Battalion Tuning Team (Refurbishment situation, part 2)

I really like the Shrike series. Beautiful design, especially the front end. It reminds me of the Chevy Camaro a bit. The engines are really expensive though. I’m pretty sure you can get that kind of power for less money with some turbo.

I get the feeling that the engine being NA is essential. It also makes the car a lot more driveable, at those output levels.

That said, it’s possible to get 1000hp turbo engines in cars with 50 drivability, but it’s very, very difficult.

Yeah, true, until we get modern turbochargers such as twin scroll and variable geometry turbos. And yes, could be Battalion’s choice to go for mostly NA engines.

I managed 46,4 driveability with my most recent RWD muscle car. I simply don’t go overboard with the max boost pressure and try to reach max boost pressure at around 3000RPM. It works pretty well, should even work well at high output levels.

Kampf: Ermm… I’ll get my fellow co-worker to reply on th-

Raquel: That’s exactly why I’m against letting the Shrike have a turbocharger to begin with. Not only the drivability goes southwards, the turbo lag would be detrimental
to those unfamiliar with the characteristics of a turbocharged engine. The power spike when the turbo kicks in, and for a rear wheel drive car having that much
power output, it’s just calling for trouble; and we’re talking about dishing out a huge power boost on the top revs, not those low-end or mid-range rev boost. We already have much trouble
getting the Shrike Rage to its final product, strapping on a turbo on the Rage would probably result in death. Little shit Kampf is still trying to get used to my high powered
Panzer Evo prototype, and that’s a 4WD.

Kampf: Hey now, you don’t have to get into depth about my shenanigans-

Raquel: Not when that certain someone FLIPPED the freak of the prototype on the DYNO. I don’t even- How did you even flip a car upside down while on a dyno!?
You went full retard, Kampf. Never go full retard.

Kampf: Sighs Nevertheless, we’ll see if one of the Shrikes is eligible to have a turbo installed, though we would stay away from the V-engines on that.

Loving the in character reply!

And I’m not saying it’s a bad engine, just saying that it’s quite a bit expensive. And 98RON fuel is not that common in all countries. Working with the current turbochargers is doable but far from perfect. Midgård Cars is getting fairly acceptable results with turbocharging. Not too much turbo lag and the power spike isn’t that violent in our engines.

Still, keep up the good work, your designs are beautiful.

Kampf: I see where you’re getting at. Indeed, it is also our oversight that we used Octane 98 for the Rage, considering that it’s readily available here in Singapore.
As for the turbocharging, I am still grasping the concept of having that balance where the turbo kicks in without having that much of a lag. The company is
still reliant on Raquel, who is extremely familiar with turbochargers, though her obsession with her Audi Quattro S1 is a bit…yeah…

Nevertheless, the Shrike line hasn’t concluded yet, we might have a look see at what the Rage can do with a 95 Octane at the very least. I’ll have to find Rikako first
on that. The 12th incident sort of…snapped that Japanese girl, and insist she deal with the fine tuning…

Rikako: I heard that!

Erika: Will you two girls give Kampf a break?

Kampf: Ah, and thank you about the design part. A lot of what-ifs come into play for that. I wouldn’t want to make it look like a Camaro, or a Mustang clone by accident.

Not-in-character…

Yeah, thanks for the opinions that you guys have. Maybe I need to start playing around with turbos to see what it can do for now.

It Takes a Group of people Braver then I to watch their friend Flip a car, crack their shoulder, then fix the car by giving it a bigger engine.

Awesome Car though! I Bet You’ll Sell Enough cars to afford a replacement for the Opel .

Kampf: Thanks man, we have been working on the repairs of her Opel Manta B, and realised that…
it even broke the driveshaft from that force. Ah well, at this rate, we might as well give it our own
“Battalion” tune-up. The engine’s fine, but is only pushing out 210hp based on Lean’s own tuning.
We got Rikako, the carburetor talent, to work on it to output at least 300hp.

And as it turns out…

Two more versions of the Shrike are on the way. One caters for the niche community, while another
as a race car.

