Brickfields Motors Co

Hey guys! I’m back to the forum after being away for a couple of months or so. I was originally thinking to continue my Shelton Automotives thread but i didn’t because Shelton Automotive is just a mess to me anyways lmao. So i decided to make a new car company with a fresh start!

After Malaysia Federation of Malaya declared their independence from the British in August 31st 1957, their first Prime Minister which is Tunku Abdul Rahman planned to make Federation of Malaya their first car company to improve or recovering their economy from previous event like Japanese invasion and providing jobs to the citizens of Federation of Malaya.

In August 31st 1959, Tunku Abdul Rahman announced Federation of Malaya’s first car company called Brickfields Motors Co. at Merdeka Square which named after a place named Brickfields in Selangor.

Their first factory will be located in Kuala Lumpur as Prime Minister stated in the speech during the announcement and in June 10th 1960, Brickfields Motors Co. rolled their first car off from the production line which is called Brickfields Penang 1000, sharing the same platform as Morris Minor.

Penang 1000 is a basic car that is perfect for the people of Federation of Malaya at that time. The day where Penang 1000 hits the market, it was an instant hit as people praised the car to be fun to drive and can commodate up to 5 people in the car.

It was everywhere in the country as people loved it and local private taxi company used it and local police department used it as it was cheaper alternative rather than buying foreign cars. They can bring up their Penang 1000 to the local car mechanic shop and fix it for a cheap price.

Coming with basic interior that is covered in cloth with optional radio in it, it can fit up to 5 people in the car. As the name of this car suggested, it has 1078cc OHC inline-4 capable producing up to 43hp with 3-speed manual transmission. 2-speed auto was also offered but people prefer 3-speed manual than auto one as it was sluggish than the manual one.

It was a great start for Brickfields Motors Co.

Ah 1965… the year where Singapore was expelled from Malaysia and the year where Brickfields Motor Co. released their second car in the production line after the successful model of Penang 1000 back in 1960.

As years passed by, the economy of Malaysia has been increased due to industry booming after Federation of Malaya combined with Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore (used to be) back in 1962 and people were demanding a faster and safer car as the outdated '60 Brickfields Penang 1000 is a really basic car as it doesn’t have alot of safety features and pretty weak engine according to the company itself.

Translation: Faster and more comfortable.

Introducing Brickfields 2000 Sedan, bigger and faster car for the people of Malaysia. The 2000 Sedan features 2.0L OHC 2-carb Inline-4 producing up to 87hp with 79lb-ft of torque which is better than Penang 1000’s engine. Climbing inside, the car now features standard interior with optional AM radio and optional power steering.

Customers can choose either 4-speed manual transmission or the 2-speed auto transmission, sharing the same transmission from the Penang 1000’s. As it was better than the Brickfields’s previous car, the sale went pretty well but not successful as Penang 1000 as Japanese car brand like Nissan and Toyota dominating the local car market.
