Yes there are engines with this setup. Another I can think of is the pulsar GTI-R.
But its not needed for even the powerlevels of the SSC. For example look at Koenigsegg or Bugatti engines, which run one throttle per bank
Yes there are engines with this setup. Another I can think of is the pulsar GTI-R.
But its not needed for even the powerlevels of the SSC. For example look at Koenigsegg or Bugatti engines, which run one throttle per bank
I get it now, basically supercar tech on a cheap hatchback.
With 98hp it’s even more silly - I’m pretty sure my engine was the biggest here yet the power per litre is on 1980s level
Think of it as a marketing ploy.
“Buy our cheap hatchback! We have the same fuel system setup as a Bugatti!”
BTW, what about the rest? Partial alu panels and direct injection I think were already implemented in some lower-end cars (definitely something VW at least)
Direct infection was Sports cars only in 2006 or Special Models (CGI at Mercedes, for example). Unless its a Mitsubishi, they tried that in bread and Butter already in the mid to late 90s
For the most part the rest was ok, mostly let down by tuning, which I will go through in more detail as requested. I think its good to learn from each other’s mistakes and there were a few cars that made the same mistakes.
On the direct injection. I don’t fully agree with Hippo on it being sports car exclusive at this time. But it was definitely a fancier technology. We are around the break point on when it started gaining more traction. But it was mostly reserved for the more premium companies, like the germans, with BMW introducing it on there 4 cylinder, the N43 in 07.
For the alu panels you’re fully correct that VW used it. They used in among other things in the Lupo, with both models with partial and full aluminum construction.
that’s interesting
I know only one car in the B-segment that used aluminium construction, the Audi A2. Could’ve gone with that but it’d be wayyyy out of Birgitta’s price range lol.
Plus that had the 1.6 FSI engine shared with other VW and Skoda models ![]()
My first car was a 1981 Bonneville, which could have passed for “partial aluminum” body construction. I know the hood was aluminum, as well as some inner bumper metal. Inner fenders could have been plastic if I remember correctly.
Of course, that had nothing to do with chassis material.
---- Round 1 ----
The good, the bad and the.. very bad (Part 2)
@Edsel - Aero Clara LXa
L: This car is actually something I saw while driving to work
Lisa hold up a picture of the car she took on her cellphone.
L: It’s an Aero Clara LXa. I immediately thought of grandma when I saw it.
A: Well yeah it certainly looks like a small car an old person would drive.
L: That’s what I fought as well. However it’s not as small as it looks actually. The measurements of the car according to the magazines is about average for this segment.
J: Is that why it looks so strange from the side?
L: What do you mean?
J: Well.. it looks kinda compressed from the side.
A:Hmm yes.. it looks like a truck rammed into the rear. It’s so short. Apart from the weird proportions, I don’t think it’s too bad, a bit featureless maybe.
L: Honestly I think the look is fine. Reviews were however a bit skeptical about some of the engineering. Especially considering that in two of the four magazines I read had the car break down during testing. Apparently it was quite thirsty as well with an average consumption of nearly 8 L/100km.
A: If 50% broke down during testing, I think Birgitta would be really confused if we bought one for her. So I think this one has to go.
J: Yeah, agreed.
Eliminated due to engineering
The design isn’t offensive, but it’s not something out of the ordinary either. The biggest flaw is the weird proportions of the greenhouse compared to the rest of the car. The rear of the car is so short and it makes it look super strange. I don’t know how much of it is the body being a bit shit and how much is your design ability. The front end of the car is a bit flat and could use some more depth, either via moulding or less use of premade stuff. The rear is generally fine but I’m not a fan of the big chrome trim piece.
Now the engineering is mostly ok. But it falls below on some key stats. Mainly drivability and reliability is below average, especially reliability which is one of the lowest of all entries. I think this mostly stems from your usage of quality. There are also some choices I don’t really get. Using SPI on 06 cars feels a bit dated, also dual wishbone suspension is not really realistic for a car of this segment. You also equipped the car with premium satnav, which isn’t that realistic IMO, satnav is something reserved for higher end cars in 06, even on premium cars this wasn’t standard and usually a costly option. So having it on a crummy city car probably isn’t that realistic, it also hurts your reliability quite a bit.
Below average stats and below average looks means that it’s the end of the road for this car and it gets eliminated.
@NotChris07 - Flash Inspira
A: I can tell you right off the bat, I think we should go look at this car.
J: Oh wow.. high praise.
A: Well it looks very good, don’t you agree?
J: Well yes.. it does
L: Yes agreed.
A: And it got positive reviews. So I don’t see a reason not to add this to our “Look at” list.
