aLittleWhile's Superthread - 1966 Alison Released

From here on out all of my creations will be going here. I’ve decided to discontinue my garage thread and Aulrusso and start fresh. Some of these cars will fall under a brand, some won’t. Some may start out unbranded, but end up lumped into a brand later on. I may tune a car or two designed by other people here on the forums, and those will have their own category as well. Some of the cars featured here may end up having a story behind them, or they may just feature a quick little blurb that tries to give you an idea of what I had in mind when I designed the car. If you’re interested, check back every now and then, I tend to release a new car every week or two.

There are open source cars available in this thread. If you tune them and happen to post your tuned example here on the forums I’d appreciate it if you could give me credit for the original and maybe tag me so I can see what you’ve done with it.

Take a fairly mundane early 70s compact, tune up the suspension, and swap a hot cam into its engine and chances are you’ll get something a lot like the Arnett. While quite a ways off from serious sports cars of the time, the Arnett was a strong contender for folks looking for a fun, yet rather affordable and reasonably practical automobile. Its 100 horses and respectable handling, given its simple suspension technology and hard compound tires, made it a tempting buy for young people who wanted a little bit of speed without having to venture too far from economy car prices.

I love how all the fixtures are all perfectly lined up, very satisfying.

Haha. I can be very particular about the way fixtures are arranged. I spend way more time designing cars than I really should considering how simple my designs are. A lot of it is just slighty tweaking placement and sizing, and then lining it all up to my liking, only for me to look back on it a few days later and find something about the car I don’t like.

Also, while I’m at it, I wanted to ask if anybody out there knows of a workaround for headlights like the Arnett’s going transparent when taking a screenshot with the Hide Buildings command. Last time I ran into this problem I was lazy and just filled them in with white, but it looked kind of goofy. This time I cut out the car from the background, but using this method made the Arnett’s picture look a little rough around the edges, literally.

Well, looks like I’ve got a little Christmas present for you guys. I’ve decided I’m going to make a good chunk, if not all, of my cars open source, starting with the Arnett. Downloads for each car will be available at the bottom of their respective posts. If you decide to tune one of my cars and post it here on the forums I’d appreciate it if you could give credit to me for the original and perhaps tag me so I can see what you’ve done with it.

Merry Christmas!

Allow me to introduce you to the Alison, a fun little runabout designed to give folks with a tight budget a chance to have a good time on the road. The car loves narrow, twisty roads, but it can just as easily haul 4 people through city traffic and gracefully fit into cramped parking spaces, meaning you won’t have to buy a 2nd car to carry out your daily duties.

A cheap car that can haul 4 people in relative comfort, have fun on twisty roads, is cheap, and can fit into small parking spaces. You’ve been beaten to the punch I’m afraid, and with one being produced every 10 seconds, you have no chance in the maket, beaten by a full 7 years.

I never said it was a successful car :stuck_out_tongue:
