Today I decided I was tired of keeping my frustrations to myself while working on my cars. So, I guess I’m going to use this thread to just talk about the happenings in my life, whether that be working on my real cars, rc cars, or just having some fun experiences that can be shared.
A few months ago, I uncovered my father’s 1967 Ford Mustang in my grandparents’ messy garage. It has been in my family since it was purchased off the lot by my great grandmother, and handed down through the generations. My father tore it apart 25+ years ago, but then (rather unfortunately) met my mother. And ever since then, it has been rotting away under a tarp. That is, until today.
I unfortunately didn’t take really any pictures, I was just excited to finally work on it. I began by installing the new intake manifold, which was relatively easy. Afterwards I installed a new oil pump, which was a rather large mess. In order to do that, I had to take the oil pan off. I noticed some odd discoloration on the crankshaft and pistons. Turns out, this engine had overheated. Twice. It left chuncks of oil inside the pan and the pickup.
I scrubbed the pan out, washed it, scrubbed it again, and then used acetone to really make sure that it was clean. Before the day was done, I had to quickly grab some primer and re-prime the pan.