J: Well you’re very convincing.
L: Yeah, I say we go look at it then
Car moves on to the next round!

@the-chowi - Billancourt Mirage HB
Jakob holds up a picture of the “Billancourt Mirage HB”
A: Wow, another good looking car!
J: Yeah! And like the Flash Inspira it also got good reviews from journalists.
L: Then I think we should definitely look at this one as well.
Car moves on to the next round!

@vero94773 - Hwaseung Asilar XE⁵
Lisa brings up a picture of the “Hwaseung Asilar XE⁵”
A: Wow! Hot streak!
J:Three very nicely looking cars in a row now.
L: Yeah and just like the other two, this one also got good reviews!
J: Then we should definitely add this one to the list.
Car moves on to the next round!
To be continued..
@Jaeger - Rennara Sava EX
Jakob brings forward a picture of the “Rennara Sava EX”
A:ooohhh and there goes the streak of hotness!
L:Well its not thaaaat bad now is it.
A:Well.. no but its definitely not as good looking as the previous three. It lacks.. shape, and does rims are uuhh.. interesting.
J: Yeah I don’t agree on the rim choice either.
L: Well what does the review say?
J:They were mostly unimpressed. Especially with the comfort.. which was described as “good for the 40s”.
A: Well with regards to we not liking the looks and since we don’t want grandma to crack in two, I think we should eliminate this car.
Eliminated based on looks

At least you noticed it yourself. Even if this technically was a rule break, as it doesn’t affect your stats I decided against binning this car and instead it impears a score penalty.
The engineering isn’t half bad. All your stats were just above average, all except one. Your comfort. Which is the lowest of all entries, being 40% behind the average. If this would’ve been a lower star priority it would’ve probably been fine, but since it’s on the top of priority stats wise, it really hurts your overall score. You’re losing a looooot of comfort from your suspension tuning, so I would’ve personally focused more on this. On top of this you’ve gotten some penalties as well. As mentioned you got a penalty for the wipers. But just like the Aero Clara you’ve used single point injection which, like mentioned, feels quite old fashioned.
With a lackluster design and comfort far behind the rest, this car does not move on.
@Kreator - ACZ Tyke H3C
A: Here we have an “ACZ Tyke H3C”
Andreas turns his PC around to show a picture of the car
L: Oh.. wow.. It’s absolutely tiny.
A:Yes.. yes it is.
J: What are the reviews like on this little blob?
A: They were really, really good. Most commented that it was in the top class of this segment.
L: Well then we certainly have to look more at this thing.
Car moves on to the next round!
To be continued..
@Happyhungryhippo - Yamaguchi Tesuryo 1000DI Royal
J: Keeping with the trend of tiny cars, this is the “Yamaguchi Tesuryo 1000DI Royal”. Just like the ACZ this thing also got some very positive reviews.
A: Well on that basis, I think we should look at this car as well.

---- Round 1 ----
The good, the bad and the.. very bad (Part 3)
Well this certainly makes for suspense going into the final batch of reviews: a greater than 50% chance of making the finals if you’re in the last group of 7 cars, but also a 1 in 7 chance of finishing dead last.
As someone in that last batch, don’t mind me, I’ll just be over here doing some deep breathing exercises to calm my nerves until the next round comes out. ![]()
Keep up the good work!
---- Round 1 ----
The good, the bad and the.. very bad (Part 3)
@RyoMotoCo - RMC B300 GL V6
J: Here we have an “RMC B300 - GL V6”
A: V6? Does that mean this car has a V6?
J: Uuggh.. yeah.
A: That feels.. odd
L: I actually found something similar in a magazine while looking for cars. This thing looks a bit better though.
A: Speaking of looks, I don’t think I like it that much honestly.
L: Well it’s definitely not the best looking car I’ve seen, but it’s not the worst either. How’s the reviews?
J: Not that brilliant. Both service cost and fuel efficiency, not surprisingly, is very bad because of the V6. There were also a lot of complaints about how difficult the car is to drive.
A: Well since we’re not sure about the looks and reviews were sub-par, I think we eliminate it.
Eliminated due to engineering
While the looks aren’t horrible, it’s not that good either. The front is okay, but you’ve missed indicators and the headlights are far too modern. I’m not a fan of any of the molding used. It feels un-purposeful and looks out of place. On the rear the lights feel quite compressed and I really don’t like the “Charger” rear lights. The square exhaust really clashes with the oval exhaust cutouts. Some oval exhaust would’ve looked a bit better here.
