Hello everyone, this is my third challenge created after ATUC & HYF. This time, there’ll only be 1 car to review. What does this mean?
Simply put, there will be 1 car that the entire automation community would work on.
The way it will work:
I post the car →
One person will comment and state that they will then work on the provided car
Then after that person is done with whatever, they will post the car for the next person to download and work on, repeat from step 2 until step 4.
If the last person believes that what they have is the best that it could ever be, then they must state that it is the last edit to be done, of which I would then review it.
How it would go:
- 1st person works on it, then posts it when he/she is done with it
- 2nd person works on it, then posts it when he/she is done with it
- 3rd person works on it, then posts it when he/she is done with it
- 4th person works on it, then posts it when he/she is done with it
- 5th person works on it, then posts it when he/she is done with it | He/she is done with it and says it is the final edit made
This would go as long as many people that there to edit it
There will be two polls as to what the car should even be [type of car + car year]
Also, there will be another challenge being ran at the same time but as a shitpost aka A3CT, which will help some gifted individuals to let out all their shitposting energy, as for this one, the goal is to make the best car through the community.
I WILL FIRST POST THE CAR, THEN 1 WILL WORK ON IT THEN, THEN IT GOES 1 BY 1
Hopefully this will lead to renewed interest in HYF so that it doesn’t remain a one-off. Besides, if A3C ends up being a success, it deserves to continue for at least one more round after the first one.
A good premise, however the potential delays with this having essentially however many participants as “hosts” with the most up to date car file in their possession could be ridiculous. There needs to be some kind of rule where one person cannot have the car for more than x amount of days. A week seems sensible but it depends how fast you want the challenge to go, not everyone can play every day and some only on weekends, hence a week would be good.
I really do not want more stalled out challenges that last for literal months at a time.
Another point to make is, what if somebody quite skilled picks up the car at first? It leaves the other less experienced members of the community at potentially a loss on what to do. Should there be some kind of inverse “ranking” to see who participates where? an easy one would be based on some kind of forum like ratio, or perhaps hours played. The higher you place the further down the list you are, so newer/less experienced players get a chance to do something.
In theory, a great challenge if it all goes smooth, these are the only downsides I can see currently.
I think you could alternatively limit how much a person is allowed to do/change, or just divide the making of the car into smaller separate tasks. Not sure exactly how to go about this to keep it flexible, but there must be a way, right?
Another problem I can see appearing is that someone who wants to work on a car may not be able to participate due to online availability / tight schedules (others editing the car before they have the ability to)… And I think the idea of a person stating the car is finished is not a good one, perhaps there could be a rule of if nobody takes the car for a time period, it ends, or something like that
idk I’ll most definitely not participate so do with this what you will
In regards to the first suggestion, it seems to reasonable to have a limit as to how long someone can “hold” a car in works, and I’ll put in a week’s notice for it. - Added suggestion.
For the second one in regards to who goes first, I may have to confer more about how it shall be done, for I have 3 options:
Make a Google form to state who wants to do the challenge and then make it in order of my best abilities.
Blacklist certain people until later as the challenge progresses.
Depends on which way you want the competition to go.
1 week is OK if you want people to try to improve the whole car, however there’s a chance that you won’t see the end product for months
The other option, as hjuugoo mentioned, is maybe limit the changes to one part/category/section/tab of the car. If you go with this approach, then the time limit could be a couple if days & turnaround between people is faster. Also this way, it doesn’t matter if you get a great designer, as they have less ‘impact’ on the whole car.
As for how to manage, I think Google sheet & @tag the next person when you’re finished your changes.
Looks like I forgot to turn the stove off, but now that I am able to type, I will say these things:
1.Order Based On Skill?
It seems that there have been questions of who or what should be done so that if someone that may not be as talented as the person before them, that it would be that I would try to use @Riley suggestion based on the amount of hours that people play, on this google form that I will be provided here:
2.What Do We Do?
In regards to what people would be doing, I would want it to be more Laissez Faire of which the individuals will decide on their behalf of what they think best needs to be done, this is to avoid skill-blocking of which assigning a part to an individual would probably make them care about their own job as opposed the synergy that I would like to see, ie: chocolate mousse and spaghetti are great on their own but don’t work when they are mixed together. So essentially, people will have the whole of the car that they would work on, though by their discretion, they get to choose what they would want to do.
3.Length?
How long should each person be able to “hold” the car? Using some level professionalism here, I would like to provide each person 1 week to be able to do as they best can.
4.What Are We Graded On?
There is no real “grade” to be found here, just a fun activity to be done here. If anything, the car would be graded in regards to how “well” of a car, of which I will post the output and people would be free to discuss about how they felt about the cars.
5.When will the ruleset be given?
Either by today or tomorrow, of which I will make some basic rules for the possible car that we might build.
Since it’s an ongoing challenge, and cars will most likely not be reset with updates, I suggest start now. If there are changes to calculations, that’s the next player’s job to fix.
