[ARM] Automation RestoMod Chapter 41: RED Sky at Night [COMPLETE]

ARM41 - RED Sky at Night

First ARM || Previous ARM

Everything changed after 2023. Nothing was the same. Most people think it was terrible. I agree. Now we need things to distract ourselves. Something unique, different.

Special.

Welcome to Night City. Nearly 20 years after the bombing of Arasaka tower, things are still a bit chaotic. Not the most important thing. We’re here for something else. A young woman, a fixer. She works out of the same building as a fairly awful gang. A client of hers gave her a car. Something different, interesting, unique, old.

1967 Callahan Concord SP 347 Supercharger Package

Issue is, it doesn’t work. Biotechnica owns the fuel market, CHOOH2 is all we’ve got, and this car wants Gasoline. Even then, with everything it lacks on the tech side, driving it would be suicide. So, our client - being the fixer she is - begins to make calls, asking around. Improve my car, and you’ll get some unique gifts in return.

The Rules

  • Clone both the imported model and engine family before you start modding. Nowadays this can all be done with one button of the Car Designer tab in Automation - the one circled red in the photo below.

  • Set all dates (model year, trim year, engine family/variant year) to 2020. It is highly recommended to exit the game and reopen it after cloning it and before updating the dates.

  • Fuel Type must be Methanol

  • Techpool must remain unchanged, however Quality Sliders are free

  • All builds must use the following plate from this mod mounted at least on the rear of the car.

The Priorities

:star: :star: :star:

The Aesthetic

Cyberpunk RED has a gritty vibe, the car must match that. Dark, Brutal, Old. The build and the story must match.

:star: :star:

The Engineering

All it needs to do is match the choices of the mechanics to the choices on the car. Simple as.

:star:

The Execution

How the build comes together is less important than your intent behind it, but how things are put together will function as a tie break.

The Deadline

Assuming no issues with rules and regulations, the challenge shall open on 2026-01-22T23:00:00Z.

The deadline will be 2026-02-22T11:00:00Z assuming all goes well.

Small Extra Thoughts

Yeah, yeah. I know it’s another open around, but I have had this idea sitting around for a while. The theme and vibe might be a bit esoteric, but I really think the idea and vibe is interesting. The Cyberpunk Fandom Wiki is a good source, but this challenge takes place in the time of the RED ttrpg, not the 2077 Video Game. With that, this is my first challenge I have hosted in a while, and I will guarantee to see this challenge rounded out by the time submissions close, considering this is a long running serial challenge.

Clearly an interesting take on ARM, I hope I have the time to finish now unlike ARM40.

I also think that cyberpunk is such a large and well known genre that if someone is unsure about it, it should not be hard to find LOTS of info on the aesthetics.

Present-day technology with a cyberpunk aesthetic? Never heard of that as an ARM premise before…

Now Open for Business

Please leave your gun at the door, the gang wouldn’t want an altercation in their place of business.

Deadline remains as 2026-02-22T11:00:00Z. due to the month long window for submissions, I will not be extending the deadline unless there are circumstances outside of my control.

You hire someone to promote the car?

Sure did.
Cool, who?
This wrestler guy, goes by Scott. Let's watch it together, first time.
Oh no.

🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨

AS YOU CAN SEE, WHEN BIG POPPA PUMP COMES TO TOWN, ALL MY HOOCHIES COME AROUND! BUT IT’S JUST A DAMN SHAME THAT WE HAD TO LEAVE THE EAST COAST AND COME TO THIS CESSPOOL CALLED NIGHT CITY. BUT LAST NIGHT, WHEN I WAS KICKING IT IN THE BOOTY-O, PROVING THAT I WAS THE DADDY, THAT I WAS THE KING OF THE NIGHT, I WAS WATCHING TV AND I WATCHED A SIXTY-NINE YEAR OLD WOMAN COME OUT HERE, WHO HAS MORE ARTIFICIAL JUNK THAN A CAN OF TRINI-FIZZ! I SEE OLIVIA FORSYTHE, NUMBER TWO, THE KIBBLE QUEEN, COME OUT HERE, WHO’S BEEN THE BUTT-END OF ALL THE JOKES, COS SHE’S SUPPOSED TO BE THE “LIMOUSINE RIDIN’, VISION 2077, FOOD-SELLIN’, QUEEN OF THE TOWN” BUT I’M SAYING ONE TIME, SHE SHOULD’VE TAKEN A CAB, TAKEN SOME TIME, AND FIXED HER CROOKED TEETH BEFORE SWAPPING THEM FOR EVEN MORE FAKES!

