Cant install mods

High new here to the forum. I’m not the most tech savvy so bare with me. I downloaded a couple engines and I cant seem to figure out how to get them in game. I put them in engine folder and nothing happened. So I tried putting them in the import folder and same thing. I also tried putting Bonneville track in imports and nothing. If some one could point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated. I’ve tried searching the forums with no good answers.

You need to drop the zip file into the import folder, don’t extract them. Tracks need to be put into the tracks folder but need to be extracted.

The engine files I downloaded was just a lua file. Nothing else.

Hmm, then put that into \Documents\My Games\Automation\Engines\Variants
and see if you find it in the Engine Manager

That doesn’t seem to do the trick either, I’ve deleted all cars and engines just in case I was over looking over it and nothing is showing up.

Well, thing is that an engine should really be two files: one for the model and one for the variant. Does it work for cars for you?

I haven’t tried any cars yet, but here’s an example of one engine I downloaded. It’s just one file that the person put up.

Is that engine a pre-steam build? It’s dated 15 March, 2015. This is probably the problem. If it isn’t pre-steam standalone build, then it is an incomplete engine and won’t work without the other file. I don’t track build numbers close enough to know which was which, since this is right about the time of the initial steam release. and probably before the stand alone version was updated.

150315 was a very early steam build IIRC.
But even so it had the modern file structure.

So pretty much the steam build dont support it?

Short answer: No, the engine in your example will not run on steam version.

Longer answer: Since the release on steam, there are four files for a car. Two for the car (Model and Trim) and two more for the engine (Family and Variant). The engine you posted as an example of not loading is either pre-steam, or incomplete. The devs can tell you exactly what version of Automation that engine was created in, but I cannot. The steam realease was on or about 12 March, 2015 (I also don’t remember the exact date) and a stand-alone version was updated to the same file system about 2 weeks later (first week of April?). B150315 would have been released on 15 March, 2015, so it could be one of the early steam builds, or a stand-alone update prior to steam. It really isn’t important today, as any version you have should require the two engine files to work, and you have only one.

I will try redo my engine on steam version. But if I can save some works answer me:

If I create a template Family engine and add a same renamed Variants .lua from pre steam version will it work?

If I try coping text editing Variant .lua files from old version?

Older pre steam track still working?

Can I download somewhere older offline pre steam version and note variable to redo on steam version.
