RALLY HEADLIGHTS
Yes, this might be a “beginners” tip, but yet maybe something not everybody is thinking about, that might be useful…
Not unusual for rally cars with composite headlights is to replace them with cheaper round units, with a plastic surround covering the area where the original headlight was, so, here is a guide how to make them in Automation.
Here we have a fully normal 90s hatchback that is a stalled project of mine, that I deemed good enough for a demonstration.
Step 1 - change the colour of the headlight lens to the body colour of the car.
Step 2 - 2D in this round vent (changing the mesh to transparent might be necessary, which it later appeared to be in this case.) Also, you need it to be on a layer above the headlight in itself.
After some fiddling, I got a decent arrangement with two of them, most often better looking than one.
Step 3, choose this headlight fixture, change the surround colour to transparent, and 3D the headlight into the correct position.
So, ready for rally! Or maybe not yet, but at least the headlights does not look half bad now.
