Just checking to c if there are any hunters or fishers amongst us. I will be heading out early tomorrow chasing a wild boar for xmas lunch with the family as is our tradition. My family brings food rather than gifts
My family hunts. My brother actually got a nice 6 point buck this year, and since we had also hit a deer with our suburban, our freezer is packed full!
Lol you would love my place then 12000 acres of Red deer and Rusa and we regularly produce 6+6 and occasionally 8+8 in the Reds but the Rusa is much better eating and more forgiving to cook with. You know what is worse than hauling a stinking feral pig thru mud…having to drag a dirty old Billy goat thru the mud…No pigs today but 3 feral goats and a fox.
What does Fox taste like?
do you really want to know!? One rule my dad made if we kill something we must eat it at least once… and let me say behind Dog and Camel its not good at all fox is similar to dog and tastes like digested rotting meat [think about what they eat] … And everything that can be legally hunted in Australia is introduced pest species (with the exception of kangaroo’s [but highly regulated] and dingoes that have a bounty on their pelts [which I do not agree with) so its a conservation thing foxes, cats and horses [yes Horses they destroy native Flora because of how the eat, they carry seeds in their shit and hooves, they compete with Kangaroo’s wallaby’s etc for food and they are very very very aggressive in the wild towards any other creatures] have been the worst introduced pests to Australia with cats in particular only behind the Cane toad in terms of damage to the native ecosystems.
I will still say that it is fairer and more humane to hunt Feral animals with rifles or bows than what is currently the official plan for Feral species which is to drop 1080 baits from the air and hope that ferals eat them and not natives [1080 kills everything even herbivores as it is so strong it can poison the grass that it sits on] and its a slow process and I cant see any way that it is humane of fairer on the animal than a well placed heart/double lung shot.
Yep, I was curious and now I know
Yeah I agree with you regarding hunting vs poisoning. Seems as irresponsible to dump poison as it was to introduce the invasive species in the 1st place. Indiscriminate and uncontrolled springs to mind.