First off it feels like you fully missed the brief. Most of the choices made feel really counter intuitive and actively work against you. A V6 sedan really has no place in this challenge. The engineering seems very random. Some choices feel like it’s supposed to be a sports car, some a premium car and some a cheap car. The car’s identity crisis really hurts it overall. The engine is actually tuned really well. But some rethinking on the quality usage is definitely needed. With some better usage of quality, the engine would actually be really good. However, with it being a 3.0L V6, It doesn’t really matter that the engine is tuned well as the inherent drawback actively works against you. The rest of the car however leaves a lot to be desired and needs a serious rethink. The techpool also leaves more to be desired. On the stats you’ve got the highest SVC of all entries with it being 1038 dollars which is far too much. Drivability is also one of the lowest being 64 which is far, far behind. The car is also at the budget cap which doesn’t help its case.
@mart1n2005 - Alouette Kinetic
Anders hold up a picture of the “Alouette Kinetic”
L: Ooh yes, I like that.
J: Yeah that certainly looks snazzy.
A: Its got amazing reviews as well with most magazines being happy with basically every aspect of this car.
J: Well then this car is something we’ll have to look closer at.
Car moves on to the next round!
To be continued..
@VanZandt_Breda - Van Zandt Cruzero
L: This unique looking car is a “Van Zandt Cruzero”
A: Yeah, that front end definitely looks a bit unique, in a good way. Buut oof, that side profile, and the rear end. They really destroy it.
J: Yeah that side profile is definitely lacking.
L: Well the reviews are fairly positive, so maybe that’ll save it?
A: Well how positive?
L: Most magazines say it’s just about average.
J: Eeh, then I don’t think we need to look at this car further.
Eliminated based on looks
Even with the front being something I think most people would conventionally call “not good” I really like it. I have no clue what about it makes me like it, as it really shouldn’t work, but somehow it just hits a spot within me. However something that really doesn’t work is this car’s proportions from the side. That glass house from the side looks like its just bulging out of the car. I think this mostly stems from how far back the windscreen is pushed, it makes it look like someone kicked the poor car’s forehead in. Apart from that the side is mostly fine. The rear looks super tight, probably because of the large indent the license plate sits in. The rear bumper is also a bit big and empty and the weird lines going vertically down don’t do it for me. Also the weird trim on the roof, dont really know what thats doing there.
Your engineering is mostly fine with basically all stats being average. You’ve achieved one of the highest reliability of all entries, not the best but definitely not far behind the top cars here. Where you fell behind is on drivability and cost. They’re not that far behind the average but it’s still below. What mostly hurt you were the score penalties you got which were from the missing front indicators, the dual wishbone suspension and the usage of ITBs. All of these I have gone through in the thread if you wanna know why this warrants a penalty. On the tuning side of things, your techpool usage is really lacking. Some re allocation of quality would’ve also helped to boost your score. Apart from that most things look good here.
With the sub-par design and the stats not being on par with the top guys, sadly your journey ends here
@oldmanbuick - Constellation N112 CE2
J: Right here we have a “Constellation N112 CE2”
Jakob presents a picture from a magazine of the car
A:Hmmm, I’m not so certain of the looks here.
L: I mean yeah its not class leading, but you cant call it ugly now can you.
A: Yeah no that’s true. How are the reviews?
J: Mostly good, getting praised for its size and usability.
A: Well then I think we should certainly add this to our list.
Car moves on to the next round!
To be continued..
@GassTiresandOil - Armor Attrezzo Wagon
A: This here is the “Armor Attrezzo Wagon”
J: Wagon?
A: Yes, wagon.
J:Isn’t that going to be a bit big for grandma?
A: Eeh.. well maybe. But I thought it might be fun with some variation.
L: Well looks wise, I don’t have much of a problem with it.
J: Yeah its mostly fine in my opinion as well.
L: What’s the reviews like?
A: They’re alright. Nothing really special. Most criticism was directed towards the high fuel consumption and that the expected service cost was fairly high. Also many complained about the gearbox.
J: Hmm, well with that I think we eliminate this car.
Eliminated due to engineering
Overall the styling of this car is nice. There really isn’t much for me to comment on if I’m honest, or to be more correct, I don’t know what to comment on. The design doesn’t make me go “wow” but neither does it repel me. Overall the design feels outdated and the front end can look a bit derpy from certain angles. On the rear, the trunk feels a bit empty which could’ve been remedied with some bigger taillights. Also I don’t know why there is a random bulge on the roof. Apart from that I don’t have much to say, so sorry about that.
