BRC 1976 - Under Pressure [E8-Q]

Ooh, very nice @rcracer11m.

I don’t think the Godiva has a lot more speed in reserve, but obviously I’ll have to find some.

I think part of its speed may be its wonderful weight distribution at 25F and 75R

While everyone is shooting for 2.14s or lower, here I am finally getting to my BRC76 build and finding 2.19s the best I can muster even with a whole new direction (that being turbos).

Edit: mind you that’s on sport tires, semi-slicks get me a second faster.

It looks like sport tires will be a way to go. I wonder how much chamber can you get with sport tire to actually wear as much as slick and how does is affect speed. Because if I put sports on at this setup, I loose more than a second. If someone has already done comparison I’ll be grateful for info…if this is racing secret I respect that and will probably try it out next test  back to tuning

In the previous test I’m 90% sure I was running at -2.2 camber (between -2.0 and -2.4 at least) on the sports tires. Btw, what is correct use of tyre and tire? I keep mixing them up :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks, I’ll check that.

I believe one is British and other 'murican. So your choice

I have a somewhat worthy entry. Now to look at other posts so I can submit an entry.

Good news: I’m ahead of the 110% rule!
Bad news: My car still needs a LOT of tuning. Barely average tire wear (and on sports, no less), and fairly high fuel consumption for below average times. Not horrible for a 4.9L V8, but…still sucks. Yep, my car sucks, once again! Maybe I can find time to work on it this weekend. When is the next practice?

Next practice will be on Tuesday.

That will give me enough time to make a totally new car, having run the same (crappy) one all 3 tests so far.:sob:

Has anyone tried to work out the benefits of using Sports tires over Semi-Slicks? The problem I found with Sports tires is that although you get greatly reduced wear, the only way to match the lap times achieved on Semi-Slicks is to greatly increase the camber angle, which surely just negates the benefits of reduced wear because it just increases it. I may be completely wrong, and I think the fact I’m racing with a heavy car may be a factor affecting this, but any advice would be appreciated.

Well so far I made an assumption of how durable are sports with @Puffster s help (look post 407) and have figured on my own (in game) that in order to match times with slicks chamber 0, Sports must be at around -2. Which wear less at that numbers I have no idea yet. However sports are a lot cheaper so there is extra money for dem tech sliders ;). If it’s worth it I guess I’ll know in next test or two. Tuesday I’m trying sports. I’ll be couple of tents slower but hopefully with steadier times/less wear.

@AirJordan please stop talking about chamber, it hurts my engineer eyes/ears… it’s camber

hahahahaha never noticed :joy::sweat_smile: fine, camber it is…the more you know…

Another question about that added weight by fuel because it’s confusing me.

The gearing, brake distances and suspension setup are not affected? Because if I add weight to my car in the game (heavier seats) it does change behaviour and I need to fix it.

my driver lost some weight recently. how is that accounted for???

what. i moved up O_o
i didn’t resubmit my car because i wasn’t making progress, but moved from 13th to 11th? who gained some time?

There’s people like me testing for different strategies, which can be slower than a previous test

The only thing scaling slightly is brake distance, the rest is unaffected. Of course that’s not 100% realistic, for example if you have excess braking potential. But it’s the only way to do it when there is no closed loop driver model. And I certainly won’t touch that.

For the players this makes things a bit easier anyway: You don’t have to tune for different weights, just make sure your car is set up properly for the weight displayed in the game. Estimating brake performance at different weights would be more guesswork, and we already have enough with tyre wear, fuel consumption and flying lap performance.

wweeeellllll crap, I have been busy with work and school and completely forgot to check the forums for almost a month and 1976 is finally happening. Now that I’m a nice 2 weeks behind I really need to get caught up on the rules and competition.
