BRC 1976 - Under Pressure [E8-Q]

@Der_Bayer, I am not that mad with what happened, would just like to know what happened with my pits there so I can avoid it in the future races, or if its a bug you can fix it.

I pitted around 30 minutes to change from intermediates to drys and did not take on fuel. I believe this fell inside my “replace regular %” for my upcoming planned stop at 45% race time. Because I did not take fuel I thought I would then stop again in a few laps at the planned 45% for fuel, but I passed it kept racing until about 55% race time (I think) when I finally went in for emergency fuel I assume. I ended up running out of fuel in pit lane just before pulling into my pit area.

Hope we can figure this out, thanks for all your hard work!

Started 10th, 6th after start and up to fight for 2nd with @Trollercoaster when crash happened, extra damage 33sec pitstop and down to 45th. after some solid racing, I finished 5th, 33 sec behind a leader… so if I take in account pit lane loss of time…oh well :pensive: and it was completly overlooked by otherwise awesome comentators
I’m very pleased with my car tho  Fast but easy on tyres and fuel

About not ending laps due to fuel issues… I’m against raising the safety margins. However pushing to pits seems like a cool idea but it must mean a big loss of time. Like standing still for 30 sec and than moving at max 10 km/h.

Damn that was one great race

Exactly what I was thinking, basically moving down pit lane very slowly like its being pushed would give you a decent time penalty for poor planning, but does not knock you out of the race. In my situation I could have fairly easily made up the lost time and places, but o well, will be doing 4 stops from now on I think.

This race was really, really entertaining to watch, a lot of interesting things happened. Including my driver pitting extremely late, puking in his helmet, and finishing 50th. I don’t know what happened to my pit strategy. Still, fantastic race. I hope that Diepholz will be better for team Seishido.

For those who missed the race, here are the final results.

i´m for raising the margin because the cars which have their box further towards the pit exit are disadvanteged a lot. Some cars were really lucky to have their box close to the pit entry or they would have run out too.

My car had more than enough fuel capacity to make that stop, and it just barely made it, so it seems like the safety margin might be just a bit too low, I think the problem for me was possibly the unplanned pit to change tires where I did not take on extra fuel as it did not replace a stop, but would have used fuel sitting in the pit?

I remember talking about your crash early on, but what did we miss exactly? I want to be sure I know what to look for next time. I was also watching the live stream comments so that I could see what others were talking about and didn’t see anything pointing your car out.

I’m sure I speak for all the commentators when I say we’re glad you all enjoyed the broadcast.

@Der_Bayer
We just had an interesting talk on the IRC …

[21:54] < FrankNSTein> I pitted at lap 86 for an additional 3kg of fuel to make it to the finish (which would have been a 1 second pit)
[21:54] < FrankNSTein> at 15% wear … got tires changed and a 19 second pit
[21:55] < FrankNSTein> for 2 laps ^^
[21:58] < Leo6913> that’s a valid concern
[21:58] < Leo6913> FrankNSTein,
[21:58] < Leo6913> you should post it on the forums
[21:58] < Leo6913> if the car is outside the window allowing for unplanned stops, it should just fuel up

So, if a car needs to pit for fuel outside the window specified where unplanned stops should be done, it should just take fuel and not do anything else in the pits. I think that’s a good point.

It could be, or that the fluctuations in your fuel use from the average in practice meant you used more fuel than expected

How about a check box in brctool: Extra saftey margin
Because I don’t want one

Me going from 45 to 5 and having a winning chance if there would be no crash  Please do not take it as much criticism, still huge kudos to the team, it was a pleasure listening.

Just a note to the commentators, you can leave out the numbers when saying my tag, they don’t mean anything it’s just that I joined the forums so long ago that I used my old xbox gamertag.

You guys did a great job though, really made it interesting for my first BRC.

Yea, great job there from the commentators, also interesting to hear some different opinions on my car  I actually only have 5% wheelspin (which isn’t that much) with “this much power on those skinny sports tires”. And 1.17 difficulty is about average for NA cars

I have a suggestion regarding the unplanned stops, on top of some the others suggested.

What about a system that allowed us to tell which emergencies to tackle?

For example, right now, I could just lock the % of race time I want the unplanned stops to happen, however that would mean the car wouldn’t stop in case it got damage. In another scenario, I would quite like to have optimal % to change tyres, but I wouldn’t want to compromise my stint because of them, in that case I would like to disallow the pits due to weather, yet keep good rain/inter thresholds. So, if there was a tick box, in which I could decide whether or not I want to pit due to that issue, we could choose our strategies better, and not have extra pits due to weather or the safety car, yet still be covered if some catastrophic issue happened.

Here are my thoughts on improving the unplanned stops system, nothing too difficult to implement and straightforward for the user.

Have 2 sets of values for everything, the first only occurs if within % of race time, the second is a kind of extreme value where the car will pit outside the % of race time rule (may not necessarily need to be extreme values but could be used to separate things like damage and sc reaction from the race time rule for those that want to use it that way), in the event of early crashes this would be useful.

Another suggestion is as well as a % of race time threshold there could be an option to stop your car from pitting outside of the margin for replacing a pit stop (unless the extreme value as above requires you to pit outside that window).

This would have saved myself and i’m sure a few other people from picking up an extra pit within only a few laps of the pit replacement threshold, and i’m sure it would take a lot of guesswork out of predicting exactly what lap the humidity will drop below the threshold or what to set the threshold to in order to replace tires at the intended pit window.

@Leonardo9613 I think this also covers what you are asking for, having a secondary rain/inter threshold if outside the pit window would allow you to pit in the event of severe weather changes, but if not severe would hold out till the pit window is open and not compromise your stint.

Wow, I was not expecting that result frankly!

I have to say it all came down to pit strategy and more than a little bit of luck that I ended up leading almost a quarter of the race and ending up in P2. Interestingly my first stop, which was unscheduled, was only a lap short of my planned stop, so that worked out well in the end.

Even though I need to take two stops for each race, I have the flexibility to go a fair bit further than the standard window if need be, so that helps too.

Haven’t checked the stream yet, but I’m firing my driver.

My driver may well quit by next race. He did well, but he was screwed by a bad car and bad decisions from the pit crew. At least the team was 37th, which was an improvement of 12 spots from qualifying.

Great first race! Happy to be in the points, despite having lost a pitstops worth of time due to a strategic error.

Very roughly, how often are races likely to be?

Yea, when’s the Diepholz race gonna be?

I’m even more hyped now than before the first race.