SO I HAD TO ASK MYSELF "IF CONTINENTAL BRANDS WAS GOING TO HIRE “THE KIBBLE QUEEN NUMBER 2”, WHY WON’T THEY HIRE “THE KIBBLE QUEEN”, THE ORIGINAL “KIBBLE QUEEN”, THERESA VALENTINO! NOW I KNOOOOOW THAT BRANDI IS DEAD, GOD REST HER SOUL, BUT OLIVIA FORSYTHE, YOUR CAREER IS DEAD! AND I KNOOOOOW, AS SHE LAYS SIX FEET UNDER, SHE’S STILL STYLIN’ AND PROFILIN’ BECAUSE WHEN YOU USED YOUR LITTLE BRAIN AND STOLE HER NAME, THERE’S ONE THING YOU COULDN’T STEAL, AND THAT WAS HER CLASS! SO WHEN YOU MADE YOUR BROADCAST LAST MONTH, I KNOW I WASN’T ALONE, COS THE PEOPLE AT HOME, ALL THEY DID WAS GRAB THE REMOTE, CHANGE THE CHANNEL TO FSN, AND WATCH ANDREA LEE, A PERSON YOU AND YOUR FRIENDS GOT FIRED, COS YOU’RE A JEALOUS, OLD BASTARD!

SO, OLIVIA FORSYTHE, REMEMBER THIS! IN THIS BUSINESS, THERE’S NEVER BEEN A BIGGER ASS KISSIN’, BUTT-SUCKIN’ BASTARD IN THIS BUSINESS - BUT ALSO IN LIFE, YOU’RE THE BIGGEST ASS-KISSIN’ BACK-STABBIN’ CAR-STEALIN- BASTARD! YOU BELONG WHERE YOU’RE AT: IN CONTINENTAL BRANDS, BECAUSE CONTINENTAL SUCKS ROYALLY!

How does this help sell the car?
We're finished

LMJ DESIGN TAKES ON THE CALLAHAN CONCORD!

In a harsh world, there will always be a place for the things from the past that we once cherished and loved. Like the Callahan Concord. At the same time, the world has changed. The Concord didn’t and suddenly saw itself in a position where it did no longer fit in.

Enter LMJ Design. The most important thing, the engine was totally reengineered. Based on the measurements of the Callahan V8, it now features a billet all aluminium design, 4 valve heads and a larger supercharger, as well as a total redesign to make it able to run on CHOOH2. Power output? 902 hp, meaning that this car now sprints to 100 in 3.8 seconds and tops out a bit above 400 km/h.

The body, with all its subtle modifications to blend into, yet stand out in the gritty world of today, is now partially made of carbon fiber. A 7 speed sequential transmission now sends the power from the engine to a multilink rear axle. Carbon ceramic brakes stops it on a dime. This could as well be a modern car, right? Even some stuff like launch control and adaptive damping now makes for a driving experience you could not even dream of in the 60s.

The interior now means pure bussiness, with carbon fibre bucket seats and a functional, yet sporty redesign.

THE CALLAHAN CONCORD BY LMJ DESIGN. TAKING THE PAST INTO THE FUTURE WITH A BLAST!

I got carried away and realized about halfway through that the only thing left was half the roof, so I ended up making something that’s less high-tech restomod, more contemporary modified car. alas, despite definitely missing the brief, I finished it anyways cause it looked badass

Reviews

2041
Totentaz.
Night. Always Night.
Music. Loud. Heavy. Industrial.

Our client stands against a railing, overlooking the dance floor. Her red dress covering from the collarbone down, flowing to end just shy of the ankles. She grips her hands on the railing, chrome metal arms ending in slight claws reflecting the lights coming off of the dance floor below. She sighs to herself, soft features and long clean black hair are a confusing juxtaposition to the Maelstrom gang members around her, their dirt, grime, salvaged gear. But to her, family.