*During our… chaos with the Shrike Rage, Bristol had been working on another car before he had to help out on the Rage due to complications.
However, due to the accident he has gone through, his work on it was never completed. That was when he gave that task to Kampf, to finish up
the loose ends. Fortunately, the designs were already done, and the engine was already built, just ready to be installed onto the chassis. Compared
to the Shrike D-Spec, it was tamed in nature, like a diligent worker, with an air of elegance.

This is the Folgore GT*

Beneath the sleek hood lies Bristol’s own creation; a 5500cc Flatplane DOHC V8 called the “Monsone”, developing a strongheaded 588hp, enough to propel
the GT to a top speed of 343kmh, and a 0-100kmh time of 4.2 seconds. Interior and infotainment were done to emphasize the sensation of driving; lightweight
bucket seats and matte black fibreglass dashboard, and a brushed aluminum console fitted with every driving aids, all under your command. Premium infotainment
comes as standard, ranging from the state of the art GPS system that rivals the Mercedes S-Class, soothing audio system from Bose, and Bluetooth, and NFC
connectivity.

The Folgore GT retails at a modest $57’500, so don’t miss it!

Meanwhile…

Raquel: KAMPF!!! THE HELL ARE YOU HIDING!?

Kampf: Shit, Rikako, quick, hide in here!

Rikako: Oh damn, oh hot damn! I knew making that engine was bad news all right!

Kampf: Don’t worry, there’s nothing she can do as well. It’s already been slated for release anytime soon too.

Rikako: Why the heck did I even accept the job just so we could make that 1000hp engine for the Shrike!?
God damn it Kampf!

Kampf:…

Rikako: What? Got another great plan again; make another turbo V8 for another car?

Kampf:…

Rikako: Oy! Why are you all silen-

Raquel: What?

Lean and Kampf: …

Story: What happens when you forgo a project regarding turbochargers without Raquel’s discretion, let alone do one with an engine that outputs over 1000hp.
Also, God damn it Kampf!

We (as in the guys at Gryphon Gear) ought to invite Raquel to test drive our former models, maybe they might be more her speed huehuehue

EDIT: though all our in house cars are v8s (I’ll be using v10s and v12s when they come out). We have no qualms about turbo everything…

Kampf: Ahh… I’d be more than happy to let her have a go at test driving your cars, if only she was interested to begin with.
Her obsession with turbocharged inline engines, and her extreme reluctance to have turbochargers on anything V8 and higher…
Raquel can get pretty intimidating. And her driving style with her Audi Quattro S1 could be said as very aggressive. The last time
she had a spin on an Audi, it was another tuner who too, has a Quattro S1, and wanted Raquel to push it to the limits. The link
below… shows just how far she will take it, even if by means of almost crashing it. When I mean almost, it’s the kind where your
heart would pause for a second or two.

youtu.be/45RvlN3fmI0?t=10s

Kampf: But in any case, it’s work as per normal with the absence of Lean and Bristol for the time bei-

Rikako: Come on Raquel, calm down, we can talk it out on this.

Raquel: Oh? What makes you think you can make it out unpunished? Developing that twin-turbo V8,
and a high powered one at that.

Rikako: Wait-wait!

Kampf: Oooooookay, nothing to see here.

After seeing that, perhaps it is for the better that Raquel isn’t so interested in turbo V8s… not sure she’d be able to handle all that >1hp:kg action going on… :smiling_imp:

(No seriously, Crash has crashed enough of our cars. Crash counters by saying that it’s not like Strop didn’t barrel-roll in that rally they did…)

As you were, then!

Crazy Or not, You Have to Respect Raquel’s Ability to Max these car’s capabilities. Plus, that barrel roll was pretty Awesome.

Raquel: All right you people! Ladies and gentlemen! As we all know, the Panzer Evo I has ceased production for well over 6 months, in
preparation for the successor. Granted, it has been long since overdue, but fret no longer!