On the stats you’ve done fairly well, with most being average. What’s let you down is your fuel economy which is on the higher side and your SVC which is also higher than most other cars. The engine is fairly ok with a nice and flat torque curve, however the thermal efficiency of this engine is quite poor being only 20% while most top entries are at astleast 25%. This could’ve been remedied with either higher compression, lower fuel map or more undersquare engine. Techpool could’ve been better and while your quality usage is very reserved you’ve spent it in the correct places. Your gearbox tuning really needs to be rethought, with the gaps between gears being big enough to fit another gearbox between them. This hurts comfort, drivability and fuel consumption.
With stats not reaching that of the top cars and a look which is just average it means this car doesn’t move on.
@tsarchasm - Levatio SEL
Jakob holds up a picture of a yellow car
J: This is a “Levatio SEL” and yes, I know the looks of this thing is nothing special, but its got really good reviews.
A: Good enough to warrant us looking more at it?
J: Yeah, I would definitely say so.

@supersaturn77 - SYEON pokke 1.5 Envi

J: I think it looks good in general, not just for a cheaper car.
A: How’s the reviews?
L: Pretty good, most magazines were impressed with the car as a whole.
A: Well.. then we should probably look at this car a bit more.

The Grand-kids list (Part 1)
Next time we will be following the grand kids as they head out to dealerships and start test driving some cars. From there they will decide on 5 cars Birgitta herself will look at.

---- Round 2 ----
The Grand-Kids list (Part 1)
Before we begain, I wanna apolizge for the time this round took. I posted on the DC so some of you already know why, but for those that missed it or arent on the DC, I feel you should get an explanation as well. Too keep it short and sweet, like Sabrina Carpenter, I was burnt out from work. I just basically worked 14 days straight, going between my normal job and my freelance stuff. So today is the firts real rest im getting. As you might imagen, this drained my engery quite a bit which means the energy I had left over after working was put elsewhere. So dont worry, this is far from being abannondet and I should now be able to pick up the writing pace again. With this out the way, let get into round 2!
Due to me having to use Imgur for the images, they might be scuffed on some platforms, I advise using a desktop to view this post.
It’s early in the morning and all the grandkids are preparing themselves. Today is a big day. Today they are gonna head into the city and visit the different dealerships with the 10 different cars that seem to pass mustard. Of these 10 cars, 5 of them will have the honor to be looked at by birgitta. At 7am, the children meet at the Billancourt dealership to look at their first car.
@the-chowi - Billancourt Mirage HB
A: Good morning guys! How are we feeling today?
J: I’m kinda tired honestly, but I’m ready to go.
L: I’m fully prepped myself, I got myself a good dose of sleep.
J: Yeah.. Well, I stayed up all night playing WoW, which I’m kinda regretting right now. But let’s get going.
The three grandkids head into the dealership. As they enter they are greeted by that fantastic smell of new cars. A nicely dressed salesman greets them and introduces himself as Christian.
C: How can I help you guys today?
A: We are here to look at a Mirage HB. You have any in the Showroom?
C: Yeah, we actually have a few. Anything specific you’re looking for?
A: No, not really. Show us something you think would work well for someone elderly.
Christian leads them over to a green Mirage HB
L: Wow, I really like this color.
A: Yeah its a nice and fits the car and it looks just as good as it did in the pictures.
C: Well here is the key, feel free to look around and if you need anything, just tell me!
As the grandkids start looking around the car they are impressed by the looks and sleekness of the car. As they open the door they are greeted by a nicely trimmed interior with nice leather seats.
A: This interior feels quite nicely put together and the materials feels nice, as well these seats being quite comfortable.
L: Yeah it feels nice and roomy as well.
A: Shall we go for a test drive then?
J: Yeah sure!
A: Hey! Christian! Is it fine if we take the car out for a test drive?
C: Yeah sure, go for it.
The three grandkids get in and Andreas takes the seat behind the wheel. He inserts the key and the 1.7L 4 cylinder sparks to life. As they head out onto the road its immediately obvious how comfortable the car is, not only was the interior comfortable, but the suspension also rode very well. The smoothness of the engine was also quite nice.
A: I really like how this thing drives. I don’t see any problems with the driving experience, not from behind the wheel at least. How are you guys feeling?
L: I like it, it rides well and seems easy to handle.
J:What kinda fuel mileage are we getting?
A: Uuuhh, let me see if I can get it up. Oh yeah here we go.. uuhh 6,1 L/100km it seems like.
L: Wow that’s quite good!
As the trio arrives back at the dealership they are once again greeted by Christian
C: So.. how does it feel?
A: Well we were definitely impressed. We have a few more cars to look at, but we will definitely be back!
Car moves on to the next round!
To be continued..
