ABS-01P2 | 1998 Rising Sun Racing

Welcome to Phase 2

Let’s go tear up some public roads

EDIT: Clarified Techpool rules, no more dipping into negative TP
Added 1.5 million to techpool, (6 - 8.5m)

I would like to start this by thanking everyone who entered in to our inaugural round, ABS-01P1 | Rising Sun Sports, we got some 10 odd entries. A slow but good start. But now that the competition is over, we can let Phase 2 begin.

We would love to see previous entrants modify their prior entry, you don’t have to, but we think it would be interesting. You will see why in the brief below.

All credit for the art goes to both @Shitsoom and whatever artists made the pieces he used. He, along with fellow ABS- competitors, also made the ruleset.

We running wild…

So, this time we decided to go for a more unorthodox theme. We will be having you make MY1998 Japanese sports cars, again, but this time with owner/tuner shop installed modifications. This means a notable performance bump, along with different visual style.

The original idea was to only let previous P1 entrants actually enter into P2, using modified versions of their previous entry. That seemed needlessly harsh, so instead we recommend you do that, but you don’t have to. Everyone is free to enter

For reference cars, check out sites and tuners like Veilside, Mugen, and Powerhouse Amuse

… and we restless

You know the drill, look thru the categories below. Your car has to meet all requirements to be accepted.

There are a few overarching rules

  1. Don’t use adv. trim settings to mess with the tires, width or height.
  2. Submit the same .car file you drive in Beam (if you choose to do that segment)
  3. Don’t edit the car in Beam

View Chassis Rules

The rules are roughly the same as the ones in Phase 1, so here they are.

  • Set Model Year to 1998
  • Wheelbase min. of 2.4m for cars
  • Have some sort of corrosion protection on the chassis, galv. will do.

And that is all for that part. Pretty easy, no?

View Engine Rules

She wants to move

We opened up the ruleset from P1 in the tuner spirit, this time you have much more power potential, so get to squeezing that engine for all it’s worth

  • Set year to 1998
  • N/A max displacement is 3.2l
  • For F/I, it is 2.2l
  • Min. reliability is 65, as a tip, put techpool where you run quality (injectors and block)
  • Max Loudness of 65, don’t make a machine gun
  • Run 98 octane unleaded

In short, don't make a machine gun or a bomb

View Trim Rules

Cho Large

Trim rules have also been opened up a bit, push it to the limit

  • Set year to 1998
  • min. 35 Drivability
  • min. 25 Sportiness
  • min. 10 Comfort
  • min. 40 Safety
  • min. 55 Reliability
  • max. 13L/100km
  • Must Seat 2 or more
  • Use sports compounds, max width is 255mm
  • Max Downforce 120kg (combined)
  • Race interiors are allowed
  • Sport Undertray and Race Diffuser Banned

Not very hard now is it?

View budget and economy rules

Far East Movement

As for the budgets, they are up from P1 (duh), but still not bottomless

You are afforded $26000 approx. cost, we are still in the middle of the lost decade.

SVC stands at a max of $1900

You get $8.5M of techpool to play with, spend it wisely and that 26k will take you far.

Don’t go below 0 techpool in any category

Quality range is from 0 to +5

And that is that for the rules, good luck and happy building!

View the scoring method

Scoring works exactly the same way it did in P1, but we will retread that old ground again here

Looking good is half the battle

Your car will be judged by public vote released soon after the competition ends. The key to a good score is a high quality car, and equally importantly, good images of it.

The show runners will add their notes, and pick their favorites to give a little gold star to, these wont affect your final score

Barracuda

Your engineering score will be based on the stats of the car you submit. It is a simple “more is better” game. This time however, there are no engineering stat multipliers, the more the merrier.4.

OPTIONAL

Run the Touge

This part is optional, you don’t need to do this, but you should. This is a BeamNG driving part, hence why it isn’t mandatory, but a cool little treat.

Your laptime score is just based on your placement. Faster is better, keep 4 wheels in at all times. Record the laptime and upload it on Youtube, then link it to us. This places you into a second scoreboard with other Beam drivers, in addition to the main scoreboard. You can have someone else drive for you

The Track is Italy Asphalt Hillclimb 1, standing start

See instructions

Enter the Cargeon

Entering in works exactly like it did in our other challenges. You will need a few things:

  1. A .car file of your entry

  2. Pictures of your entry

  3. Optional: a recording of your laptime

Put damn good effort into the pictures, these WILL have an impact on your style score, trust me, I speak from experience on this

To enter your car into the competition, you can send it to us in 1 of 3 ways

  1. Reply to the thread, simple
  2. PM the file to me, simple
  3. Enter it into our Discord server

Not hard, is it?

The deadline is 2025-06-24T21:00:00Z, you have a 1-day grace period

Happy competing, see the comments below for more ABS- related bullraisin

A community effort

To keep it short, we have a small Discord server where we publish drafts of our rulesets ahead of time for collaboration. This is to try and make them the best they can be.

We just want to have a community where cool people can hang out, so join us if you feel so inclined.

Also, one more thing. I will be gone around 26- days from now, so we need more people to actually run the show. Come around and have a chat about it with us

Oh we ain’t using round 1’s submissions? I don’t mind people using my car as a base.

You can but you don’t have to. I suggest you do though.

I also have to announce that the rate of release will likely drop in the coming months due to my military service getting in the way. This will likely mean longer deadlines

I think this should be the trim year, not the model year - assuming you’re carrying over your entry from Phase 1.

In my defense, I didn’t write the rules :joy:

Use 1998 for model and trim, it is for balancing reasons, not for anything else, really

techpool of $6M total?

because in 01P1 we had a total of $8,5M to play with

does that mean if I use my car from there I have to now ‘downgrade’ it with more budget but less overall tech?

Actually, good point

The added 3 years of time should largely make up the difference, but I will have a word with the guy who made the ruleset. Our bad, I agree, it doesnt make much sense.

Unfortunately, the guy who made the rules is banned on the forums, so I will relay his answer to you as soon as I can

Also, there is nothing stopping you from going to 0 techpool now, which should save you some money

I figured the 3 years newer would balance it out, but you shouln’t be able to potentially lose tech you had over 3years
thx for the reply

Ok, hey, I argued a little bit and I managed to get you the missing 2.5 mill

back up to 8,5 mill?
fair play and speedy reaction <3

You tend to get a fair and quick reaction out of a man when you twist his balls into a knot :joy:

Is this necessary? I mean, if this is supposed to be a continuation of the P1, then it should say 1998 for the trim year instead.

Just set everything to 1998, next time we will write the rules differently

Again, I will twist his nuts in a knot for making such a weird decision

I’ll keep mine a '95 with '98 trim for realism sake

Get him for the SVC too. I have no clue if he even tested it with a turbo setup.
