Always more Torque and less hp than original Engines?

Hey there,

i wanted to seek some advice on a problem i had since i first purchased the game, and still have with the latest build.

I like trying to recreate real world engines ( Opel Engines, to be specific ) and using the real life engines bore, stroke, compression ratio and correct components ( for example DOHC 16 valve, multi point fuel injection ) i always fall short on horsepower or have too much torque.

Recently tried to replicate the X20XEV Engine, which is a 1998cc DOHC 16 Valve, 86,0mm x 86,0mm bore/Stroke, 10,8:1 Compression ratio, has a Bosch Multipoint Injection System.

The real engine develops 136hp @ 5800 rpm, along with 185 Nm of torque @ 3400 rpm using 95 octane fuel.

I either could achieve the correct torque, but having only 120 hp @ 6000 rpm. Or i could reach the target 136 hp, but with 210 Nm torque.

That is the problem i have experienced since i bought the game, i always happen to have either too much torque, or not enough hp. I have to use a higher camshaft profile to achieve significant hp output, but that also shifts the torque and power band upwards higher rpm ranges that it should have, compared to the real world engine.

Would be cool if someone would have advice on how to replicate ( or at least get closer ) to the real engine. Thanks in advance!

Hi,
this try should be close enough, it’s within 5% of the power and torque values of the original engine. That’s good enough. The right RPM values are always difficult to achieve in the game, because it’s not a simulation but a reasonably simplified parametrization. But you can find a compromise to stay within few hundred RPM most of the time.

the engine is spec’d at 188 Nm, not 186

Could you upload the engine file as well? Its pretty close to the original specs.

The Engine before 1999 was rated at 185 Nm, after 1999 it was at 188 Nm

Dunno, I’ve only tried to make one in sandbox. I tried to make the BMW M52B28 (193BHP/285NM). Mine ended up as 240BHP/278NM. More BHP and less torque.

Granted the M52B28 was deliberatly restricted by BMW in the intake manifold and throttlebody to get it under 194BHP.
(194 BHP gave a much higher insurance in Germany than 193BHP at the time BMW made the engine).
When removing the restrictins the engine output 220-222BHP. Its still under the 240BHP I got ingame.
The restrictions is the reason the 2.8 only output 1 more BHP than the 2.5 (M50B25)

I’m having the same difficulties trying to recreate real world engines. I think that somehow the Torque drops too slowly after reaching its peak, therefore the peak BHP is shifted towards higher RPM. Anybody who feels the same?
Short example - I tried to recreate the BMW M54B30. IRL it has 231 HP @ 5900 and 300 Nm @ 3500, what i managed to get were 231 HP @ 6400 / 309 Nm @ 3800)

And there’s another thing I just stumbled upon by trying to rebuild the Mitsubishi 4B11T from the Lancer Evo X FQ-400. This engine is supposed to give ~520 Nm Torque @ 3500 rpm and 410 HP @ 6500 rpm. I tried to make the turbine very small to get early spool (57.0 mm), but still the boost starts way too late, so my peak torque is at 4400 rpm. And it’s way too low, only 470 Nm. Therefore, the peak power (something ~410 HP) output is at ~7400 rpm instead of being at 6500. This is slightly annoying ^^