@NotChris07 - Flash Inspira
At 8:30 they arrive at their next stop, the Flash dealership. As they step through the door, the trio immediately spots the car they are looking for, a yellow Flash Inspira. As they look around the car, a sharp looking saleswoman approaches them and introduces herself as Erika.
E: How can I help today? You seem quite interested in this Inspira.
L: Yeah, we are looking for a car to give to our grandma.
E: Oh.. well you’re certainly looking at the right car. Let me go grab the key so you can have a closer look.
Erika brings them a key and the grandkids jump in. They remark that on the interior front, the Billancourt beats it out by just a tiny, tiny margin, but it’s definitely nothing to sneeze at with this car also having a well trimmed leather interior. With Lisa behind the wheel this time, its time for a test drive. She inserts and turns the key which brings life to 1.2 inline 4.
J: Wow, this suspension is superb, this comfy suspension more than makes up for the loss of interior quality compared to the Mirage. The engine is also nice and smooth just like the Mirage.
L: Well yeah, the suspension is definitely comfy but with all this softness it’s lost some driving feel, I’m really not a fan. The throttle is also quite sensitive.
A: How’s the fuel economy here compared to the Billancourt?
L: It’s definitely better, I suspect the CVT is mostly responsible for that. Current consumption is showing 5,4 L/100km.
A: That’s a nice improvement!
As they pull back into the parking lot, Andreas decides to pop the hood, here something immediately worries him
A:Oh.. oh no. Welded tube headers.. AND ITBs. That’s not a good sign.
J: That might explain the throttle feel.
They close the hood, lock the car and head back inside. They unanimously agree that after this closer look, this car is not something for Brigitta. They hand back the key and head on to the next stop.
Eliminated due to engineering
I’m really impressed by the styling of this thing. While yes, it doesn’t fully reach the top entries, it’s sure up there. What’s even more impressive is that you managed it with only 43 fixtures. This really shows that you don’t need a lot of fixtures to make a good design. My only critique would be that some more shape on the side would be nice. But overall a strong design.
The engineering is also fairly decent. With all but 2 stats being above average. The weakest of these is your drivability, which while it’s not far behind average, its a bit behind other cars that made it this far. Your tuning is good. The only major problem I’ve found is that you’re pushing too much compression which results in the engine pulling a lot of timing to avoid knocking. What screw you were your penalties. Going with ITBs and a tube headers earned you hefty penalties, this has already been gone over in this thread. Another thing hurting you is the 3 piston front calipers which is really unnecessary in this application. Overall your engineering is definitely top 10 worthy but with the penalties you’re sadly not moving to the next round.
@mart1n2005 - Alouette Kinetic
Next up is the local Alouette dealer, arriving at 9:30. They head through the door and a nice and modest looking man approaches them.
?: Welcome! My name is Albin. Are you guys looking for something special or are you just looking around?
J: Were looking for a Kinetic, we saw you had one in stock!
AL: Yeah we do!
Albin leads the grandkids over to a light gold Alouette Kinetic and hands them a key
AL: Here you go guys, feel free to have a look around and just tell me when you want to go for a test drive, alright?
A: Yeah will do!
L: Oh.. this is more in the style of an mpv compared to the others which are more a traditional hatchback. Didn’t realise that from the pictures.
A: Yeah, it’s certainly a unique approach. But let’s not dismiss it on that alone, let’s see what this thing has to offer.
J: Well the exterior is very nice. I like the aggressive face. It’s like a small attack dog.
Looking inside the Alouette, the trio is met with a more basic interior than those in the Inspira and Mirage. But it feels really well put together to the touch. As Jakob this time takes the wheel, he fires up the 1.4 4 cylinder and heads out for a drive.
J: While the interior isn’t as nice as in the other cars we’ve looked and suspension being harder its still actually quite comfy, at least from here.
A: Yeah I think it’s good back here as well. It’s not as good as the Billancourt but it’s definitely on par with the Flash.
J: I like how easy it is to drive. It might be kinda understeery it feels like but it still is easy to handle. Good fuel usage as well. 5.5 L/100km is what we are averaging right now.
L: So roughly like the Flash then.
As they head back, all three are impressed and come out with a positive feeling about the car. They park the car, hand the keys back and without saying much they all agree to come back with Brigitta to have a closer look.
Car moves on to the next round!
To be continued..
@vero94773 - Hwaseung Asilar XE⁵
The 2nd to last stop before lunch is the Hwaseung dealership. Arriving at 10:45, a lime green Asilar XE⁵ greats them, just the car they were looking for. A salesman walks towards them and introduces himself as Emil.