Welcome, the Panzer Evolution II

Raquel: Built as a step up from the first evolution, the 2nd generation features 2 versions of the Kurashiki Tech engines, one built for the
Grand Sport model, another for the Rally Sport. As both models only differ engine wise, let’s get on with the details.

The Grand Sport features a redesigned first generation Kurashiki Tech engine, built to withstand higher boost pressure. This 1998cc DOHC Inline-4,
Turbocharged engine develops an ample 400hp, able to hit 100kmh from naught in 3.9 seconds, and a top speed just shy of 300kmh, at 295kmh. Fitted
with a manual six-speed gearbox matched with a short gearstick, and a beefy clutch that can take any abuse you can throw at it, it’s ready for rallying
action from the get go.

Interior is designed to be rugged in the first place, faux thick leather body hugging seats, military-grade console components sponsored by Panasonic with
their Toughbook fame, and a waterproof sound system meant for marine boats. This is carried over to our second model, the much higher end Rally Sport.

The Rally Sport, built as a throwback to the aggressive days of Group B, features the all-new 2300cc DOHC Inline-4 Turbocharged engine namely called the
Kurashiki Tech II, pushing out 650hp. That meant a 0-100kmh time of 3.8 seconds, and a top speed of 335kmh. No flappy pedal shenanigans here, just the
good old 6-speed manual with a short gearstick, and similar interior and infotainment as the Grand Sport.

But of course, that is not all. Should you need a close ratio gearbox for your rallying needs, be it amateur, or professional, the newer Kurashiki engines have
been designed with adapters to accept gearboxes from the Lancer Evo 7 to 10, last 3 generation Impreza WRX, and the Celica GT-Four ST205. Not only that,
we too provide our own take of close gear ratios gearboxes should you want a spanking new one instead. All you have to do is drop by, and our fellow work
colleagues will assist you and recommend the best overall gearbox setup for your rallying needs, based on surface types.

The Grand Sport will retail at $38’000, while the Rally Sport will fetch you at $56’000

Raquel: Also, I have been receiving requests on what I actually do before I joined Battalion, and before joining Audi as a test driver. I used to be an amateur
rally driver. Though, driving a Group B Audi Quattro for a sponsored team in an amateur event isn’t what one would label as “Amateur”. I have my fair share
of accidents, I have my fair share of close calls too. But, I am not the only amateur rally car driver here. Though I progressed to be a test driver for Audi years
later, it pales in comparison to Lean Beirer, who does amateur rallying for fun, and for longer than me. Though, she has quit. Erika too, is one of them. Just for fun,
and still active in it. One would easily know who are driving in such amateur events. Lean is known to drive several 70s and 80s rear wheel drive rally cars, while Erika
falls under the Lancer Evo, and Impreza WRX. Me, however, dealt with the Audi Quattro S1, and the RS200. The link below shows some of our close call
moments. Though, some cars like the Mini and the BMW were not us at all…

youtu.be/huaZrQs9PBo?t=2m14s

Now, if you could excuse me, I got a turbocharged Shrike to tame.

Raquel: Oh you naughty monster, maybe your leash needs to be tightened further.

rally car with turbo spool around 5K rpm will be very hard to drive

Which makes the drivability of 44 pleasantly surprising. That said, the boost does come on relatively gradually, so there is a surge of power, yes, but not an instant slam as the gates open wide all of a sudden. It’s like the harder you push it, the harder it’ll go!

It has finally come, ladies and gentlemen. Ever since the release of the Shrike Rage, there were rumours of a turbocharged twin, that shares the same
ferocity, and breaking the 1000hp barrier. With the help of our insane ex-rally driver turned test driver; Raquel, not only she has tamed it, it too exudes
the same aura as the Rage. Diabolical, lunatic, yet loyal, and obedient. Like an obsessed partner, this fierce looking demeanor lies a monster craving to
be tamed.

