BRC - Out of the Steam - 1945 [Final Race Results]

lol that made my day =D
I’m in the process of updating to the Steam version as I write. Assuming that it will go alright (I never used Steam before), I will begin to work on my car tonight.
On a side note, I’ve been off the forum for the last couple of weeks and I’m surprised of how quiet things are in the competition sub-forum. I hope that things will go back to full throttle.
I’m guessing the two biggest factors are the new four-LUA save system and the uncertainty of how many people would sign up for the forums.

Entry sent. I wish it was fast enough to be competitive, but at least it’s out there. The Stig will be driving, but he’s only as good as the machine you put him in. He’s been fed and watered every day this week, so I think he’ll be on top of his game. Good luck everyone!

I’ll be right along side you. my entry is using a little 2.2L pushrod 4 pot.

“little” 2.2L?

 I’m running a 1.6L straight-6.

Unexpectedly just found an extra .5 mph for my top speed and a few other small tweaks… there goes another 1 second lap time on all the tracks
Any word on when the next pre-season test will be?

My first design had a 9 liter 500 ftlb pushrod v8. this one’s a lot faster.

Short stroke 1.8L Inline 4 here.

2.8L V8 OHV and running under 1:50 on Airfield. Bigger V8’s are going to slow you down a lot unless you’re a pro-tuner, especially in 1945. There is so very little tech to rely on in the 1940s. Also, you have to keep in mind of the power/weight restriction. I pushed 175hp+ out of my little V8, but couldn’t make my car fat enough to actually use it. In the end, I only have about 130hp for my entry.

I’m hardly a pro-tuner, so there are probably some who are pushing way better responsiveness and hp than I am, and getting way quicker times

oppositelock had a very fast car!

Jesus, what have I done… .1kg changes can make for some large changes in suspension… my car’s power to weight ratio is sitting at 14.9988 and costs $6975.93… I think this is a keeper :sunglasses:
PS. hopefully I have not accidentally utilized any bugs in my design, I know for a fact I have played around with quality settings on every aspect of the car except tires and I have not used the safety bug to lower my cars weight (but I did use it to net .2 reliability)

In attempting to build a car for entry, I noticed two major issues with using the Automation track timing system. These issues are the lack of consideration for engine torque and power/drag ratio. I built a faster car with a much smaller engine pushing the same horsepower as a larger engine, but with 60% the torque of the larger one. The car was two full seconds faster around the Automation track, which should favor cars with monstrous torque to pull them out of the corners (I balasted the weight difference between the two with the safety system “cheat”). The test-track feature is a cute add-on, but is in no way a reasonable consideration for how well-performing a given automotive design should actually be. The devs will need to consult, at the very least, a high-level amateur race team to come up with all of the variables needed to properly design the performance aspect of the game. That being said: I’m out on this one.

My 2.2 only outputs 102hp, but has a healthy 125ish lbft torque, is decently fuel efficient, and can pull over 100mph flatout.

Torque doesn’t make a car faster. When someone says an engine is torquey, it usually means that it has a fairly flat power curve and makes decent power at lower revs, as opposed to a peaky engine, where all the power is in the higher revs.

While it is obviously an issue with bad gearing, if your car is geared properly it makes little difference in racing.

Edit: Also, your torquier car was probably more front heavy due to the larger engine, which not usually a good thing, especially with RWD cars.

The entry i send at first was a 1.4L 6 in line, and my current design use a 1.0 V8, maybe i’m the only crazy enought to make a 999cc V8 engine?

You definitively aren’t.

I am running a 900cc V8, oppositelock is running a 1L V8, and I heard a lot of people say they will do the same.

Well, my best timed car right now uses a 688cc V8 engine… this is weird, still can’t beat the 3 minutos barrier in the automations track tought.

Just a little tip, watch the full lap and watch your speedo, you will find your problem on the back straightaway.
Also, getting ever closer to sub 10 minute mark on Green Hell… but I think I have exploited the power/ratio as far as I can… think its time to send in my car for the next practice session

The next test video will be released early on Monday. Lots of entries are coming in and I want to have eveyone in the video who builds a car during the weekend.

Please note that I won’t check if your car is built according to the rules until the deadline has passed. This is your duty now and I cannot check every single revision I get.

edit: We now have 30 entries. If we get above 40 entries (this is probably happening), the qualifying session for each race weekend will determine which 40 cars are allowed to race. So if you didn’t qualify in one race, you still could in the other races.

Take a look here, it’s… enlightning viewtopic.php?f=13&t=1719
Especially this video here viewtopic.php?f=13&t=1719&start=10#p23592

I think I may have just set myself back fairly drastically. I just noticed there is a “total” cost and “materials” costs… was totally going $7k material cost, but my total cost is 25K… whoops
I feel really dumb right now
