BRC 1955 - The Golden Age [Qualifying R5]

…huh, 38 competitors. That means no drops in qualifying - the full field competing in every race.

Also, if I’m interpreting the graphs right, mattmr2 is clearly winning the revs competition by a country mile - is he revving all the way to ten grand? :open_mouth:

What does difficulty mean?

I assume it’s the factor used to calculate probability and magnitude of driving errors.

3 inline 6, 4 inline 4, and the rest are V8s of some sort.

TrackSportiness divided by TrackDrivability (TrackTameness). Only relevant contributions to Sportiness and Drivability are counted for those stats. With higher difficulty, the driver will make more errors and driver slower in difficult corners.

So I have a car that is average in terms of how easy it is to drive. I guess that’s a good thing.

My car has possibly the 3rd lowest reving engine in the race as well, that’s kinda funny. I think CobaltGirls car is the lowest reving engine in the race.

Ashley Black might spend a lot of time broken down with a 0 reliability. Also look at the end of the power graph, it sails into the sky.

Would you believe I completely forgot about that test? Clearly being on holiday does things to one’s memory!

Some of these torque curves are amazing with how much mid-range they get. Somehow I’m not quite convinced that more mid-range torque is always better, though… I guess that’s something we’ll find out in the coming season!

And more! It does mean that if anyone’s car starts throwing pistons it’ll probably be mine though.

…I actually came up with 10700 RPM when I was trying to estimate how high it revved, but I honestly assumed that was impossible.

I, uh, hope you’re bringing spare engines with you in this race series. You might need them.

Packbat, what in the world is going on with your 0-100 km/h time and top speed??? I like that economy though
Also, Colboltgirl… I see your HP and I’m like… very nice. Then I see your weight and I cry.

@TheBobWiley: Such is the penalty for my body choice - I got a nice short wheelbase, but I paid a terrible, terrible price for it. :stuck_out_tongue:

Going through the listed stats:

07CobaltGirl’s [4349 cc (i.e. 265 c.i.)] engine is the largest by a very wide margin - excluding 23dutch45man (3885 cc but disqualified), second place is RobtheFiend at 3203 cc and third place is Killrob at 2518 cc. Below 1000 cc are mattmr2 at 873 cc, NormanVauxhall at 933 cc, and RubenSL at 951 cc.

Most popular tyres are 175/85 Semi-Slick all around, but there is a fair amount of variation. 8bs and Richard117 are the only designers willing to go down to 145/90s in the front, and even they have at least 155s in the rear.

Unsurprisingly, the most powerful engine is the biggest - 07CobaltGirl gets 215 hp and a staggering 406 N-m of torque to move her 1083 kg auto. Down at the smallest end, both mattmr2 and NormanVauxhall have but 105 hp, but mattmr2 has the least torque at 93 N-m while NormanVauxhall the lightest car at 527 kg.

Remarkably, the four different cars posting 8.7 seconds from 0-100 aren’t the slowest drag racers in the game - rj563, with a 1946-esque power-to-weight ratio of 0.155, manages a 9.8 s time. The undisputed fastest is Razyx, at 6.8 s.

For top speed, Der Bayer takes the honors with 245 kph, and rj563 comes in slowest with a respectable-for-the-coupe 185 kph. (pHanta, with an extra 26 hp, only reached 194 kph; poor body aero takes a big toll.)

The cornering tests have a remarkable diversity of aces and jokers: at low speeds, mattmr2 posts an astonishing 1.29 g while RobtheFiend lumbers around at 0.99 g, while at high speeds there are two ties - Dobble and Trackpaduser both pull 1.16 g, and Pleb and rj563 both struggle at 0.98 g.

AshleyBlack has a listed reliability of 0. Further, in what is perhaps the most appropriate case of excellence in the whole field, AshleyBlack roadster is also the fastest-stopping car, at 38 m. (Second-shortest is mattmr2 at 39 m; longest is 07CobaltGirl at 51 m.) Excluding vmo (15.9 but disqualified), the second worst reliability is Absurdist at 17.9, third is mattmr2 at 18.3, and no-one else is below 20. The most reliable car is mer_at’s, with 42.8.

With the caveat that fuel economy numbers are not measured under race conditions, the nominal figures range from Lothoren’s 4.3 l/100 km to RobtheFiend’s 11.2 l/100 km. (Note that in the final pre-test Lothoren’s entry used 6.32 kg of fuel and RobtheFiend’s 14.16 kg; BlastersPewPew’s entry drank just 6.01 kg with a nominal economy of 5.6 l/100 km and 07CobaltGirl’s entry 15.77 kg with a nominal economy of 9.6 l/100 km.)

Highest drivability goes to Darkjedi at 42.6, lowest to Der Bayer at 22.9; highest sportiness belongs to strop at 34.7, lowest to 07CobaltGirl at 17.6. Overall easiest to drive is Pleb’s car, with a ratio of 0.55; overall hardest is a tie between Der Bayer and Locust, 1.05 each.

These races are gonna be really interesting. Damn, I thought i atleast had the heaviest car, with the most power. (grumbles @ 07CobaltGirl)

Nice card breakdown Packbat. In B4 Absurdist has no failures at ~17 reliability and I do at ~29 :stuck_out_tongue:

Looking over the cards i noticed, both DQ entries has nearly the same power/weight ratio, have they miscalculated? Hp - kW, Kg - Lbs?

Bonus card trivia: the smallest individual cylinders are in mattmr2’s flatplane V8 at 109.1 cc; the largest are in Lordred’s inline-four at 617.8 cc.

Preview-Edit: .267 hp/kg is, in fact, 0.199 kW/kg. That seems like a plausible mistake.

HAHA

Did you happen to notice I have the LARGEST engine in the field at 4349cc? It’s a Chevy Smallblock 265 ci from 1955. It was actually built at 275-ish hp but got cut tremendously to 215-ish due to weight shedding. I started out at just shy of 1200kg using this engine. I think the next largest engine was in the 3.8L range, but was DQ’d due to costs! Next largest is RobTheFiend using a 3.2L. Considering it is at least 100kg heavier than anything else (other than RobTheFiend), it’s actually not that slow. It definitely cannot keep up with the 600kg sprites, however. Oh, and as with all of my cars, it’s a cast iron OHV V8 and it sucks.

EDIT: Annnnd, I see Packbat already critiqued my car (and the entire field).

4th Largest with 2471cc!

@Lordred: Sixth-largest - Pyrlix had 2500 cc and mer_at had 2474 cc.

Don’t worry about it - I half-expected as I was going through compiling that someone else was already doing it, and would beat me to it.

(…I’m going to go calculate hp/cc - brb.)

Calculate my car to be faster while you’re at it.

Also, calculate hp/cyl at the same time, please?
