Horsepower doesn’t exist, its a made up number. Its actually a equation based off of rpm/torque over time. (RPM*T)/5252 = HP - In other words lets say you have a wall of concrete and a unbreakable truck. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall, torque is how far you can drag it after you hit it. At least thats the way John Hennessey once explained it to his class. More or less paraphrasing but close enough. A big 1+ ton truck needs the torque for moving power, the heavier it is, the more load it needs to carry, the more torque is required to get it moving in a timely manner. You could have a $250,000 F1 engine thats tiny, 3.0 liter making 1200hp@14500rpm in it and it would move the truck, but not very quickly(quick and fast are 2 different things) and not very effeciently(tons of fuel usage). It would also break often from the excessive heat and rpm(f1 teams go through 2 engines for qualifying and 1 for main race) @ 250k per engine where a 8-12 liter 4 or 6 cyl 2k diesel engine could do it without effort at 3000rpm.
