BRC QuER - Hockenheim 1000 km 1976 [FINISHED]

6th for fuel consumption, 10th for tires, 84th on time.

Dropped a fair few places, but fuel consumption and tyre wear is way better. Feeling confident.

I’m surprised, my station wagon that I put in as a novelty is superior in performance to my actual race car attempt… I’m also amazed that my Battle Wagon did not consume the most fuel per lap.

So… only 57(?) managed all 20 laps. Quite the fuel hogs in this competition.
To bad i’m running open beta, and wasn’t able to enter a car.
Hopefully by the time the real '76 is on, the game is in full mode again.

I like that the cars show up when they have incidents, very nice. That should also help catch the commentators eye.

I find it odd how my cars compare, in game, my Green car is faster by several seconds. But here it’s swapped around. It’s odd only because of how large the margin is. It’s quite a few seconds different for each car than I expected and it was out of the box too, so tyre wear and fuel can’t have done that at all. :hushed:

Ugh, I love the MR, but the rear tyre wear is prohibitively painful. So I think that’ll really hurt me. My faster car is very fuel efficient, but I won’t actually be able to make use of it. Definitely this is a lesson in balancing wear against fuel use, I should have got more power out of my engine. Has anyone been able to manage rear tyre wear on an MR or RR and if yes, how so?

What I can definitely say, is that the 1976 season is going to have a very competitive field.
I’ve definitely learnt a lot from this event.

Just use narrower tyres on the front, which means you can run even camber front to rear. And make it low, so you’ll have low wear at both axles and at about the same rate.

What tyres are you all using?
I am on semi-slicks, kind of regretting the “high” wear.

Check out the trump cards, information is there.

Is there a chance you add something to brobot’s gui so we can see the compound person is using? I’m thinking in the same way you added little turbos.

I will think of something, yes.

Just do it like Formula 1 and paint them differently.

Hm no. We already have differently coloured tyres for dry/inter/wets.

Even so it could still be done like F1… It will however take some time for non F1 people to get used to.

Exactly. I was just going to post. It’s just more colours.

(Purple slicks, obviously not in game)
Red semi-slicks
Yellow sports
White meds
Orange hards
Blue wets
Green inters

I support this idea. It works well in f1, should work well in the BRC, and using the same colour codes will make us f1 watches familiarised quickly.

The problem is that the intermediates are not identical for everyone. I.e. the people who chose medium tyres will have harder intermediates than those on sports or semislicks. I wanted to overhaul the timing screen anyway, removing sector times during the race, so there will be space for showing a simple S for semislicks, P for sports, M for medium, H for hard and X or O for offroad.

That’s silly.

An intermediate is a tyre made for specific weather conditions and should not be related to your main tyre choice.

I think by not defining such a standard tyre you’re missing an opportunity for upsets between the racers. What you are doing is to ensure fast cars will always be quicker only thanks to the tyres no matter the strategy.

Rain and wet/inters in races create a situation that allows better drivers (perhaps track tameness:sport ratio in this case) to dominate cars that are faster in normal conditions because the highly tuned setups are suddenly worthless.

Actually the harder compounds lose less grip in rainy conditions than the soft ones. So the balance shifts more towards the “slower” compounds already. In addition to that, they don’t wear as fast. It is definitely possible that a car on sports compound intermediates becomes faster than a car on the “semi slicks intermediates”. And I hope the weather progression in the upcoming race will show that.

Standard tyres are not really possible because I would need to redo all the initial calculations such as brake distance, optimum speed profile, cornering, even tracktameness and tracksportiness, and much more. It would require a totally different approach to the whole BRC concept. Technically not feasible and it would only cause even more compatibility issues with newer Automation updates.

Additionally, the faster, high powered cars will suffer a lot more during rain because they are physically unable to get the power down on the road.

Yeah I think we should leave this as is. Although I kinda see the point in showing what tyres people are using, as we can’t swap mid race or even between races I think there’s no point. Cars won’t change their performance because of it race to race. It’s a fixed part of the cars performance, just like every other part. This is not the same in F1.

Further more, you can already see what tyres cars have, on the trump cards. It’s no harder than checking which cars are running particular engine layouts and I would argue that is just as important if not more so when looking at performances.

If, and it’s a BIG if, the sports tyres are competitive, it will show up. (But I doubt it to be honest).

…why?

I mean, as Absurdist said, we’re not changing tyre compound mid-race. People are going to be using the same tyres all season. Sector times, on the other hand, will be varying frequently, and looking at sector times during the race can be very useful. I was using sector times to help calculate pit entry/exit time for BRC 1966.
