Got a bit faster on my best try. I used my ps3 controller, and only the factory settings and factory abs & tc. No stability, 30L fuel. May make the vid (no commentary).
I don’t like how the clips from the last track turned out, so I don’t think I’ll make those vids.
I set rear camber higher than front (but not to max) too, the front really didn’t seem to like me holding out getting on the brakes until the last second and then trying to remedy the understeer with throttle feathering
@Der_Bayer daaaaaamn I thought I had things figured out but clearly you have some skill here that I lack!
I went back to default except the camber and had a couple more goes. I’m having some serious trouble trying to figure out the line of Bocht 9 and 10, plus the entry to some of these are really finnicky.
I humbly ask of you, how do you do it with the controller??? My own theory is that I have actual hooves for feet and therefore have the worst pedal control ever. For reference, here’s a lap with the mouse.
Because even a stage 3 Exige has sweet fuck all torque, it’s pretty easy to keep the car under control even getting a bit too hard on the throttle (no traction control). As you can see a 1:54 is possible but definitely much harder to achieve, and it would be nearly impossible for me to get into 1:53, even with ABS!
edit: just watched the videos side by side. Braking going into Tarzan is a complete dog’s breakfast. Gerlach and Hugenholtz are reasonable, and I actually make up time because I shift faster than the computer I found staying in 4th made for better speed through that Rob Slatemaker bit but the Sheivlak has me mostly flummoxed. As expected however it’s corners 9 and 10 that are by far the worst on pedals. I don’t know the line, don’t know the corner speed, don’t know where the apex is because all I can see is this giant swathe of ashphalt. Help?
I’ll try to make a video of a 1:54.high in the evening. I didn’t expect to be competitive here as I don’t really like the track. My braking control is pretty bad, so I guess it’s all about choosing a quick line.
My main problem is that while I’m aware of racing line, apex and when to gas out of a corner, I’m clearly not actually talented as I don’t know what the best way to brake into it is. ABS takes my mind off having to modulate the brake while downshifting (for some strange reason it used to be that if you don’t heel toe the sudden surge through the gearbox would drag your car off line… does this still happen or am I just a shit driver who can’t drive in a straight line? Or maybe it was just a quirk of the physics model of the Exige in particular.)
I had a thought about trying to pick better lines and managed to knock off a grand 0.1s off my time but I’d definitely love to see Der Bayer’s lines. And yes, the line suggested by the game on most tracks is garbage and doesn’t actually adjust to each car. After you get a feel for where the approximate points are it’s up to you and you’re better off turning the stupid thing off.
Oh cock. I’m stuck in the mid 2:01’s at the moment and I have no idea how to make up the time. I know where I’m messing up, but it’s so tricky to nail those corners…
As promised the 1:54.high. A bit more is still possible if you look at the sector times and me screwing up some brake points, especially at the chicane.
