BRC - Out of the Steam - 1945 [Final Race Results]

BRC - Bavarian Racing Challenge - 1945

What once upon a time was the Bavarian Rallye Challenge has now become the Bavarian RACING Challenge. And with “RACING” I mean “RACING”. Direct Competition. Fighting for Position. Epic crashes. Tragic failures. Worn out tyres. Empty fuel tanks. Each race a unique story.

We start off in 1945. Next challenge will be in 1955 and so on.

HOW???

I ported the Automation acceleration, braking and cornering calculations to MATLAB, automated the aquiration of car parameters and reworked the test track calculations. Now the calculations are not static and done before the lap anymore - they are dynamically done on the way around the track. And when the driver reaches the end of the lap, he will do another one! Probably with a different lap time because he makes smaller and bigger errors. And if there’s another car in his vicinity, he will even react to it!

The officials have taken a look at all of the registered cars and decided to disqualify 4 out of the in total 53 cars. You can take a look around the pitlane here:

Something i didn’t understand. What does “race weekend format” mean? Does it mean we send you a car and you test all cars you got, during the week, at the weekend and post the results here and after 29.03 you run the main races?

Just to clarify some things, is there a specific file name system we need to use? You dont have one required (yet) so I thought I would ask.

Sounds fantastic, but why limit the power to weight ratio?

A whole season with 5 race weekends will be simulated. Have you taken a look at the preview videos already? Maybe that will explain how things work better. I’ll make such videos for the challenge after the deadline as soon as I have time.

Yes I forgot that. Added to the list, thanks!

Because we/I want a balanced, close and exciting challenge.

Now since this is a race in 1945 I am going to guess safety wasn’t that big of a deal back then  I still might toss in some safety features though, I would feel bad if my driver was injured in a crash and couldn’t finish. This is going to be gooooooooood.

I’m guessing Driveability will affect how likely drivers are to make mistakes, right? Any suggestions for good compromises between that and Sportiness?

As long as driveability is bigger than sportiness you should not be in big trouble.

Info: The Steam-port of the challenge (using the new 4 lua-file system and additional design choices including diffs, drum brakes etc.) is done already. So keep the entries coming!

In 1945 Znopresk is clearing out all the rubble from their production lines. We have to build up a working prototype in time for the race in order to show that we are still alive and worthy.

I’m just getting the Steam version ready now, so I may be in for a pleasant surprise. But in the old version there was only two 1945 bodies and neither very sporty. Would it be more appropriate starting in 1955 when we have more bodies?
edit: it is just me talking here, others may want to run in 1945. I guess I’ll just wait until you reach 1955

For balancing purposes, I’ll throw something in yeah. Just to mix things up, a word of warning, I’m using a bit of a weight exploit so I wouldn’t be surprised that even among the light entries, there’s a big discrepancy in their weights.

What do you mean with exploit? If there’s a problem with the rules or the game, just just tell me. It’s still early enough to fix things.

weight exploit? pffff

So big it couldn’t fit the screen.

This is the Tishillyman Maharava Tigris from 1945. One of the first Tishillyman ever made.

Well, I like the rules as they are!

At this point we can’t choose the smaller 40’s body, because the chassis is blocked… probably an update will happen before 29th march, right?

It’s an issue with the mid engined version of the small '40 sedan. If you remove the mid engined version, the front engined version will appear.

 Thanks!

I think it’s not great to purposefully make use of an exploit, just as I thought when you took advantage of the many wings exploit.

Technically, it’s a bug of che community pack. The vanilla game have the small 40 body

As far as I know, there are some weight exploits to be used: morphing the car in such a way that it assumes its smalles shape possible, using -15 quality for the chassis and also basic safety with -15 quality sometimes is lighter than no safety. I can only assume strop is using one of these, known, exploits, if he isn’t, I would suggest he should do his beta-tester duties and notify about the bug in the correct places.

Is it possible to play this once the standalone update comes up? or will it only work with the steam version? i’m kind of reluctant to switch to the steam version.