Tonight, however, is about business. Meeting with people to finally sort out the green metal hunk of junk taking up a parking spot at the bottom of the tower. A night of business for personal pleasure, if one would believe. She turns from the railing, into the closed off section of the club that is the office of the Fixer. Her job.

Inside, sits a single man. Not fitting of the people she makes her company, but useful for this task nonetheless. She moves behind her desk, motioning for the man to speak. He speaks, saying words in regards to factions, companies, groups. Four folk who decided they might be the ones who get to curry her favour, and build her something to be proud of. She listens, the names almost meaningless, she just wants to hear the ideas. So, he starts with one…

Purple Warrior

@AMuteCrypt

The first was a Nomad, finding some odd wrestler-type to ramble off something… She wasn’t sure why the video was related to the car, but whatever. She looks over the specifications, the style, the choices. She doesn’t spend long, however. The choice was fairly quick from looking at the car, and then she moved on.

Report - OOC

Vibe: Nomad, but very minimal work and changes. Can see the idea, but definitely needs more. Also not that much a fan of the colour scheme, personally.

Engineering: Equally minimal changes from the original other than AWD. Not Bad.

Execution: Mentioned by entrant of a rushed car, but it is very much a series of minimal changes outside of a bullbar, a wing, armour plates, rugged tyres and some lighting changes. Small extras were added, but does not feel “enough” to be what I or the client are looking for to represent her.

After the… less than interesting purple car, she moved on to the next one, proposed by the man she listens to.

LMJ Designs

@Knugcab

A sporty one. Road built, constructed for the road. No pensive toward leaving the tarmac. Respectful. She likes the replacements while keeping the intent. Lots of pieces changed, adjusted, removed, replaced. It’s a good pickup. Not a bad second pick.

Report - OOC

Vibe: Road/Sport warrior. Very clearly the original car, but with significant modifications to create a very race-styled car. Also the skull on the grille is funny.

Engineering: Full swap to Carbon Fibre, gearbox, suspension, overall very fitting to the idea of it being a race style car.

Execution: Some small odd bits, but it is otherwise a very well put together.

A solid proposal, something she could be convinced of. Let’s see what lies behind door number three.

ZX Custom

@Leone

Bold. Not much remains of the original car. But it stands out. Nothing is wasted. Everything is specific. A grand choice. Even respects the original colour. A very interesting idea, and even finds time to be accessable.

Report - OOC

Vibe: Road. It’s certainly the Concord. The only part that is original is the front badge and the roof. That’s it. Despite that, you can still see many elements from the original car, such as the arching on the front end and rear end through implication.

Engineering: More changes for materials and performance parts, all matching and fitting to the changes for what it wants to be.

Execution: I am unable to find a single fault. None. Zero. Everything is flawless, put together with expert precision.

A final proposal, something to end the countdown. Hope it’s special.

STAG CORPO

@Mikonp7

Another Nomad. Much more bold and outgoing than the last nomad proposal. Even got some exposed weaponry. How interesting. Certainly something a clan member might want to rumble with. She can respect it. It’s very, very appealing after all.

Report - OOC

Vibe: Nomad as hell. Crazy cuts and shapes whilst still being identifiable as a concord. Could have gone more extreme in diverging from the base car.

Engineering: I cannot see anything that doesn’t match to choices or designs.

Execution: Quite well done, some small rough edges but for the complexity of choices it is done very very well.

She sits. All four proposals put forward to her. A period of thinking follows, silence. The correspondent sits in very awkward silence, waiting for her response. it takes some time, a long moment of silence, before a hand reaches under the desk and pulling out a cred-chip. She speaks, telling the man which one to pursue. He stands, nods, and exits the office. She smiles, interlacing fingers with elbows planted on the desk. A new car for the Maelstrom’s favourite fixer.

Three Weeks Later.

