Capable of reaching 170 miles per hour and accelerating from 0-62 miles per hour in about 5.2 seconds, the Andrionetta Myrmidon was among the fastest street legal cars of its day. Not only was it fast, but was a competent cornerer as well, capable of pulling over a G in slower speed corners and just a bit under one when cornering at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour. The Myrmidon owes its great speed to its lightweight space frame chassis and aluminum body, as well as its 3.8 liter aluminum single cam V8, which delivers 300 horsepower to the rear wheels via a 5 speed manual transmission. Its superb handling wouldn’t be possible without the engine being mounted sideways behind the driver, a very new concept for a road car at the time, plus its 4 wheel independent suspension system tuned by Andrionetta for spirited driving.
This car may have no radio, but the loud music its engine makes is sure to put a smile on the face of many car enthusiasts the moment they put their foot down. Its sporty, but stylish interior beckons you to hop in, turn the key, and fly off up into the mountains. While a loud, fast, impractical, gas guzzling, high maintenance, and at times scary car certainly isn’t for everyone, if you are looking for a top of the line speed demon its hard to go wrong with an Andrionetta Myrmidon.
