Its probably because of the raytraycing, in the desgin studio they are good.
I take it you turn on transparency in the rt settings? It kinda makes all the glass look like crap
I just use the “High” preset, I don’t think I’ve ever touched the settings themselves
To be fair, that’s the blobby way contemporary Kias looked, so… can’t knock me for accuracy, lol
---- The Final ----
The end of the road
With the grandkids having chosen 5 cars they think are worthy for Birgitta. Now it’s time for Birgitta to make her choice. So let’s see what her verdict is.
@Kreator - ACZ Tyke H3C
Birgitta was impressed by the very small size of Tyke, as well as the good visibility. She also notes how easy this car was to drive. She was less impressed by the styling of this thing and whoa.. the safety of this thing is.. the critiques described it as more so driving around in a cardboard box than a car. Maybe not surprising with it being this small. She didn’t like the comfort much, the hard suspension rattled her to bits and the less than premium interior didn’t help. Being priced at just 13600 dollars it definitely does make it an attractive buy but with the downfalls it doesn’t quite reach the top of her list.
The styling is this car’s main letdown. Like I mentioned in a previous review, I really don’t like this body. It needs some serious molding and torture work too be made good looking. I’m not a fan of the “Fried egg” headlights. Except for the headlights the front is okay with not much to complain about. On the rear I like that you blanked some of the rear window, it makes it look way better as otherwise that rear window is way too big in my opinion. But there is no getting away from this body’s weird curves on the rear which destroys any design put on it. On the whole it’s okay, mostly let down by the body selection.
The engineering is good, as to be expected from a car that’s made it this far. You’ve achieved good drivability and reliability, with the drivability being the best of all entries. While the reliability isn’t the best of all cars it’s certainly up there with the top. The price is also good with it being the cheapest in the top 5 and only 600 from the cheapest in the whole challenge. You also have the chipset SVC out of all entries. With all this is clear why you scored so high up. But sadly you also reached the lowest safety score of all entries as well as comfort which is far behind the rest. The fuel economy is better than average but with a 900cc engine, CVT and 750kg I feel there was more to give here, not sure if it would’ve been enough to bump you up a place but still. Most engineering choices were good, but techpool and quality usage does leave some room where you could’ve cut down on the cost which would’ve gained you some budget to increase the comfort.
Overall a solid effort and earned its spot.
@the-chowi - Billancourt Mirage HB
Birgitta was extremely won over by the design of the Mirage. It’s probably her favorite looking car of the 5 cars the grandkids chose. While she felt the drivability was a bit behind the Tyke however they waaay better comfort more than made up for it. The safety of the Mirage was also reported to be way way better then the Tyke. However all this goodness came at a cost. Both the cost to service this car and its reliability was below what Birgitta was looking for. While this car offered a lot of what Birgitta wanted, as a package it didn’t deliver as much as some other cars.
This is one of my favorite designs in this whole challenge, only second to the Citrus 35. From the looks of it its based on the 2nd gen Megane but honestly this thing looks better then the Megane. I don’t know how you managed that but good work. As you can imagine, I don’t really have much to comment here beyond “Good job” soo.. uuhh.. good job!
The engineering is quite good. Comfort is the stand out with it being very very good. It is the highest in the top 5 and 2nd highest of all entries. Drivability is also what’s to be expected from a car that’s made it this far. Reliability is also a stand out, but not in a good way. It’s both way below the other that made it to the top 5 and way below the average. Since it’s a 3 star priority it sadly affects you quite negatively. The SVC is also quite behind the others with it being close to the bottom of all entries. Price is 17000, which is around the price point most people in the top 5 landed on. Fuel economy and safety is around average. Most engineering choices are good but you used quite a lot of more “hightech” options which hurts your reliability and leaves less room for quality usage.
On the whole a good effort which earned its spot on the list. But with 2 stats being far behind it can’t quite reach the top 3.
@vero94773 - Hwaseung Asilar XE⁵
Birgitta was impressed by the design of the Asilar. Nearly as much as the Mirage. She also liked the driving feel of the car. Offering a similar driving experience as the others. After hearing how good the reliability was supposed to be on this car, Birgitta was excited to look at the Asilar, hoping it would be outstanding in the other aspects as well. Sadly it didn’t fully deliver on what she was expecting. That doesn’t mean she disliked it, because she didn’t. It offered good service costs, good fuel economy and good safety. Though she felt it was a bit more uncomfortable than the others. But even with her liking this car a lot it was just nipped at the finish line by the Whirl and Kinetic.
Just like the Mirage, the design is spot on. For me it doesn’t quite reach the same height as the Mirage though. Truthfully I can’t really tell why, it just doesn’t hit the same sweet spot. But yeah not much to say other than fantastic job.
Engineering is spot on as well, as expected by a car in the top 3. Not much to comment on here either. The only thing I would say is that your focus on reliability ended up hurting you in the end. I feel a bit of a hit on the reliability to up the comfort would’ve yielded a better end result.
But fantastic job anyway and congrats!
@Hilbert - Eltrè Whirl 1.0 Supérieur Elite HiGlass
Having taken a closer look at the Eltré, Birigitta feels it doesn’t quite reach the heights of the Mirage nor the Asilar in terms of design. But with how great the fuel economy and price was, Birigitta was more than prepared to overlook the design, it’s not like it was ugly anyway. The drivability she felt was okay, not the best but definitely livable. She wasn’t blown away by the comfort either, not bad but not good either. Even with many aspects being below what Birgitta wanted, the positives outweighed the negatives by quite a bit. However, it was not enough to be the car Birgitta bought.
