The thing is that - at those high speeds - air resistance is so high that you actually need a heavier car to have enough grip to fight against the air. If you don’t have enough downforce/tire load, tires will not be able to transmit enough force.

I feel kinda bad for stealing the 600km/h crown when you were so close to it, but here is my 603.343km/h (374.9mph) car. it has plenty more in it, but it is limited by the gearbox (which, oddly, isnt affected by the tyre size)

R change of body gave me more engine bay space to work with and a lower cD. Result: theoretical top speed of 424mph (but exactly the same real top speed as before because of the gearbox)
Tomorrow I will try to make a higher revving engine for this car to get the extra top speed

The open beta updates helps a lot
Yeah, just because of the extremely low CD-values you get when you don’t cool your engine. And because of the air intakes for turbo engines not counting towards engine size (which will hopefully be fixed in the next update).
Is there a difference between open beta and what everyone else is running?

Despite the smaller engine, I was still able to hit 424.3mph, or 682.845km/h in my very imaginatively named car:
I get a crash whenever i set the gearbox to have a higher top speed than ~375mph. Here’s the workaround i used:
- Put a lower revving engine in the car
- Adjust the low revving engine to the position on the gearbox slider that you would like the high revving engine to use
- insert the high revving engine
You have to do this for every gearbox change, and you also have to save the car with the lower revving engine otherwise you wont be able to load it again
I had another stab at this using a different route for the engine which gave less bore/stroke to play with, but higher power overall. I managed to break the 700km/h barrier with 700.7km/h or 435.4mph.
The hardest part of this is to get all the power I need at a high enough RPM, since i’m hitting the limit of the gearbox with my more powerful engines
Well, this isn’t the fastest car here, but it’s probably the fastest compact. It seems to be the fastest car with less than 2000HP, and it’s certainly my fastest car, lol. Guess I’ll need to get a chassis with a bigger engine compartment next time.
Not that I care or try to ruin others fun. But I don’t understand the point of creating a car which engine would blow up before it could reach top speed… Guys, try to create fastest cars which actually could cool itself. It’s a bit more hard and if you also require some reasonable weight you would really need to fine tune many things.
Not all cars are made for the same purpose. The engine of a top tier drag racer isn’t intended to last longer than a couple pulls down the line, these cars would be equivalent to that. Personally though, I find building high output relatively reliable engines to be easier to build than these… I can’t seem to get more than 2000 HP out of any engine that will fit in one of the current car chassis, so personally I’m not very competitive here, though I wish I could figure it out.
Thats very good for what I assume is a first attempt, especially with that body and with a 4WD car (which reduces engine bay space). I don’t know if the engine would still fit, but try changing to the body that looks like the honda CRX-SiR because that has the lowest drag in this version. Changing to RWD should help you with the engine space, but you will need to add quite a bit of weight and rear tyre size to get enough grip
My game keeps crashing when I try to max my gearbox top speed out, anyone else run into this problem?
Yes, I also ran into this problem when making my cars, but I have found a solution. Its not a great solution but it lets you see the top speed of your car because the gearbox crash occurs when you try and adjust the top speed above a certain number (~375mph i believe).
- design your ridiculously powerful engine
- make a copy of the engine as a different revision, but reduce its RPM limit by a long way (I would suggest halving the RPM limit for easy calculations)
- put the reduced RPM engine in the car and adjust its gearbox so that it will have the correct top speed when the RPM limiter is removed
(ie, If you want a car with a 400mph theoretical top speed and your neutered engine has a halved RPM limit, change the gearbox so that the car has a 200mph top speed) - insert the proper engine. The gearbox lines may go off the screen, but that is OK
- Test the car.
- if you want to make any changes to the gearbox, swap back to the lower RPM engine
- When you are done with the car, swap to the lower RPM engine before you save, otherwise the game will crash when it loads the car again

Thanks, I couldn’t seem to get it to work but I like playing around with N/A engines more anyway, I’ll just keep trying to beat that score.

were you making any adjustments to the gearbox after you put the higher RPM engine in the car? you have to do every single gearbox adjustment to the car when it has the low RPM engine in it, then swap back to the high RPM engine just to hit the test button
