The long day had worn out not only Mikki, but his family too. Hours of yelling over one another amidst the Christmas celebration does a strain on one’s mental state and physical state, but surely he enjoyed himself being with family, didn’t he?
Oh, how he’d wished that were the case. It was another year of the same old routine of filling oneself up with a meal in front of the same family members with the same problems as always that never seem to go away due to the fact that it is simply just human nature.
After a quick shower, he immediately ran towards his room and flopped down onto the bed and powered his phone back on. A flood of generic greeting messages from family members he barely even talked to flashed on his screen and overwhelmed the phone’s ringer. With a sigh, he flicked away most of them but kept a few that stood out, notably the ones from his closest friends, and one more from a certain yellow-haired interest.
He tapped the notification and what appeared on his screen was something he wasn’t expecting, but was enough to bring back some energy as he huddled down within the warmth of his comforter. It was a picture of Ashley in a Santa dress, short enough to reveal most of her thighs, and revealing most of everything from her armpits up, including the mole on her chest. Combined with the image was a caption that read;
"Merry Christmas! I was trying out different outfits, and I didn't know who else I could've sent it to. I hope it doesn't look too weird.
Mikki was more or less taken aback, never before had she ever sent a message to him like this, particularly an image of her. He was as confused as he was grateful, but not wanting to seem rude, he began composing a message back.
"I think it fits you quite well"
It wasn’t even halfway through and he hesitated on what words to say. His fingers were stuck in place and as much as he wanted to, he couldn’t get the words out, even through a digital medium.
He looked at the image more, it was her sitting on what looked to be her bed, her face partially concealed by her hand and partially cropped out of the image.
“It’s…”
"I think you look quite cute in it"
Almost unconsciously, he had sent the message, and a few heartbeats later he had finally realized what he had sent and his face flushed a deep red.
“Wait, what the fuck?!”
He attempted to delete the message, but it was too late now, the read receipt flashed from “Sent” to “Read” and Ashley had begun typing. His heart constantly thudded through his chest as he awaited what she would say in response. Would she immediately guess? Would she just take it as a compliment? He would find out once she finished typing.
"Thank you! I was kind of nervous trying it on. I wasn't sure what the others would think, but I appreciate that you think it's nice!"
Mikki had calmed down a bit after he received the message, but still he was paranoid, and his paranoia only grew as he saw her typing yet again.
"by the way, you got your license last year, right? do you have a car yet?"
He stared at the message for a bit, but just answered honestly.
"im planning on buying my own one hopefully before christmas break is over"
"That's cool! being able to buy your own car and all"
"thanks, hard work pays off i guess haha"
"what car are you getting?"
Once again, he found himself pausing yet again, before a snap back into reality as he recieved a message from Allan that read;
"Oi tangkad, meri chrysler, etong linggo pagpunta mo dito tulungan kita, mas madali hanapin in-person. geh goodnight pagod na ako"
With that, Mikki continued typing his message.
"I'm not quite sure yet, but you'll see!"
The read receipt arrived, but there Ashley wasn’t typing back. Mikki began to grow anxious as seconds continued to pass by without any update, until she did begin typing, for a while. The paranoia flung throughout his head; Did she think I was accidentally inviting her to a drive? Surely, not. Surely she thought I was just saying about how I was going to eventually drive it to school, right? It’s not like I wanted to invite her immediately. I wasn’t even planning that just yet!
But then, it seemed as though the world stopped around him when she finally replied back.
"so"
"would you be able to buy the car before New Years?"
"and do you think you can take me out for a drive?"
"I'd love to see it"
"the car i mean lol"