Winner Inside

She takes the barely functional lift down to the garage in the basement. The car finally returned to her after the agreement was made. She slowly walks, wanting to savour the moment, the reveal. It is as she turns the corner, to the isolated spot where her Concord previously sat, that she smiles. The eddies spent, months of work finding jobs, taking cuts… It pays off.

The ZX Custom, her new toy. Her prize. Her jewel.

All hers now.

Final Ranking

4th - @AMuteCrypt - The lack of effort showed through, but I nonetheless appreciated the entry, and the ad was funny.

3rd - @Knugcab - A very good design, just not something that really could compare to the two that placed above it. I adore the changes and work, but it was just slightly under the others.

2nd - @Mikonp7 - Absolute banger. 10/10 car. Nails the Nomad look, and also nails being a proper restomod iterating on the original. I do love it a lot.

1st - @Leone - I mean, did you see the car? It’s not exactly a restomod… but I can still see a lot of elements of my car within the choices made. It’s a crazy looking thing, and I love it.

Rambling and Reflections

So, I had this idea for an ARM round back in April of last year, and was considering running it as a solo challenge, but instead decided to hold off due to a general hesitation to want to host challenges anymore. The idea was to make a canon car for an eventually Cyberpunk RED ttrpg campaign I want to run, with the Fixer client being a character I have had in mind for at least a year since my plans to run a RED campaign fell through.

In spite of that, and despite the STAG not actually winning the challenge, I’m also gonna make that car canon to a Nomad clan in that setting, because I fucking adore the STAG so much. It’s such a great car, and really does just nail the Cyberpunk look in it’s own unique way.

I appreciate all 4 participants, I was fully prepared to get zero entries and be left sitting sad in the mud. But nope! I got to have some fun, do some creative writing, and let people leave a mark on something they’ll never know about.

I hope it was interesting, I know the theme was rough, but everyone did well and has their own takes, opinions and styles on the R. Talsorian Cyberpunk.

good round! while I do have the time, I don’t have the energy to host 42, so I’ll pass off to @Mikonp7. definitely agreed on the stag concord being rad as hell, too - that’s one mean machine.

Happy with third since I didn’t have a lot of time for Automation lately. The build was somewhat rushed.

Also, in case Mikonp7 passes down hosting I can take it up, I could as well say it now it feels like.

Hm. I ran into an obstacle.

I had a good idea for a car model, since I saw that there is a rather accurate body for it, and I think that it is a car that people would like to build on. However, without spoiling too much, the actual car has a rather large wheel diameter for its size. Much larger than the actual body could fit, so my question is what you would prefer?

  1. (If such a body exists), building the car on a less accurate body that still would give a representation that is possible to identify as the actual car, but that would allow for the correct wheel size. Less accurate looks but also possibly the least headache to build on and judge.

  2. Go down in rim size, and overall wheel size, to keep the accurate profile for the tires without using ATS. Could mean somewhat weird aesthetics on the original car and would require ATS and possibly a bit less accurate stats if you wanted to go larger on your finished build.

  3. Keep the correct rim size with the largest profile (LOW!) that will allow for via engineering, enlarge the tires with ATS to get more accurate aesthetics on them. The most correct looks but that also means that already the original car will have somewhat weird and inaccurate stats.

  4. Make a different car altogether. I am not out of options but I thought I had found a good idea…

It should be said that if I choose alternative 1 to 3, it will be a rather “open” round still. Not as open as this one or any of the Mikon rounds, but still more than usual. A bit like ARM35 if someone remember that one. So a bit weird stats is maybe not THAT much of an headache but still.

I don’t think perfect accuracy is really a priority in ARM donors, and it’s hard to imagine a car’s recognizability made or broke on the wheel size.

You know the car better than us, but I’d say 1 or 2 are fine. Whatever you think’s easier to host with.

Of course, #2 could always mean that the car stands on some temporary wheels and tires from something else (I doubt someone would get all that picky regarding PCD and stuff for that). For ARM they are probably going to be changed anyway

Shame I didn’t have time to submit this :frowning:
Congratz to the winner and other participants! good efford!
