Each round everyone makes an automation replica of a specific IRL car.
The main purpose of this challenge is (1) to have fun with automation
(2) to give you an opportunity to advance your design skills,
because I believe that the best way to learn designing automation cars is via replicating what
actual proffesional designers did before.
Making a replica doesn't mean that the design process is much less interesting or creative though.
As you find yourself trying to make the exact shapes and proportions of the IRL model, you will
have to show your prowess in using the tools which automation (and Steam Workshop mods) gives you.
For the design, use the following automation body:
Simple 1100 1962 Hatchback
(60s_EU_S1100_FLH_1_4T_PD)

This isn’t like RDC where the task is to create an alternate timeline version of a real-life car, but rather a challenge in which entrants have to create the most faithful replica of a given IRL car, as specified by the host.
Replicating stuff is indeed a great way to learn new techniques. I’ve been wanting to do something similar on my own just to practice some things.
I may give this a shot if I have time. I already see some things that will be very tricky. Automation could definitely use some more fixtures, even just a bunch of basic ones in a variety of shapes.
I hope we get some entries to this. I will make an attempt if I can find time. I put most of my effort into the Jet Age contest, and maybe others did the same? Might be worth extending the deadline to get a few entries. I’d hate to see this go by without participation.
Will the interior be judged, too (i.e
will it be included in the voting photos)? I’m debating how much time I want to spend on it compared to the exterior.
Edit: It might be good to see example photos in the photoscenes so we know generally what angles our entries will be viewed from.
Thought I would share some resources for anyone having trouble with all the different versions of the Simca. The post-facelift car looks very similar, with the main difference being the taillights, but there are other changes as well. I found some brochures which show cars as they were for that year (minus regional changes like light colors).
I was going to suggest using https://classiccarcatalogue.com/ as a fantastic reference, but it just went down due to being sued for copyright. Honestly a huge loss.
