4 Barrel Full Stop. But comparing them, 4 Barrel is better in every single way from power, economy, emissions, weight, cost and so on. The only advantage a DCOE carburettor actually has is it’s responsiveness Does responsiveness effect the way it drives much or is a DCOE carb just a rip off?
If you think that way, then you didn’t see the full picture. Take an Inline-4 for instance, you can fit one 4-bbl carb on it, while you can fit two DCOE carbs on it, so to compare the two options you basically need to multiply the DCOE stats by 2. Comparing a single 4-bbl carb to a single DCOE carb leads to the following:
4-bbl win in: Eco, EMI, RON, Cost, weight
DCOE win in: Flow / maximum power, responsiveness
So for sporty or race engines (example I4) you’d go for two DCOEs, which would be more or less the equivalent of one 2-bbl carb per cylinder.
Yeah… I only compared the two on a 4000cc V8 and looking again on a inline 4 I can see the difference, becouse the power and responsiveness is much higher on a DOCE. I don’t know how I missed it… especially because I’m the one who got platinum in 16 scenarios including the hatchback GTI challenge. I’m just wandering how I missed it
