I don’t want to build a Mini with a V16 engine, because it doesn’t seem fair.
Also, is the keypress to access the car designer still in this demo?
Yup, you can only fit an engine in if it actually… fits
And no, the car designer isn’t available in the demo

- Good.
- Damn…

That just adds an additional level of creativity to make the stupidest engine (1.5L 40 valve V8) as small as possible so you can fit it into an econobox.

A 1.5L V8 compared to a 1.5L I4? The V8 would be worse in nearly every way: less power, bigger, heavier, more expensive, less reliable, less efficient.
It would be absurd and therefore cool in a way. And also a noticeably smoother running engine if demanded to rev high.
I take it that crazy engines will be viable in automation in expensive prestige cars from prestige manufacturers. But, in econoboxes? Will it come down to a manufacturer choice like Alfa vs. Toyota? Car vs. Appliance?

There’s a scenario for a V8 motorcycle, I think the game embraces the absurd a bit. “1.5L V8 in an econobox” is a bit of hyperbole, but is more along the lines of things like the Mazda MX3 V6, which had a 1.8L DOHC V6 in it as the top engine. The car is the size of a honda CR-X.
Plus its fun to make absurd bad ideas work. I’ve had pretty good luck with adding overhead cams to the muscle car era in this game. Why? I happen to not like pushrods, and because the game allows me to.
With such an open-ended simulation such as this, going with simply “What will be easiest” will get you toyota corollas. I’m looking to take a more Lancia-like approach, and will try to make the absurd viable.
We certinaly embrace the absurd, if you can manage to fit a 1.5L V8 in a hatchback then go for it! It’ll be expensive, probably unreliable, won’t have much engine bay space, but it’ll sound pretty excellent and if you can manage to sell the damned thing then good luck to you!
Automation is all about taking the role of a car company, and part of that will be trying out crazy car designs and seeing how they go and how they sell
