ARM39: Poll (Irrelevant! New info in the thread)

Yes, I will host ARM39. However, ATM we’re in a weird spot for challenges (again), with some of them in stable, some of them in beta.

There are reasons why I am not doing the beta switch just yet, but I know a lot of people have done it, and it is probably not far away for me.

The car is done. So, I could put up the challenge in stable rather immediately. Also, the car model in itself lends itself rather well to faux diesels, which I would implement if the challenge would be held in stable, since we have a somewhat well working formula for that.

On the other hand, I could wait until I am on beta and have figured out how stuff works there too. That will mean a delay for an uncertain future, but probably not for extreme amounts of times. That would give all the new possibilities of Al Rilma, but I am not going to figure out a faux diesel ruleset for that, so it would also mean no faux diesels.

So, the choice is yours, I will keep the poll open until wednesday the 24th of september, 7 AM CET, and if you’re interested in joining ARM39, please vote (if you know already now that you’re not going to enter, it will be more helpful if you don’t.

  • Host challenge now. Stable version. Faux diesels.
  • Host challenge somewhere in the future. Beta version. No diesels.

Since I have some diesel cars in my lore, I can tell you that its possible to have credible faux diesels in beta, too.

Yes, I am pretty sure it is possible, but I am probably not going to try to figure out a working ruleset this time at least.

In that case, the “donor car” should be something from a genre that won’t lend itself well to diesel propulsion in real life.

No. The car has already been decided on and will stay no matter the version the challenge will be held on.

Couldn’t something like LNG be used to make faux-diesels?

As stated earlier, I don’t doubt at all that you can make a believable faux diesel for Al Rilma. But see it as just a bonus you will get if the challenge is going to be held in stable. I am not going to figure out how to make the best ruleset for a diesel in Al Rilma at least this time, since probably every calculation will be different, that’s why it is a preliminary “no” that only with lots of luck could turn into a “yes” - that you should not count with at all.

OK, I closed this poll early, it seems like beta was winning anyway. BUT, things have changed, the actual car was made on a mod body that seems to no longer exist in Steam workshop. Hence, I have to change my mind about what car to make for this, and doing the change to beta will stress me out a bit less about that I guess. Maybe the car can be replicated anyway since there are some new bodies in the Beta that might work as a replacement, and if it can’t, I’ll come up with something else. See you in the future!