This design I feel falls a bit behind those of the Mirage and Asilar. I’m not a fan of how slanted the front end is. It kinda gives it a flat and mouseish appearance if that makes sense. I’m not fully sure on the rear either, especially the taillights. Compared to the others it isn’t as refined either with there being some rough edges here and there. Overall the design is good and it shows great skill and effort in designing but it doesn’t quite reach the peak that the others do.
The stats are surprisingly quite average with even some being below the average. But the few stats above average absolutely carry this car. It’s by faar the best fuel economy in the challenge, being just 3,9 L/100km. The average here is 6,6 L/100km so it’s close to ½ of that. The price is also really good at 14900. Tuning is good but a more even spread of quality would’ve probably helped you a bit but yeah, I can’t really argue with results
A fairly good design and an extreme focus on one or two stats carried this car very very close to the top. Good work and congratulations!
@mart1n2005 - Alouette Kinetic
Having looked at the Kinetic, It didn’t win Birgitta over with its looks, at least not in the way the Asilar and Mirage did. But after having driven it, it definitely did. This car offered a complete and very good package. It’s not the best at anything but instead offers a good balance between everything. Easy to drive, comfortable and cheap to run. With this it was clear for Birgitta this was the car for her.
I like the design overall. Its mostly the shape of the body I don’t like. It’s quite round and blobby with a front that’s short and stubby. These proportions I think look weird. The lack of front badging also makes it look really empty. Apart from that I like the design, its well put together and is styled well. It has a pug like appearance which im a fan of.
Engineering wise I really don’t have much to say. You’ve found a good balance between everything and it helped you make it all the way to the top.
Congratulations!

Closing words:
First of, I wanna thank everyone who decided to participate and made this challenge what it was. I could’ve never imaged that the first time I decide to host it would yield this kind of response. Im happy that, for the most part, people seemed to enjoy it.
Now onto what at least I feel is the Elephant in the room. During the duration of the challenge I honestly lost both motivation and inspiration for writing which resulted in post’s having less quality than what I aimed for at the start. For this I apologize, and to anyone who is upset and feel their car didn’t get a good quality review I’m truly sorry. I’m not sure if I put to much pressure on myself or if tried to put to much effort into this challenge, in the end it doesn’t really matter as the fact remains that I’m honestly not happy with how these last few rounds turned out. But I felt it was better to get them out than to wait however long it would take for me to get my motivation back. Honestly, knowing that its now finished really feels like lifting a heavy weight of my back.
That however doesn’t mean I regret hosting, because i certainty don’t. This was an amazing experience learning wise and it did make me happy that it was received mostly well. I felt getting an insight on both how others design cars and getting ideas and inspiration I can add to my own cars was really valuable. Getting a sight in on the hosting side of things has also opened my eyes and really makes me respect all hosts way more than I previously did. But now having hosted I feel this is not something I will comeback to again as I feel it really wasn’t my thing and I don’t see myself fit to host. But still.. thank you to everyone how made this challenge into what it was.
Lastly, I’m open to all critique, both positive and negative. So please tell me all your opinions on both me as a host and the challenge as a whole. It will serve as a good way for both me and any others future hosts to either not repeat the same mistakes and/or take concepts liked by the community and incorporate/improve on them. Below you’ll find the spreadsheet as well. Feel free to have a look and poke around as much as you want. Its of course free to copy stuff and use for your own stuff if you so wish, as long as you don’t claim that you made it all by yourself ![]()
I am thoroughly amazed my stupid little bath toy made it to the top 5. Every time I seem to think I’m being clever by not using all of the budget, it backfires. GG to the other entrants and special thanks to the host, it was a close and fun challenge.
GGs everyone and thanks a ton for hosting, Ritz. It was a genuinely fantastic time the whole way and there was a lot to learn as well!
ritz da goat
I would bet that you are the only person here who is disappointed with your hosting or this challenge
From my perspective, you are being too hard on yourself and your hosting, especially for your first time hosting. While the later rounds were a bit slower in coming, the reviews across the board were much more detailed than the reviews that are given in many, probably even most, challenges. After all, you have both in character and OOC reviews of the cars with pretty deep dives on both the design and engineering. It’s also very easy to lose steam on challenge judging as the extent of the work becomes clearer as it goes on, and it’s happened in many other challenges here. I’ve done it myself before.
I also did a bit of a dive into the spreadsheet, and while there are a few things I would have done differently, there is a lot of discretion in how judging is done, and there are experienced hosts who definitely do things differently than I have. The calculations I ran also ended up mostly being just a more complicated way of getting to largely the same results you did.
All of this is to say that I think that you would be well within your rights to feel proud–not disappointed–about how you’ve handled your first time hosting. If you have decided that you’re just not interested in hosting, that’s all well and good. But I certainly don’t think you should feel like you are incapable or incompetent at hosting.
Personally, I hope that you’ll feel like hosting in the future again. My guess is that there are others out there who share the same feeling. (After all, I think @Kreator and @NotChris07 beat me to expressing these same thoughts in a much less wordy manner!)