E: Interested in the Asilar are we?
A: Yeah, we were impressed by the journalists’ reviews, so we thought we should take a closer look.
E: Are you looking for something for yourself or?
J: No.. were looking for something for our grandmother.
E: Oh.. how nice. Let me go get the key for you guys.
L: Like the pictures, this thing looks really nice
A: Yeah agreed, but im not so sure about the lime.
Emil arrives back with the key. As the grandkids enter the car. They are presented with, just like the Alouette, a more basic interior. But also like the Alouette, it’s well put together. As they head out for the test drive, Andreas takes the wheel and starts up the 1.6 4 cylinder.
A: This feels just as good to drive as the Mirage and kinetic, but the comfort is by far behind the other 3.
L: Yeah it doesn’t feel as nice as the others
A: Fuel economy is on par with the others being 5.8 L/100km.
Driving back, they discuss if this car has what they are looking for, at first it seems this car doesn’t reach the highest of the others, until..
L: Wait, I remember this car getting absolutely superb reviews on the reliability front!
A:Oh.. really?
L: Yeah, if I remember correctly, most magazines said it was probably the most reliable car in this segment.
J: Well, it might be worth giving this car a shot with Birgitta then.
Having decided that, they head back, park and return the keys to Emil
Car moves on to the next round!
To be continued..
@tsarchasm - Levatio SEL
Last stop before lunch, a Levatio dealer. At 11:40 they park and head inside. They are greeted by a fine and sharp looking woman who introduces herself as Ella
J: We’re looking for a Levatio SEL, do you have any in the showroom?
E: Yes right over here, follow me.
Ella leads them to a yellow SEL
E: I’m just going to get the key, I’ll be right back.
A:Hmm yeah.. like the pictures im not that impressed by the looks. It’s not ugly but compared to the others we’ve looked at it’s not up to par.
Ella arrives back with the key
J: Ah yeah thanks
E: Just tell me if you need anything else!
They unlock the car and get inside. Here they are greeted with a more basic interior, just like the Alouette and Hwaseung, but this one feels very very nice to the touch. Jakob fires up the 1.2 3 cylinder and heads onto the open road.
J: Well.. this engine definitely isn’t as smooth as the others, maybe not surprising when it’s a 3 cylinder. It’s still pretty drivable though, it feels similar to the Kinetic.
A: From here it feels as comfy as the others.
J: Yeah from the driver’s seat I would agree on that, fuel usage is also fairly ok, with it currently getting 6.2 L/100KM.
On their way back they kept discussing the car. After some back and forth the trio decided that even if the car is similar on the drive feel, its looks lets it down and keeps it from being considered any further. So they park the car and head for lunch.
Eliminated based on looks
The engineering is good, but it’s sadly not enough to carry the car. All stats are a good chunk above average and there really isnt much to comment on tuning wise either since most of it’s good. Only minor niggle is that you’ve extended the readline a bit too much which means torque falls off considerably, but since you’ve gone with a CVT you’re able to get away with it, so in the end it only hurts your reliability.
A fairly well engineered car let down by the design. You were really close to breaking the top 5 but competition up here is tight and thus you’re not moving on.

It has been brought to my attention that people in the UK cant see the images because they are hosted through Imgur, I’m working on a solution for this
Is there any reason that you can’t use the picture upload service provided here?
Let’s see, 5 cars left, 7th-9th still open. Next round will be a tight fight.
A solution for the images has now been found.
For future reference, I uploaded the images to Imgur and then downloaded them from Imgur. This downsized the images by alot but kept 95% of quality.
If you experience any other issues, please tell me!
---- Round 2 ----
The Grand-Kids list (Part 2)
@Kreator - ACZ Tyke H3C
After finishing their lunch at a local restaurant the hunt resumes. The next stop is the ACZ dealer. Arriving at 13:30 they enter.
L: Is that it over there?
Lisa points towards a blue small car across the showroom floor.
J: Noooooo.. that can’t be it. Its so fucking small!
As the group walks over to the car, a fine salesman walks over to them
?: Hello! I’m Filip. Do you guys need any help today?
L: Yeah we’re looking for a Tyke H3C.
F: Well.. your looking right at it.
J: Oh wow so it is this thing. I’m so much smaller than I expected.
F: Well, why don’t you take a look around and come back to me when you wanna take it for a spin.
*As they start looking closer they all remark that the styling isn’t really that impressive, not compared to the other cars they’ve looked at so far. As they prepare for the testdrive, a problem arises.
A: Uhh.. I’m pretty sure we all won’t fit in there.
L: Yeah, I’m probably gonna go for a drive by myself in this thing.