Welcome, to the Shrike, Deranged Edition

Under the hood lies a massive 7600cc DOHC Turbocharged Crossplane V8 called “Code 139”, developing*** 1112hp***.
No, we are not making this up. 1112hp @ 6900rpm, and 1178Nm of torque at 6600rpm. With Octane 95. We are not making this up.
This madness enables this rendition of the Shrike to hit 100kmh from 0 in 4.2 seconds, and a top speed of 405kmh. Like always, the
interior and infotainment are similar throughout all Shrikes.

Price for the Deranged Edition match with the Shrike Rage, at $120’000

Raquel: Okay, no more further versions of Shrikes. There’s too many variants of it.

Kampf: Come on Raquel, one more? The track day car version?

Raquel: Consider that shelved for the time being. If I see another new Shrike out, Imma smack you so hard,
you end up back in 1939 saying hello to a Messerschmitt BF-109.

Lean: Oh, you so kinky, Raquel.

Kampf: Lean, you’re back already? I thought your medical leave only ends in another 6 month’s time? You’re still on
the wheelchair too.

Lean: Hey, it isn’t that bad all right? Despite what you guys kept insisting that I got the brunt of all this from the
Shrike Rage. But in any case, Raquel, I do want to make another version of the Shrike.

Raquel: Come on, enough is enough already. There’s one too many for it.

Lean: What if I tell you I’m planning to take it to Pikes Peak?

Raquel: Oh hell did I hear that wrong. Say that again.

Lean: ~Pikes Peak~~~~

Raquel: Oh that tingles my lower half all right. Count me in. I really want to get back onto the gravel.

Kampf: Raquel is so easy to read… so long rallying is involved.

Except for the fact that the Pikes Peak route hasn’t had any gravel on it since 2012  unless you are writing this retrospectively.

I can’t remember if I said this already, but the top end versions of the Shrike sit right in between the originals and the GG retunes of the Znopresk Zeus, it’s surprising. And a car with this kind of power curve that generates over 1000hp also tickles me in the right spots… I’d love to see a head to head.

Wow, these are some really impressive looking cars! I love the mix between sensible and crazy with the designs, as well as the in-character style of presentation.

Erika: For the past two weeks, we’ve been extremely occupied with…what you would call a set back.
Lean and Ukyo has been in and out of hospital doing therapy, with Lean still on the wheelchair. Rikako is on
annual leave to visit her family in Japan, so is Bristol taking a trip back to England. Fiolina is still in the
mental institute, though her condition seemed to have improved. That leaves myself, Kampf, and Raquel
running the place.

Raquel: Indeed. Even though we’ve put up advertisements on the newspapers in search for another test driver,
and another core member to induce more inspiration for Battalion, we’re out of luck. We’re still waiting. But
nevertheless, that’s the least of our problems. Kampf, lately, has been going through some of the scrapyards,
and was aware that there were a number of cars of our make lying around, mainly the Emden Police Cruisers,
various versions of Black Princes, the lackluster Zerstorer, and the 1st generation Tatsuta.

Kampf: And they were still in good condition, and the thing that was similar to all of them were one key feature
missing. All of them had no engine. It appears that these cars held engines worthy to be taken out from their
original shells, even though a handful were spanking brand new. As such, we took haste in saving as much of the
engine-less cars, in hopes of refurbishing, or rebuild them. The Police Cruisers, though, has their All wheel drive
system taken out as well.

Erika: Indeed, and it is definitely sad to see these cars, being left to rot, despite their shells being in great shape.

Raquel: Very infuriating, really. Sure, we encourage car modification on our models, but to abandon them altogether
is just absurd. We checked for any physical damage, and only the Police Cruisers have significant amount, most
probably from chases. The Zerstorer, Tatsuta, and Black Prince? Immaculate condition. Ridiculous!

Kampf: Nevertheless, we did what we can to save most of these shells and chassis and bring them back to life. Here’s a
preview of one of the Emden Police Cruisers we have rescued, and rebuilt them, as a Decommissioned model.

Erika: And because of that, all production and development of upcoming cars are halted to save, and rebuild these shells
and chassis. The list below shows the amount of future cars being held back.