Lisa gets in and starts the 900cc 3 cylinder and heads out on the road. Out on the drive Lisa remarks on how easy the Tyke is to drive. Definitely the best so far. However it’s quite uncomfortable with both a fairly basic interior and bump suspension. She concludes the test drive and heads back to the dealership.
A: How was it?
L: It was okay. I think we should bring Birgitta back here.
J: How so?
L: Well it’s good to drive, small and quite okay on fuel.
A: Alright I have no objections.
Car moves on to the next round!
To be continued..
@supersaturn77 - SYEON pokke 1.5 Envi
Arriving at 15:00 at the SYEON dealership they are greeted by a saleswoman dressed in white formal shirt, she introduces herself as Maja
M: Hello guys, you need any help today?
A: Yeah, do you happen to have any Pokke’s in stock
M: Yes we do!
Maja leads them over to a green SYEON Pokke and the grandkids get to inspecting it
J: I like the look of it, but I feel it’s a bit aged.
A: This interior is quite good as well, it’s a bit basic but the quality feels fantastic.
L: Its also big enough for us all to go for a ride, so lets go.
Andreas takes the driver’s seat and turns the key. The 1.5 Inline 4 springs to life. He puts the car in drive and they head out
A: The driving feel is quite nice. It’s definitely on the lower side of the cars we tested today, but its definitely not bad.
L: The comfort is also fairly good, the suspension is a bit bumpy but overall its nice.
A: Fuel consumption seems to be what’s expected, it’s currently saying 6,2 L/100km.
J: Soo.. do we think this has done enough right to be further considered?
A: Well.. The car is certainly ok but honestly, being around average I don’t think is enough. Especially when compared to some other cars we tested.
L: Yeah I agree, nothing is that wrong here but some of the other cars have the edge that this thing is missing.
Having decided on the SYEON’s fate, they head back to the dealership and prepare to head to the next stop.
Eliminated based on a mix between looks and engineering
While yes, the design is a part of the reason this car was eliminated, its far from being a bad design, and it doesn’t really tell everything. On the whole I quite like the look. But in my opinion it feels a bit too much like late 90s instead of a mid-00s car and it lacks some of the complexity of cars landing higher up on the scoreboard. But like I said the design is really good and I really don’t have many comments on it.
The engineering is also fairly good with a mix of scores both above and below average. However sadly, with how tight the competition is here in the top 10, that sadly doesn’t quite cut it. The weakest part of the engineering is the price, which is nearly at the cap. The tuning is good and I don’t have many pointers for you. The biggest miss is the suspension where you’ve left both comfort and drivability on the table. Apart from that there isn’t really much wrong.
With how tight competition is, being around average isn’t enough to carry this car further and thus its journey ends here.
@Hilbert - Eltrè Whirl 1.0 Supérieur Elite HiGlass
Next up on the list is the Eltrè dealership. Arriving at 16:00 they head through the big doors and an interestingly dressed saleswoman who introduces herself as Eléa.
E: What are you guys looking for today?
J: We’re looking for a Whirl if you have any?
E: Yes, yes of course, we have a light blue one over here.
Eléa leads them through the dealership to a very light blue Whirl. As she goes to get the car ready for the test drive, the three grandkids take a closer look.
A: Holy shit.. the front window extends so far, didn’t realise that from the photos.
J: The visibility is quite good with its small pillars. The interior also is quite nice with a good amount of premium trimmings.
L: I mean yeah but the quality isn’t as nice on this one as most of the others.
E: Everything is ready for the test drive now if you guys wanna head out.
J: Shall we?
Jakob fires up the 950cc 3 cylinder and drives out of the dealership
A: The comfort is quite good I would say, despite the hard suspension and unsmooth engine.
J: Drivability is a bit behind but god damn.. this fuel consumption is insane. 3.9 L/100km is amazing.
L: Whoa, that’s by far the best we’ve seen thus far.
A: Yeah I think that alone is enough to give a reason for birgitta to look at this car.
Car moves on to the next round!
To be continued..
@oldmanbuick - Constellation N112 CE2
The second to last stop for the day is the Constellation dealer. At 16:40 they park at the dealership and head inside. Immediately spotting a blue N112 they head over to take a look.
L: Well it looks better then the pictures we saw. But I still think it’s lacking a bit compared to other cars we’ve looked at. Definitely not ugly but missing something.
A: Out of all the cars we’ve looked at, it probably has the worst interior. Cheaper materials and the quality feel is lacking here.
L: Let’s go for a test drive then. Jakob, could you go get a salesperson so we can go for a test?
J: Yeah sure.
Jakob spots a salesman and heads over to him and gets the key. He heads back to the group and with Lisa at the wheel they get going. She fires up the 1.2 3 cylinder and away they went.
A: Bhwooa.. even though the suspension is fairly comfy, the rest really lacks behind. The lower quality interior and this quite unsmooth engine really rattles me back here.
J: Yeah agreed.. hows the driving experience Lisa?
L: Yeah its lacking a bit, fuel consumption is fairly good at least, 5.7 L/100km isn’t half bad.
A: I don’t think this warrants coming back here with birgitta I feel like.
J: It’s lacking in some of our top priorities so I agree.
Having decided that this car doesn’t have what it takes they drive back and head out for their final stop
Eliminated due to engineering
The design is overall not bad. The rear is good and here I don’t have much to say apart from that it’s fairly well put together. If I were to change something, I would change the location of the rear reflectors to be incorporated into the black plastic “diffusor” trim, but that’s honestly just nitpicking. The front is much the same, being quite okay as well. Here I have a few more pointers however. For one, I have a love/hate feel with the headlights. From some angles they look fairly good and from some, quite a bit less. There is also some flatness and emptiness on the front which I would’ve liked to see something done with, either moving the license plate up and putting some kind of grill design where it was just filling the emptiness with some molding. By far the side of this car is its weak point. I’m really not a fan of the big square indicator nor the long indent going across the whole side of the car. Overall this design is good but it does lack when compared to others in the top 10.
On the engineering, most of the stats are over average. However, the drivability and comfort really screwed you. The are quite far behind the rest of cars that made it this far and sadly since they are 3 star priorities you lose a lot of score form them being this low. Even if the other scores are a bit above average, it isn’t enough to carry the car higher up on the scoreboard, and like I said in a previous review, with how high the competition is you can’t afford to fall behind on even one stat. The techpool leaves a lot to be desired and you’ve definitely left a lot on the table here. The engine is overall good but the use of fully forged internals seems unnecessary and costly. Other than this most engineering choices are fine and just mostly lack some more fine tuning.
With fairly good engineering and quite okay looks it earned itself a place in the top 10 but sadly not further and thus is eliminated.
@Happyhungryhippo - Yamaguchi Tesuryo 1000DI Royal
Final stop, the Yamaguchi dealer. They arrive at 17:15, just before closing. They head inside and are greeted by a well dressed saleswoman who introduces herself as Emma.
E: Hi guys! Welcome to Yamaguchi. Let me know if you need anything and just so you know, we close in 45 minutes so feel free to look around but if you wanna test drive something you’ll have to be quick.
A: Yeah sure! Do you have any Tesuryo’s in stock?
E: Yes we do. It’s right over there.
Emma points over to a goldish Tesuryo.
E: Do you want to test drive it?
A: Yes please.
E: Okay I will get the key and prepare it for you!
As Emma goes and prepares for the test drive the grandchildren start looking at the car.
J: Oof this thing does not look good
L: Yeah this styling is horrible.
J: Do we even need to test drive it? I really doubt it will be good enough to save it.
A: Common, give it a chance at least. For instance this interior is quite nice with good premium materials and a fairly okay quality.
Emma arrives back with the key
E: Are we ready for a drive then?
A: Yes!
Andreas takes the key from Emma and starts the 1L 3 cylinder and goes for the last test drive of the day.
J: I do have to admit that the comfort is pretty good. The engine feel very unsmooth but its good regardless.
A: The driving feel is fairly okay, quite understeery and it doesn’t blow me away. Fuel consumption is okay, 6.0 L/100km.
L: Well do we think it has enough to overcome its looks? Personally I don’t think so.
A: Yeah no I don’t think it does enough either.
They drive back and hand the keys back. With that they’ve now got 5 cars for Birgitta to look at and pick her favorite.
Eliminated based on looks
Being quite frank. This is by far the worst looking car in the top 10. The front looks more than an alien then a car and the rear looks like that halo brute meme. Part is this body as i really despise it and part is your design. Its back to the drawingboard on this one and I cant say anything other then start over from scratch and look at some inspiration.
Engineering is fairly good with it mostly lacking in drivability and price. Other than that its mostly above average but once again, competition is high and it just doesn’t cut it. Even though the stat are good, there is a lot that could be gained from fine tuning. The quality usage should definitely be looked over as well as the suspension tuning. Most of the engineering choices are solid but like I said the fine tuning and slider need to be looked over. This car had more potential here, maybe even to get it into the top 5.
With the looks, this car has done well to make it this car but the engineering can only carry it so far so this is where your journey ends.
